From the Update

MORE TROUBLE - Animal cruelty charges have been filed against former Decatur animal control officer Sherri Jo Berend. Wise County animal control officers, responding to a citizen’s complaint, found close to 40 dogs living on Berend’s property. Officers said that violates an agreement made with the Wise County Attorney’s office last summer following an earlier raid where 247 dogs were taken to SPCA animal shelters and later put up for adoption.

Uh, we do have some animal chaos going on in the county right now.

it would be interesting to track the fate of those first 247 dogs before we send 40 more after them

How dumb can a person be? 2 times for the same thing

I've known Sherri Jo for years, and she is a loving, caring, wonderful person. She has a weakness for all animals and especially for dogs. She cares so much for those animals and she quickly become overwhelmed by her desire to care for them. I think it’s similar to the way an alcoholic is tempted by a drink, or an anorexic person is tempted by the desire to be skinny, etc. She needs help. I feel for her.

Speaking of dogs, I heard Golden Wok in Decatur was changing its name to Golden Retriever.

I told y'all she was crazy with a capital K when this first happened, while everybody else was falling over themselves defending her. Told you so.

No hard feelings though, I look forward to the next shirtless support demonstration at the courthouse so I can laugh at the pictures.

Maybe someone should call PETA on this lunatic.

How come all the recent postings have dog themes? You may need to change the name of the blog to Liberally Lean from the Land of Puppies.

She is a nut case that should be put in a cage and treated the same way she treated her dogs. Wanting to help them - give me a break. She got slapped on the wrist the first time, now maybe the authorities will have the guts to give her something that will deter her from continuing this behavior. PROSECUTE AND PUNISH HER - SHE'S HAD HER CHANCE>

10:07 wake up. HOw could you think she cared about those animals? Did you ever drop by and visit her to see how she had them stacked in cages, suffering and in a stinking pit? I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. WAKE UP, WAKE UP, WAKE UP! I think her problems go a little deeper than you think.

She has always had that BIG heart, we may need a foundation to establish the Wise County Animal Shelter. You think critters get in your trash now, wait until Monday morning without County Animal Control. You dump your cat or dog close to Lipsey Addition Monday, U may drive away without a vital body limp!!!!!

I find it interesting that you all jump all over Sherry Berend, yet NONE of you have written letters to the editor...nor have you voiced stern concern about the condition of our Wise County Animal Shelter to our commissioners! The deplorable conditon of our "rat hole" shelter has been plastered all over the news for the last year.... yet NOTHING substantial has come from the citizens here in order to help build a new facility. Get off Sherry's case.......and look in the mirror. Without a proper, humane shelter here......we are ALL guilty of animal neglect and cruelty!
