Florida lost to Ole Miss, who lost to Wake Forest, who lost to Maryland, who lost to Middle Tennessee State, who lost to Troy, who lost to Southern Miss, and so forth.
In 1984, BYU was voted national champions after going unbeaten, yet not playing a single team that ended up ranked in the top 25. Utah beat 3 teams that ended the season ranked.
Yes, Texas needs to stop crying and start the campaigning for a playoff system.
If you do go into the "who beat who" game, you do have to give Ole Miss some credit. Even though they had all those losses, not only did they beat Florida, but they beat Texas Tech, who beat Texas, who beat OU. How many teams could claim that position, having "beaten" both national championship contenders?
Folks, the only conference whose teams won every bowl game they played was the Pac-10. This year the Big-12 had an impressive season and most teams had great offenses. But when it came to crunch time - they crapped out. Even Texas was seconds from losing to an Ohio State team that didn't know how to pass. The bowls exposed the Big-12. We needed the Utah, USC, Florida and Texas playoff.
