Jacksboro Politics

And who amongst us doesn't love Jacksboro politics?

Well, if you do, you'll appreciate this flyer being put up around town. (PDF format.)

Edit: His response here. (Sheesh, the Jacksboro paper might as well endorse the guy. That "news" article can't possibly be more one sided.)

That is totally awesome. Nice honest politics. What a jerk and I hope he loses by a landslide.

If in fact this guy is lying on a application to run for city council could he face legal charges?

Does this mean that ANYONE, from ANYWHERE, can run for Alderman in Jacksboro, as long as they are simply claiming to live in some building inside the city limits?

Here come the Carpetbaggers! Here come the Carpetbaggers!

What is at 219 S. Main St. as indicated on the form as his mailing address? Google Earth doesn't have a high resolution shot yet, but it looks like a store or other commercial building.

The main street address is probably his place of business.

So, according to this self proclaimed expert, you can live in El Paso and run for office in Jacksboro. Ridiculously dangerous.

They are "Outback Jacks", at least the decent Jack County refugees gave us "Crafton" in Wise County (HEE-HAW HEE-HAW).

Another interesting fact is that the "residence" listed by this candidate is owned by a present member of the Jacksboro City Council.

Since I hear that "hamburger" sales are down in Jacksboro, I'm sure the extra $$ this council member is getting in "rent" will help offset any lost profits!

Also, since the candidate in question listed on his election application that he has resided at 816A W. Thompson for 18 months, it'd be very interesting to see the 18 cancelled checks that he's paid the landowner.

Additionally, to obtain a voter's registration card to vote in city elections, this candidate listed his residence 15 months ago as being 219 S. Main. Now he is stating (on a legal document) that he has resided at 816A W. Thompson for the past 18 months. Can a person permanently reside in more than one location at a time?

One more item. In 2005 when this candidate was claiming 219 S. Main as his residence, he was aslo claiming a Homestead Exemption with the local appraisal district at a third address. This candidate is living proof that human cloning is possible. Because surely this candidate wouldn't attempt to mislead the city voters, would he?

Considering that the election laws clearly state you must reside 6 consective months in the area you intend to run in. It also states that a residence cannot be obtained for the purpose of running for public office, and the intention to reside is also clearly stated. Requirements are more than that of banking, renting and running a business or your mouth. How about that Jacksboro paper endorsing an candidate? Well again election laws again state the time given to one candidate must be equally given to all. Can't wait to read those interviews.
