I've never heard of it, but a sweet reader who is also a girl describes it to me this way this morning:
The person in front of you buys your coffee. What do you do? Well I feel guilty and I buy the person's order behind me. It then turns into a chain. The longest chain has been 33 cars (last time I asked). I stopped buying for the car behind me for a little bit, but I felt too guilty. I feel really bad for the person in front of me because most of the time I have 3 drinks. The person behind me was only $4 so I saved $5 this morning . . . .
When did this start?

If the person in front of you buys your coffee, my recommendation is to tip the drive-thru server the amount of your order. You are not likely to run into the person in front of you or the person behind you again, but you run into the drive-thru guy every day.
It's been going on for sometime now. The Messenger even did an article about it in December of 2007. The article is actually hanging up in the Starbucks in Decatur.

But that's not the point, 11:42. What makes it special is that you are doing a random act of kindness to a stranger, there's nothing in it for you, not even a thank you.
Tip the guy if you want, that's nice too. THat's just not the same idea as the pay-it-forward to someone you've never met and never will meet.
I go to Starbucks all the time and noone has ever gotten mine. I just tip the guy or girl in the window.
The guy in the photo looks like a real choochbag with his shoes off like that. Probably writing poetry in his journal or some sh*t like that.
I've been in two chains in Decatur, I was within a buck either way.
Shucks I went to the Chinese Restaurant in Decatur ( one hun lo ) and went to pay and they said someone else had picked up the tab;
true story
Somebody tell that guy to get a haircut!
and a job
and some shoes
Good grief, I sound like my dad.
I think pay it forwards...also means the server :) If your buying a drink a starbucks you have a couple extra bucks to pay it forward. Do something for someone :) 12:02 Have you ever paid for the person behind you? Karma.....give it a try- if nothing else you feel good for doing good :) drink up people
meet me at the Club...you will not want my Tab...
If the jack-ass in front of me buys my drink for me, forcing me to feel obligated to conduct some similar act of charity, I'll leave a few dollars in the tip jar and never go to Starbucks again.
Freaking give your money to charity people. If they're in Starbucks, they don't NEED your help.
soooo--- cosmopolitan !!!!
I AGREE with 12:50. That's just ridiculous. I will however let someone pick of my tab at the Country Club after a long day of swinging and chugging!!
Nobody ever buys mine either :(
Thats a girl? Her mustache is showing.
hey 149 if you go to club tonight let me know who you are and I will pickup up your tab. you must be trying to start some gossip again.
So your telling me you have never bought drinks for a girl with big boobs before????? LMAO
Redneck way of asking you to pay it forward :)
that guys name is collin campbell, dr. campbells son. he goes to Texas.
McDonald's has a really good premium roast coffee and you can get a large cup for only $1.59. It is sooo much cheaper than Starbucks.
Tueasday I was loading a vanity at Lowes. Not real heavy, but very bulky. I must have resembled the monkey and football thing. I heard a sweet little voice behind me say, "here let me help". This lady came from no where and helped me. Thanks again if you are reading this. The world need more people like you.

5:23, You're welcome.
I was buying a truck at James Wood and the customer ahead of me bought mine, so I bought one for the person behind me.
No wonder it smells like feet and butt around that place.
Collin Campbell - I remember him, sweet kid, and smart, too.
Pay it forward is a rgeat thing, and it doesn't even have to stick with just Starbucks. It's a great concept.
It's a karma thing: if no one has ever bought you a drink at Starbucks, and you're bitter because of (I mean, who could dog such a positive concept anyway but some really bitter person) then you're probably not worthy.
Try it sometime. The gal in front of me last eyar bought mine, and guess what, I went to church with her and thanked her personally. She had no idea it was me. She does it all the time.
No one was behind me, so I'll pay it forward later!
That is not Collin Campbell.. Collin doesnt even had dreadlocks anymore.. but yea he does go to Texas
