Wise County Commissioners News Bulletin from yesterdays meeting:
"We are poised to apologize for Slavery" as soon as we figure out what poised means?
Also are those public boat ramps in Newark still open for "Whites Only". They still have residents that claim it is in their property deed. When questioned about this .. the commissioners said that they struck down the "Whites Only" portion.
Isn't that kind of like taking down the sign above the water fountains? Psst .... It is still a sign of racism WC.

I think nearly universally when someone says "slave" everyone thinks of the US and our Civil War. I havn't been able to get my head around that one as:
Slavery was abolished in Englands Territories only 30 years before the US.
It was only outlawed in China in 1910. Though in practice there are are hundreds of thousands of people living in slavery there.
In Mauritania slavery is practiced more or less openly with over 800,000 slaves.
In Burma 800,000 people are held as forced laborers with no rights and no way out of their situation until they die,escape or are bought out= slaves.
Niger-Nearly a million slaves.
Thailand-Tens of thousands of sex and domestic worker slaves.
China-slavery still very wide spread at brick plants and mines away from cities-especially in remote north.

I am wondering if I can get Spain to appologize for their actions in 1492. Not for the actions of Columbus but for those of Isabella, who in that year gave my ancestors the choices of converting to Christianity, leaving the country, or dying. I also want all the illegal aliens from Mexico to appologize for the actions of their ancestors in Spain. This is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. Throughout the history of man people have been wronged. But none of us, nor our government, are responsible for what our ancestors did.
Is an Egyptian also an African American? Why not? Egypt is in Africa...so....What about other races, including whites, that were born in Africa yet became Americans? What about blacks that were born in, say, England yet are now Americans? Why are they not English-Americans?

9:54 Yes you certainly must be corrected about why the civil war was fought. The Civil War was fought over states rights, not to free the slaves. Abraham Lincoln is well documented saying that if he could save the Union without freeing the slaves, he would not free a one. This information is readily available, however you are correct in that most people believe the CW was about slavery, it was not, the southern states wanted to succeed from the union. The reason the north was finally able to win was financing..plain and simple $..There were 10 times more union troops killed than confederate's. However the north had England and Switzerland backing them, while the only ally the south had was France.
714 to say african-americans have never contributed to american society would be a little bit of an understatement..are you forgetting hip-hop, gangster-rap, creation of millions of new jobs in america(police/prison guards/new jail construction, etc. etc.). as for their beloved africa, i'm afraid i can't argue with any of that..it's very sad, but so, so true.....
