Who is this guy?

Anonymous said...

Bernie, what the hell are you doing?? Go back to Newark!

RPM said...

I wonder if he applied at WalMart, IGA or Decatur Donuts?

He is an old man w/mental issues who is being cared for by his niece - however he chooses to do this. A kind word is all that is needed.

this guy needs to go to Bowie, or Saginaw. He's just about wore out his welcome in Decatur.

i seen him at ac's beer barn buying miller light with a hooker and ralph hardy in the back seat.

Anonymous said...

This guy makes a lot of money doing what he does.

He has been known to decline yard work.

Wal-mart is hiring.

Do you still have the picture taken in the metroplex to compare and see if this is the same guy? If so please post.

Let's just say he considers this his job!. Numerous people have attempted to help to no avail. You can tell by the dress finances are not the problem.

According to a recent survey, 42% of the population has given money to panhandlers in the past year and the average person gives $1.84 each time he or she is approached by a panhandler, for a total of about $25 a year. This adds up to an awful lot of money - a total of over $4.6 million, divided among about a thousand panhandlers. That’s an average of about $50,000 per active panhandler per year, with confidential interviews with panhandlers indicating that they make between $35,000 and $100,000 tax free per year and view panhandling as the equivalent of a job or a profession. Some even have homes and support families on their panhandling income.

Think he's got second thoughts about voting for Bush and Perry?

6:20 what is sad is the amount of ppl that have fell for this guy's little feel sorry for me parade...I have seen him at probably 15 different places and they are not limited to Decatur and Wise County area. He panhandles in the metroplex too. And no I seriously doubt he has actually applied anywhere. Why would you go to work for minimum wage somewhere when he probably makes a damn good living at other hard working peoples expense? The first time I saw him I had the exact same "aww how sad" reaction. After seeing him at a dozen places, however, I pretty much lost all sympathy. My parents taught me to work hard for what I want and this guy stands at the side of the road with a damn sign and probably makes more than I do. The decatur police need to provide him with a job mowing the courthouse lawn with the word 'trustee' on his back. Maybe this way all the hard working people who have given him money will have a legit reason to feel sorry for him. He is a foul excuse for a human and he disgusts me! GOSH!!!

Tax-free money. What a deal. He must be doing good in Decatur because he keeps coming back. What would Jesus Do?

Anonymous said...

Wow, if 9:20PM is correct, a lot of you posters are plain and simple assholes, and probably republicans to boot.

Jesus wept.

My friend stopped and visited w/him one day and in the process got his number - which was auctually his nieces number. She got the info from her. The niece has tried to stop him but he insists on continuing. He elderly and has mental issues (to what extent I am not sure.)

Give money if you wish but really - his needs are being met. I don't even think he is doing it for the panhandling - I think he really wants a job but doesn't know how to get one (and probably wouldn't/couldn't keep it if he got one.)

He is one I give my pity - not my anger to.

I promise you there isn't a malacious bone in his body!!!!
The kind of help he needs would probbly be a case of the medicine is more inhumane than the disease.

9:30p.m. I don't know where you got you information but he lives with his wife. She did work at Wal-Mart in Saginaw where they ran his a** off and told him not to come back. His son and daughter-in law live in Newark. He does not have mental issues. He is a pain in the a** looking for a free ride.

How about a little empathy. We can sit here and bash him all day long, but have you walked in his shoes? Before passing judgement on others, get informed of the real situation. Then, leave judgement up to God and try to show some empathy. We truly do not know his situation.

He used to be a door to door Banjo salesman until that unfortunate G String incident.

I am more careful about handing out money to strangers these days. Ten years or so ago, I was taking a tech class in Arlington. As I pulled into the parking lot, a man came up to me with a plastic gallon gas can in his hand. He told me he was trying to get to work, and his car was block away, and he had ran out of gas, had no money, and could I give him some money to buy gas. I gave him a
buck (at that time, you could almost get a gallon of gas for a buck, of course, gas was a lot higher in Europe) and he was happy and on his way. Two or three hours later, I came out and there the same guy was with his gas can, hitting up another person. Felt like Yosimite Same in the Bug's cartoon as a "Sucker on a stick" visualized.

7:02, you're correct. He lives next door to his son David and his daughter-in-law Debbie.

His wife did work at Wal-mart. Of course, this was before he sold all her shoes to a local preacher. Don't ask.

I don't know where people get their information. I'm not aware he even has a niece.

Anonymous said...

7:41 I can not help but ask. What is up with the shoes????

Anonymous said...

A lady I work with knows him and she said that he doesn't need money, he is living off a very good pension and his wife works at Walmart in Saginaw. He just does this because he has nothing better to do. He really doesn't want or need a job.

Anonymous said...

He used to sell ladies shoes until that unfortunate toe sucking incident.

The story of my life

Newark Drunk said...

He set up a little table out in front of his house and sold all of his wifes possessions.

Heres a newsflash for you guys: He spends ALL the he gets on LOTTERY tickets. I saw him gamble away his ENTIRE SS check ($800) one night at the Eagle! Don't give this man a PENNY!!!!!!!

No wonder America is in such shape as it is. We have lost our compassion for people and we certainly have lost our tolerance of other people. I have stopped and talked to this man, it is obvious he has mental problems. But from reading some of the comments, I would rather be a friend to this man, than some of the narrow minded pig headed people who have made comments. So what if he wants to do that, do you have to be disgusted or ashamed of him. It is America, we do have the freedom to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If this makes him happy then leave him alone.

Seems like the thing to do would be either stop and visit with the guy and give him a couple of bucks or ignore him. What about this situation is worth getting so worked up over?

Newark Drunk said...

I would have more "compassion" for this "man" if he had a legitimate reason for begging. But no, he's simply supporting an ADDICTION! And another thing, we're not talking about some quaint, mentally challenged man. This is perhaps the most skillful con in Wise County.

I refuse to show any tolerance towards this parasite, nor do I find his little signs amusing.

Anonymous said...

On December 21 2012 we'll all be begging.

Anonymous said...

I'm begging right now! This is seriously sad, I barely can afford to put gas in my car to make it to work each week with my paycheck... GOD help us all if we don't get some relief from the fuel and our deteriorating economy.

Anonymous said...

"He set up a little table out in front of his house and sold all of his wifes possessions"
God bless him! He's my hero already.

Speedoman,Ralph Hardy and Signman a Wise County trifecta.

Why isn't panhandling against the law in Decatur city limits? It really should be! If it is, then why isn't this man arrested and removed from our streets?
