Random Political Thought
Everyone knows that Greg Lowery is going run for District Attorney. But because of some goofy law, he couldn't file nor announce his candidacy before 1.1.08 if he wanted to keep his current gig as County Attorney for the rest of his term.
But this is a little bit of a logistic nightmare. Since the DA's position is a state position, he has to file his application to appear on the ballot in Austin and today is the last day. Was Fed Ex open yesterday? Does he have to drive or fly down there?
Edit: I'm sure Greg made it, but we'll be able to find out here.
Edit #2: I have no idea who Clint Phillips is. And I've not heard anything about another candidate. And despite two of the comments, he didn't file.
And in other election news, the guy that former Bridgeport resident Allen Vaught beat out for state rep in Dallas is running to get his old job back. And he refers to Allen as "an asbestos trial lawyer who has the political backing from Texas’ trial lawyer campaign machine."

I hope the State Police have Interstate 35 shut down.
Ahh ... I'm just Kidding.
Good Luck to Gerald Hartley our next County D.A.
Is that the same dude that can't drive a 4-wheeler???
Anyone that would even mention that they worked under worthless Todd Durden should not be elected to dog catcher!
The 4 wheeler guys name is Haley not Hartley. I will vote for the Dem (Hartley) this year for the first time in a long time.
He's got until 5PM today, I believe. Is he taking a day of vacation?
That's the nicest thing I've heard a lawyer called all year.
Sounds simple to me.
You mail it Fed-Ex on Monday knowing it won't get delivered until today.
Gerald Hartley has lots of experience and will make this a good horserace. Watch out Lowery, you will have a fight on your hands!
384 more days and G.W. is gone from office ;)
To mark this day please let me quote him ...
"I believe we are called to do the hard work to make our communities and quality of life a better place" ~ Collinsville, Illinois January 2005
Both Lowery and Hartley best watch out! Word on the street is that Clint Phillips has filed for DA. Wise county has'nt seen the likes of Phillips with his experience, intellect and aggressiveness.
Who is Clint Phillips?
5:20
That would be Wade's second cousin on his Daddy's side, twice removed.
Clint would be the son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillips.
Who is John Galt?
5:20
You playing Jeopardy?
Do they force you to give a blood sample?
"I am not going to have some reporters pawing through our papers. We are the President." (Hillary Clinton commenting on the release of subpoenaed documents)
I believe Clint grew up in Keller and practiced law in Houston for many years. He moved to Wise county a few years ago while maintaining law offices in both Decatur and Houston until recently. I think he's practicing exclusively out of Decatur now. He's definitely sharper and more aggressive than the other choices.
Commissioners for Precincts 1 & 2 have drawn Democratic opponents and the D.A's office.
Things are beginning to look up for Wise County.
John Galt is a radio voice over guy from long ago and possibly a Banjo picker too.
Dumpsite-Pct.2 commissioner still has three years left on his term. 1 & 3 are up this time. 2 &4 next time!
Gerald Hartley our next County D.A.
That has a nice ring to it!
Kinda like the ring you hear when you have your head inside an empty bucket and someone hits it real hard with a hammer.
Looks like Phillips didn't make the cut. He's not listed.
9:49 Just because the Mess failed to list Phillips because they failed to check with the secretary of state does'nt mean he did'nt make the cut. He did make the cut and he will make it a race.
Phillips indeed filed as an independent for the DA election for the 271st judicial district. You can go to the Texas Secretary of State website and look under the elections link. The Mess just missed it -----AGAIN!
