Oh, My!!!!

The Messenger's Graduation Section came out this morning and, although my team of reporters is still checking it out, it looks like the Bridgeport High School Class of 2008 actually contains a photo of every kid who graduated in 2007.

Heck, there was an accident in Alvord last night and 2 helicopters were called and they didnt have that in update, so the WCM basically doesn't care about anything anymore.

Anonymous said...

how could they no see this? they did a story on the top two students and didn't even see their pictures were not even in the whole class.

golden, just golden.

good job skip. oh wait, he is gone.

One drawback that I see on the comments is that whenever you go to another person's blog it shows up in this little ass screen.

They love to tell us how many awards they have won at the MESS!
I think it is typical of the coverage Bridgeport gets from them.
What a Joke! They must have been to busy trying to get a good wreck picture and had a wreck of their own. The wheels are OFF..."Roy, you better get in here and look at this..."

i would love to be a fly on the wall in the mess today because someone, or some persons', screwed up big time.
the WCM truely is a Mess today because that is bad. how can you not tel that 200 kids are from last year, especially the the top two grads.
holy smokes the wheels have fallen off over there in the last 6 months - ignoring bad wrecks, lack of city government coverage outside of decatur and now this big ol' boo boo.

I haven't lived in Decatur for 20 years but,I can say much hasn't changed apparently. The kids grandmother would still be scooping the Mess. with her quilting buddies and scanner if she wasn't so dead.

The sad truth is that Bridgeport High School sent us the wrong photos and when we sent it to them for proofing they didn't catch it. A huge mistake for us - we're very sorry and will reprint the 2008 graduates in AAW next week.

WCM doesn't care about black people.

hahahahahaha

I thought I had been duped, got a graduation card ( I want a gift ) and I didn't see the kid in the picture...

I'm just sayin

Way to go Bridgeport High School-teaching kids how to be adults and be responsible-whats your excuss??

FIRED!!!

M&M said...

I think there's a conspiracy here. The Bridgeport folks are always whining about how poorly they are covered by the WCM and how it should be called the Decatur paper not Wise. BHS did it on purpose to make WCM look bad.

maybe they didn't have anybody graduate from B'Port this year and had to use last years pics????????
dah

How do you know Roy is just not passing the buck and blamming the school for a WCM mistake. When you screw up take the blame.

shu said...

anon. 11:44, did you graduate from bridgeport?--its excuse NOT excuss. nice try.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the fact that they had all the pictures tells me they were given the wrong ones. Until I hear someone from Bridgeport ISD dispute this, I have to believe Mr. Eaton.
I like the other point better - maybe there were no graduates this year so they had to give the WCM last year's photos.

Anonymous said...

Sounds very unprofessional blaiming the mistake on the school in this blog. Even if this is true take some resposibility as a bussiness man.

Anonymous said...

Well....at least they didn't declare victory.

Double Fake W.

Why is it wrong to tell truth on blog and defend yourself 1:20? It is ok for everyone to assume or accuse a person or their business of something on the blog, but wrong to point out facts? Guessed I missed that blog lesson. Don't you think it has already been addressed with BISD and WCM prior to that post?

rpm said...

Hey, stuff happens. But if it was Decatur that sent the wrong pics I bet the Mess would have caught it immediately.

What award will they win for this one?

Anonymous said...

hey..maybe it was back to the future..who knows

Each school in Wise County whose seniors are pictured was asked for pictures - most were sent on CD, and then each school was emailed a proof link to be able to proof each and every picture and name. When corrections were made, yet another proof link was emailed to the school for yet another proofing. If you don't believe me, call each school and get to the bottom of it yourself. This mistake did not happen at the WC Messenger, and unless they know BHS seniors personally they would have no way of knowing this had happened.

I don't think the Messenger is blaming anyone, but they should also NOT take the blame for something someone else was supposed to, and had the opportunity to check.

PS - I'm not Roy, and I don't work for the Messenger - this is just how the process works. Somebody made a mistake, and it wasn't the Messenger.

PSS- Decatur DID NOT send the wrong pics and took the opportunity to check it twice.

I hate taking the blamm for something I didn't do.

Its the end of the year-NO ONES working at B(Bridgeport)HS!!

You know how impersonal it is when no one knows what kids attend school regularly.

