I Understand This But Can Never Seem To Apply It

We are distracted by what was, and consumed by what's next. Gloomy feelings are always related to the past or future, while the freedom to be exists only in the here and now. The true glory of our lives is being played out at this very moment and not in what was or what will be.

The last sentence of your blog post is so very correct! Changes WILL occur in everyone's lives, and to try to cling to what "was" is a losing battle. Think of your life as a book. There are many chapters...some already written and some yet to be written. A good attitude to have when significant change occurs is to remember, "that was a great chapter in my life, but now another chapter begins and I must see where it leads me and what characters might be introduced to my story." One's own attitude makes all the difference in the world. We are all human and so very vunerable. We must choose to live the chapter we are "in" and remember that the already written chapters cannot be changed....they will ALWAYS be a part of us and no one can take that away. Embrace the past but open your arms wide to the future!

You never cease to amaze. From "Hey, Nows" to pop culture to politics to deep thoughts like this one. Preach on, brother.

Anthony de Mello explores how to become mindful and live in the moment. Check out his book "Awareness." Some deep shit there, but it makes you stop and think. Peace.

Such feelings are familiar to every person at one time or another in life, and usually has to do with thinking somebody else needs to change rather than us.

The power of the Serenity Prayer helps me deal with the reality of change......it just seems to fit almost every situation of life.

"The Importance of Now" by Eckhart Tolle is really good & if you stick with it, even read it a 2nd or 3rd time, it changes your world in a very good way. It changed the way I see everything and I am so much more at peace, no matter what happens during my day.

Also he wrote "The New Earth".

It says "Don't take life too seriously, it's not permanent".

Maybe if you lived life instead of just observing it, you'd be happier.

You concentrate on things that stimulate below your waist more than above too.

You pick -- and exist within -- your own mindset.
