One of the Famous Bass Brothers of Fort Worth . . .

. . . has died. The Bass brothers are single-handedly, uh, multi-handedly responsible for revitalizing downtown Fort Worth. When I worked there in the early 1990s, my buddies and I nicknamed the private security cops that patrolled downtown "the Basstoppo". We were pretty proud of that.

Absolutely, the Bass family members have been so generous to their city - this is how it should be with folks who care about positive things in their community.

My appreciation to the Bass family has to do with the arts. Thank God for these folks and their involvement in the Bass Performing Center in downtown.

Giving as they have to the city they have loved will last for years.

And so it goes.....with givers!

I think it was the Bass father, not a brother.

Generous? Not really. Based on their wealth and their gifts, their "generosity" equates to a person making $50,000 per year giving $100 per year to charity. All in all, I think the average person is probably more generous on a percentage basis. It's EASY to give when you've got it, means more when you don't.

Anon 3:07, I guess you have access to how much he made and gave? I read that in 1991 he and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by giving $1 million each to 50 institutions. Sounds like a lot of giving to me, maybe he just fooled everyone.