I'd do some firing/hiring!!!!

P.S. Take time to get to know the kids-they are the reason you have a JOB!!

Anonymous said...

Yep, as a staff member at Bridgeport it was unfortunately our fault. We also sent the wrong pictures to the small newspaper here in Bridgeport.

Honest mistake that is being corrected.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if the school hosted a game show called...NAME THAT STUDENT...how many kids could the School Board, Superintendent, and Principals actually name???

I'd pay just to see their faces!!!

Anonymous said...

The correct pictures were sent to The Index.

Anonymous said...

I appreciate the fact the Roy made a comment on the blog to set the story straight -- accidents happen and it will be corrected!

Anonymous said...

Simple solution. Delete all previous years pictures of your system. Then this can't happen. Hopefully the Decatur Messenger will rerun the Bridgeport Seniors, since we were one of the paying sponsors.

Barry, you've hit quite the vein of gold with this post. To get the man himself, Roy, to post an explanation is quite the feather in your cap.

Anonymous said...

um, anon 2:43 -
the WCM is to blame. heck, they featured the top two academic students and even went so far as to do a feature story on both of them and NEITHER of them were in the pictures. That is a red flag right there.
And the WCM not knowing ANYONE graduating? Hmmm, after all the honor rolls they printed all year, the ads bought by parents bragging on their graduating senior and ALL THE SPORTS they cover, I think they would know just a few names.
This is a blame game and WCM is to blame and is just passing the buck.
Hell, did they not even look at their issue last year? It was all the same freakin' kids.
Now I have proof my daughter graduated twice because she was a 2007 senior that, believe me, someone up there knew as much as she was in the paper for for clubs, honors and sports.

fwrecondaddy said...

Okay, so we give the WCM the benefit of the doubt about the pictures.
NOW, if you go to today's WCM on line, the feature story photo shows
"""Cody Campbell of Summerville, Ore., holds on as his bull goes vertical during a ride that would receive 85.5 points.""""
Unfortunately;
1. That isn't Cody Campbell
2.That isn't a bull
3.That is called calf roping
4.That is done at a ...rodeo....

Now.....can WCM please correct that so city folks won't think we country folk don't know the difference between BULL RIDING AND CALF ROPING for Pete's sake?

Anonymous said...

If not the WCM fault then they should not take blame but to say not my fault on here is totally unprofessional in my opinion. There is a proper way to handle it and I just don't think that was it.

*OTFLOLHysterically*

You MAY be on to something!
Sending last year's pictures to WCM and approving last year's pictures, probably, is the BEST scheme BHS could conceive and execute to cover-up the TRUTH.

Wow, some of the grads of 07 are the substitute teachers this year. ONLY in Bridgeport, then again, we hire the uncertified over and over again and wonder why their students do poorly on TAKS. I had hopes that Mr. Bland would move us forward, but those hopes are fading.

"NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND",.... Except the whole damn senior class of a Wise County school!!!! Sheesh!!!

Anonymous said...

5:28 They are not fading they are GONE!! I think we are going to be worse off when he leaves

Bridgeport cares less about what the SUBS do-I know I have been one!! The classes run WILD and NOBODY cares!! All I did was keep them from killing each other.

They didnt even have the decency to show me around the school(LAZY). Definitely NOT worth the pay. I'm off they list!!

Whats the shortest term of a superintendent at BHS?

Lets make a record

Anonymous said...

4:18 - the only proof you have is that you are from Bridgeport, and that by no menas, is proof that you know what goes on at the Messenger - obviously you don't.

Let's say someone from BHS calls you and asks your daughter's birthday. Now they probably have that on file somewhere, but it's be easier to ask you. And let's say that you tell them your son's birthday because you got confused.

So, is that their fult that they printed the wrong birthdate, when they asked you to begin with (who should know in the first place) and you gave them the wrong information? Should they have checked last yer's record's anyway, or should they believe what you tell them, since you're the expert in this case - as was the person who simply made a mistake from BHS?

You really ought to think this one through.

As a former Mess employee, I can tell you that the folks over there are much more into gossip, silly clique games and drinking the suds than producing a top-quality newspaper.I have seen countless cans or bottles suds consumed at the same time the paper was being produced (production and finalizing of each issue happens after hours)! Happy Hour and Paper Production go hand in hand!!

