Wise County Wins Immunity Challenge

The newpapers and the Internets have been telling me for months about a real estate crisis with sinking values. For Wise County, uh, not so much.

At least from a property tax point of view.

Edit: Kinda funny. Just saw the graphic below on the Yahoo Finance page.

SO SAD, our county screws us every chance they get. And they would be located in DECATUR people NOT Bridgeport. Decatur sucks!!!!

That is because the appraisal district wouldn't know what to do if they didn't raise the appraisal values. Personally, if they don't send a person out to inspect the property every year, the value shouldn't be raised.

Maybe it is because the are apprasing property without even seeing it. I just found out I my property has been appraised for the last two years in Bport as to having a pool. Guess they just wanted to raise tax appraisal and threw one on there. It also kills me when you buy a house for one price then tax apraisal has it for much more, when you know what the house is worth b/c you just purchased it. Gotta love em!!!

Please. "All real estate is local". Just go try to buy a brick house in Wise County and you will find out that there is no "price drop" in our neck of the woods.

As for the Appriasal District, they are doing their job. No one likes to pay more taxes but everyone likes for the value of their house to go up. You cannot have it both ways. The sales prices from the past year justify the values. You may not like it but Wise County is in an economic boom time. Enjoy it because history shows that the Wise County Oil & Gas booms come and go.

Would you really be happy if the appraised value of our residential housing dropped?? Enjoy the good times while they last.

8:44, it is just the hand of Mickey hand at work. Will he ever be replaced?

8:53, I fought my appraisal and my value dropped $20,000 in one year. I was ecstatic.

Premise: destroyed.

I would LOVE it if my property value was ALOT closer to the price that I paid for it you idiot(8:53).
We built a new house and I know exactly how much we spent and they jacked the value up over $50,000 more. They are really doing there job:(!!!!!!! Youve done a good job convincing yourself 8:53 you must be one of THEM.

Why did the value go down in Bridgeport & Northwest ISDs? And shouldn't those values for the ISD's listed be in the billions, not millions? Just an error I'm sure.

hey mary jane, pay your taxes and then you can gripe...

The said part of all this is that for most WC ISD's the higher values will only mean more money going to the state. The county will continue to keep their kitty filled for commissioner's special projects.

I am a little suspicious that NW value droped but farther out increased. That's a little fishy.

It's ALWAYS "fishy" doings from the Appraisal District! NEVER tax breaks! Here's my question: Wise County has become "rich" with oil tax money. WHERE IS IT? It sure as hell isn't in our roads. Try driving down OAK street in Decatur! Ya need a four wheel drive! It's the worst road in town! AND...WHERE THE HELL IS OUR ANIMAL SHELTER???? The little blind pug that was dumped, then fell through the cattle guard (because it couldn't see)where it dehydrated, starved and suffered from the heat because it had no way of getting out...sure could have used an animal shelter. IF one was in business...maybe the total heartless creep that dumped that lovable dog would have tried to get it adopted instead of dumping it where it had absolutely no chance! I blame that dog's demise not only on that lowlife that dumped it, but also on the fact that our commissioners have DONE NOTHING to get that shelter built! They have certainly had it "in the plans" long enough! I think they should all be jailed for animal cruelty!
WISE COUNTY ELECTED... spend the money to make our streets nice.. ALL of them.........and GET THE ANIMAL SHELTER BUILT TOMORROW!!!!!!

I put that type of thinking "Would you really be happy if the appraised value of our residential housing dropped??" with that of "Gasoline prices have always been high in Europe" in the same catagory. Bull S___t.

WCAD can't raise the funds they want at the current tax rate so they simply increase the appraisal value.

I'm in the same boat with 11:38. I bought a house and it was appraised for 30% more than what I paid and has gone up every year.

I barely survive on my retirement and social security. I'd like to extend my gratitude to George Bush and his thugs for their intervention in the gas crisis. I'd also like to thank Mickey Hand for increasing my taxes by $7,000 and to NWISD for their part. Between the three of them I can't afford to feed my dog Jake. I can't afford to ride my moped to town for groceries and my home, which I own free and clear, may soon get sold because I cannot afford to pay my taxes. I'm about to lose my job because I can't afford to ride my moped there either. The city is after me about mowing my lawn and I haven't eaten in three days. Screw you is all I have left to say. SCREW YOU!

Shouldn't there be a cap on raising appraisals? I mean, really! Good old Mick raised our land value by 131% and the building on it (which has just gotten older and had no improvements) by 42% in one year! That's just robbery! Where the hell is Robin Hood (the legendary one wearing tights) when you need him?
