From the DMN:
Vinson & Elkins LLP, which has its largest offices in Dallas and Houston, said Wednesday it's raising its first-year annual salary to $160,000 and second-year salary to $170,000, up from $135,000 and $145,000. Industry experts say Vinson & Elkins is the first major Texas firm to match the salary that New York firms bumped first-year lawyers up to in January.
And later in the story:
The top salaries apply to only the elite law firms. Entry-level lawyers in Texas earn about $58,439 a year, according to the Texas Workforce Commission . . . .

So Barry, when you go join one of those "elite" law firms, are you still gonna blog for us??
OVERPAID...OVERPAID...OVERPAID...
"Elite" numbers are very deceiving. Truth is there are plenty of lawyers who have been practicing 20 years who don't make that kind of money.
And with the number of hours those poor bastards are going to work for the next ten years, it's gonna average out to about eight bucks per hour ... I wouldn't be one of them for triple that money.
Better lawyers earn better money. Sooooo...what's the problem Bu-Bear?
You are such a pussy, Barry.
Maybe these hand picked lawyers have the best credentials and the firm is willing to pay big bucks to get them.
Bet they expect the folks to marry the job too.
Nothing is without a price.
Hey glee, I've already figger'd out if I can sell somebody something for five bucks every so often, I'll be ok as the capitalistic world goes. I would barf at the attempt to be one of them.
We have associates from Vinson & Elkins working for us -- they're worth it. Good people.