Anonymous said...

I'm guessing the person who did this:

1. Works at the Mess;
2. Subs at BHS;
3. Moonlights at Lifetouch - remember the school that some Lifetouch employee exchanged student's heads, etc?

P.S. Since I was driving from Azle back to Gawd's Country, and drove thru Decatur, I stopped at your WalMart. Geez, is that a skanky store. I would have driven to the one in Bowie or even better, Gainesville, but with the price of gas these days, I did what I thought was the efficient, cost saving thing to do. But dayum, most prices were higher at the Decatur Wally World. The gas station there in the parking lot was way backed up, so I went back south and returned to Allsups, and once again, (actually three times in one day), experienced the stink of Decatur.

Can't y'all do something about it? The second time I smelled it, I asked my passenger if he farted. It smells like shiate, seriously.

m&m - Barry is just lining up another job at the Mess as a feature writer, in case his part of the law firm goes belly up.

And by golly, he CAN write!

Got his education in Bridgeport. That's why!

Mess vs. Index - no brainer!

Tomorrow is the First Generation Senior Dinner at BHS...I am betting that less than 10 are in attendance. Any takers?
Let's have the I'm not certified to teach moving party....maybe a job fair for the ones we need to get rid of would be a good idea.

RE: the photo of Cody Campbell.

I apologize to the readers of WCMessenger.com for running the wrong photo on our homepage. Apparently we ran a photo of Trevor Brazile some time ago with the same caption ("Whoa"), which is where the mix up happened in our online database. My apologies to all of our readers; it has now been corrected.

Everyone who hasn't made a mistake, please make a comment. Does it matter who made the error? BHS or the WCM? Both apologize, both make amends. Let's see ... isn't that the Christian way to apologize and accept the apology? Apparently, it doesn't hold true in Wise County.

So here's my complaint to put in with every body elses - In today's issue they featured the valedictorians, salutatorians and All-Wise Academic team. I wish they had explained how you make the All-Wise Academic team (because it is impressive), what they get for it (they used to get a scholarship), and have a picture with the 15 members from around the county together (in the past it was an interesting, creative picture). Today's issue just mentioned the people who made the team & nothing else. I believe since Skip moved that a lot of the traditions and local color have either not been reported or incorrectly reported.

Did anyone see that story about Ashley Davidson, who the article said was the daughter of Jay & Marla Davidson. One thing wrong - the article was about another Ashley Davidson, as was the picture. Did they admit to the mistake? No. They just ran the article again (today) and changed who the parents were. I thought newspapers were suppose to print corrections, not just act like a mistake never happened.

But I do side with the crew on here that fault the good people at BHS for that huge mistake today. What else can the person at the Messenger do but print what the school sends them, then ask if the school if they have spelled the names right, etc. You would obviously never expect the school to not recognize their own students, would you?

Anonymous said...

Amen 9:16! Well said. I mean, these are people we're talking about - and people make mistakes - we all do.

Anonymous said...

I agree about the all-wise team in that some Wise Countians need the background, but I LOVE how they feature every kid - what an honor and well deserved recognition to all.

Anonymous said...

Todd, I say, send Mark and Roy a pack'in, and you and Joe take over!!>>>>>>>> Might think about puttin' Barry on a retainer though!!!

Anonymous said...

wow everybody lets whine about a mistake that is being corrected. if you have never made a mistake before then leave a comment

Anonymous said...

lay off, the guy in charge of all the yearbook/journalism stuff at BHS had just been released from the hospital when it was time to send the pictures in...he was a little overwhelmed when he got back, just like anyone else on here would have been after being away from the office for a week or two

The Messenger is a great small town paper; they win awards because they deserve it. They aren't perfect, but who is?

And hey, even this little discussion is going on because people do pay attention to the Mess...........and it's good for business.

Anonymous said...

You're right...they Could be the Gazette

Anonymous said...

im convinced that the messenger is the only one entering in these contests that they win so many awards for. each week i find atleast 5 or 6 errors...

Is it so wrong to want to play Banjo Naked?

The Mess really isn't that bad of a paper. Drive through a comparable small town and pick up one of their papers and compare before you pass judgements.
