A Genuine Award

Ok, I give up. Who is Bert Ford and why is an award named after him?

And would it be inappropriate to go hit Sixth Street after the award ceremony?

This is hardly an award. No one other than bleeding-heart MADD folks and other cops take these guys seriously.

They'll put on their tactical assault gear and head straight to sixth street afterwards and walk around like they're bad asses, looking for underage drinkers. What tools.

actually 12:03, I think the defendants they arrested recently for selling alcohol to minors might take them seriously.

Bert Ford was the the first vehicular homicide victim in Texas. He was killed by a car of his namesake.

Bert Ford was the administrator of TABC between 1936 and 1947. During his tenure, he emphasized the importance of TABC employees maintaining a high level of cooperation with local law enforcement agencies. The Bert Ford Commendation is an opportunity for the TABC to recognize a sheriff who has demonstrated, through his or her resources and personal cooperation, the kind of working relationship encouraged by the former TABC administrator.

Congratulations Sheriff Walker for well representing Wise County. Your efforts are GREATLY appreciated by MANY people in Wise County.

Bert Ford was from the famous duo "Bert and Ernie". The two Muppets are on the long-running PBS television show Sesame Street. The two appear together in numerous skits, forming a comic duo that is one of the centerpieces of the program. The first "Bert Ford Award" went to Sheriff Andy Taylor for his historic crime fighting duo with Barney Fife. This is a great award indeed and we should all be proud of our great super cops.

i guess we can look for the award ceremony to be on channel 4, since he seems to be rubbing elbows, or something with that anchor there.

I started to copy and paste the same crap, mzcreep, but I knew it would break your heart if someone else did it other than yourself, so I just waited for you to do it, so you could make some newcomers to this blog marvel at your supposed knowledge. You should give credit where credit is due though - you know, cite your sources for your plagiarisms.

And the driver of said Ford vehicle was a drunken sheriff. Betcha didn't know that, did ya, 12:30PM?

Dont blame me, I voted for "Ruff" Rex!! The election was rigged!!

12:17, if they actually took it serious Sheriff Walker would not have personally approved a store that was busted twice selling to minors to open a new location in Bridgeport. It's all about the $$$.

He should get the Boss Hogg Award.

actually.......I think Bert Ford was the real name of Batman's sidekick Robin. This award is presented to TABC's biggest helper or sidekick each year.

12:11 there's a curfew for kids on sixth street. The sheriff will have to leave at 10pm.

OOPS, wrong timing.

Burt Ward played Robin.

Bert Ford had a big family though...Glenn Ford, Jerry Ford, Bill Utter Ford and a Wise county favorite...Cantiff Ford.

to 12:17, last i checked the sheriff has nothing to do with new business's opening up and especially in the city of bridge port that would be done by the city council. and the voters who voted to sale alcohol.

Anon: 5:53 -- the "wonderful" city council in Bridgeport are the ones who decide who can or can not put in stores/bars/clubs/etc.. in Bridgeport.

As stated by mzchief -- once again -- Congratulations Sheriff Walker for well representing Wise County. Your efforts are GREATLY appreciated by MANY people in Wise County!

or was it "king" karl klement ford?

6:44, last time you checked must have been long, long ago (or you don't know what you're talking about). All alcohol licenses must be approved by the County Sheriff. If you were busted twice in a very short time for selling to minors of course you should be allowed to open a new place (right down the street from the high school).
