I just saw an ad on Channel 4 for Lasik surgery. Nothing new there. But the ad said it was offering a discount (from Dr. Boothe) of $1,200. (Sheesh, if that's the discount, the procedure must be pricey.)
Which gives rise to my question for my faithful readership: How much does it cost?

Five years ago in Ft. Worth LASIK cost $750.00 per eye. The key to the Dr. being GREAT is the MORE procedures he has done using the SAME laser the more familiar he becomes with the laser.
Just a wee bit of trivia...The microsurgical instrument that made LASIK possible and is used in LASIK surgery was invented and developed in COLUMBIA by a COLUMBIAN doctor.
Not sure where mzchief got her eyes done at but my wife had her eyes done two years ago for $3,600. She had it done in Grapevine. It was not the cheapest but there are something’s that it is probably not best to have done by the cheapest guy.
Tylock Eye Center in Irving wanted $3500 to zap my astigmatism in both eyes. I went to Optical Clinic and got 2 pair of glasses for $99.
I thought it was invented and developed in LASIKIA by a LASIKIAN doctor.
Dr. Brian Ranelle 5 years ago: $2000.
Dr. Brian Ranelle preformed the procedure in Aug. 2002. He is one of the BEST Ophthalmologist in North Central Texas. PERHAPS he gave us a discount because we have known and skied with him and his family, FOREVER.
Incidentally, his brother Bob is an AWESOME Orthopedist who can scope a knee in FLASH.
*;)
Of course, we can count on mzchief to know alllll the details and then be great friends with the guy too. jeez
Had it done in 1998 and it was $800.00 per eye.
8:02 That pee green color is not becoming on you.
mzchief, the country is named COLOMBIA. I'd expect you to know that since you probably jog down there and back on weekends, before you perform charity brain surgery and then go work on the space shuttle. You probably play croquet with El Presidente de Colombia, too, no doubt. And didn't your family discover coffee beans?
I paid $3200 recently to have my eyes fixed by Dr. Boothe. The price is based on a sliding scale with the smallest correction being the minimum price and the most advertised. Then there is a broad range where most people fit into and then it just gets higher from there.
I would pay twice as much if I ever needed it again. It is life changing in my opinion.
I had Dr. Boothe do my surgery and paid $3500 and it is life changing for all of those, like me, that have worn glasses most of your life. I had one corrected after a year, because you have two years to get to 20/20 for that total price. LOVE IT!!!! Reading at 20/20 now and happy! I wish it had done it sooner, but my husband bought it for my 45th birthday!
Wow...this is almost as expensive as my microsurgical vasectomy reversal!
txsharon, you pee green? Been eating lots of celery have we?
Dr. Boothe fixed me up about 5 years ago for around $4000. I couldn't see past about 6 inches in front of my face. I also used to get terrible eye infections from those damn contacts. I can honestly say, that $4000 is the best money I ever spent. Dr. Boothe is good at his job, but that man has zero personality. I think he eats as many valiums as he gives out to patients on surgery day. But he's got a steady hand!
I had LASIK's done...but it was a custom job.
Now every lady I look at appears to be a top heavy brunette standing in front of the fountain at Bellagio in Vegas.
You should get a refund if Txsheehan looks like the woman in front of Bellagio.
Just like my boobies, I'm not letting any doctor f with my eyes. I'll just live with what I was born with.

No problem....
You look like a top heavy brunette standing in front of the fountain at Bellagio in Vegas to me.
After reading about all of the money spent around here for lasik, I'm glad I had mine done in Monterrey, Mexico. I had the procedure done 2 years ago for a total of $500 by a doctor who went to school in Houston. I have had no complaints about the results. "Was blind, but now I see" Thank the lord!!
I know it's worth going to the dentist in Mexico.
$3200 by dr. boothe last november...what if you go to mexico and you have a complication-be prepared to spend about 6 hours for a consult and about 8 hours the day of surgery..you will ge to know the people in your group very well as you move from station to station. Love the results!
3:48PM, why can't you keep my name out of your mouth? I had nothing to do with it -- its called SCIENCE.
I am not willing to take the risk for some doctor screwing up in Mexico to save $2500. All recourse is lost once you cross that border. A lawyer once told a class that I was in "The bill of rights is not engraved on your ass."
The average price at academic medical centers tends to be about $ 2500/- per eye. Before undergoing any refractive procedure, you should carefully weigh the risks and benefits based on your own personal value system, and try to avoid being unduly influenced by cost of the procedure, friends that have had the procedure or doctors encouraging you to do so.
I will refer you to The Eye Digest LASIK article - published by University of Illinois Eye & Ear Infirmary.
