It's Hard Out Here For A Girl's Softball Coach

From the Update: DECATUR COACH RESIGNS — Decatur High School head softball coach Amber Pearce resigned on Friday. DHS athletic director Kyle Story declined any comment except to confirm she did step down. She led the Lady Eagles to a district championship and to the regional quarterfinals in her first year. Her two assistant coaches will also not return. What gives?

Betcha she's heading to Northwest! I hear they pay better!!

Probably a better working environment, as well.

This has to do with things that happened, and things that are expected to happen. As well as her need to leave for reasons that are not fully known to the general public.

By the way, the above comment actually says nothing...except what you read into it yourself. Of course it has to do with things that happened or might happen, and of course it's for reasons we're not aware of. Doesn't mean anything suspect, unless you think that way yourself.

Someone call the Bridgeport girls coach!

The administrator's are to blame. If you don't buy into their system and "kiss up", you're not going to stay. They will continue to lose good teachers and coaches as long as the current administration is there. If you've worked there, you know what I'm talking about. The principal runs perhaps one of the most liberal high schools in the state and the AD allows athletes to break the law without consequences. He also obviously has a problem with women coaches (or those who want him to follow Title IX). Since he's been there how many women coaches have come and gone? Two head softball coaches and a head basketball coach in two years? Why? But as long as he keeps winning football titles, we're OK with it. Wake up, Decatur!!

All my opinion.

Hmmmm I wonder if there will be a petition started.

Rumor has it that there has been a shakeup in the coaching situation in Bridgeport too.

Anybody know what that involves?

OMG....Coach Pearce had MAJOR issues! She would still be there if she hadn't messed up HERSELF & only she has herself to blame! She made some serious choices that affected our kids in adult ways! Go figure! Their hands were tied and I wouldn't want it any other way! I appreciate that they handled it the way they did!

Here is another example of someone not fitting in the "Wise County Way" what a bunch of hypocrites. Lets jump on this couch and assume she is a bad person for not returning to the Great Decatur ISD. Good for her I for one wish her all the best of luck.

I am sure all these Decatur elitist will find something wrong with her. She could not have found a better position or got tiered of the political crap.

Decatur High School sports is VERY POLITICAL!! That's the #1 reason my son no longer plays in Decatur!

football sucks. I would rather watch a teenage girl catch a softball any day. They are cuter.

I think Decatur respects its female athletes, and shows it. For instance, the girls cross country team has been privileged for the last two years to have what is probably one of the best coaches in the STATE (1A through 5A), yet many of the girls teams in the schools within our district would be lucky to have more than a basketball coach who wants the girls basketball team to be "in shape" for basketball season! Coach Story may not be perfect (and who is), but he is highly principled, and tries to instill that in his student athletes in his program. I like his coaching staff's motto--they want the students to be good citizens FIRST, and good athletes second.

So, why did she step down? Did they find out she was a lesbian like the old girl's basketball coach (Hanebutt)?

Anonymous said...

Aww, gee. And she didn't get the opportunity to "take them to the next level."

If you want to know what really happened here, just wait a couple of days, I am sure the Wise County Messenger will have the full story and no one will have to speculate about it.

When does football season start?

FOOTBALL RULES!!!!!!!!!! TOMORROW,THURSDAY JUNE 1 7 ON 7 IN DECATUR. GO!!!!!!!!!! FIGHT!!!!!!!!!WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good ole Wise County, where high school football "rules" above everything else... What a shame.

7 on 7. What a joke! That's just a way to cover the extra hours put in coaching and practicing in the summer. The coaches conveniently sit on the sidelines while the "students" coach themselves. Yeah, right!! Why don't we just pay high school athletes minimum wage to play ball year round. They get "paid" in so many other ways anyway. Why hide it? No other sport gets top-notch equipment and charter buses to ride 30 minutes to the metroplex.

2:13- I wish some of that "good citizenship" that Story is instilling in the athletes would carry over to the rest of the student body. DHS students are some of the worst drivers and litterers around. Just drive by the high school during the week. There's like 12 trash cans in the parking lots and they throw their litter everywhere. They speed through my neighborhood like there's no tomorrow. I'll be glad to see them go to the other side of town and litter the new campus.

Maybe Bridgeport can hire her so they can really know how lucky they were with the Coach they lost!

You guys are busting on Kyle Story? Heck! If you don't want him, we will take him. (Oh wait, I forgot we will never have an opening for AD....Lord Danny did not get the opportunity to move UP the texas football coaches ladder.
$80K a year to coach High School football....what a joke!

Notice Kyle Story "declined any comment" Learn Danny Learn! Maybe he can help you with football too!

Nothing is wrong with a lesbian coach. Better than those hateful heteros. Remember, heteros killed Jesus.

Amen! Praise Jesus!

All I can say is "Good Ridance & Don't let the door hit ya on the a** on the way out!" Thank God for Coach Story! Coach Pearce's foul mouth, immature acting, PMS personality will not be missed!

wow, if being a lesbian is a reason to be fired, there will be more leaving decatur -- starting with the tennis coach.
i heard pearce had a falling out with the girls basketball coach because of the problem with sharing the same athletes.
just like coach C and hanebutt, they can do better than the 3A level. just like hanebutt, i think pearce will be a college coach.

I guess it needed to be your child that was sought after for you to feel differently. The sexuality really wasn't the issue it was a predator stalking a minor! The alcohol, cigarettes, & tatoo pushing surely couldn't have done it!

It's amazing to me...how everything always gets turned towards Bridgeport. Face it people.......every school district faces the same problems. Thank you Danny keep up the good work. We are thankful you are in Bridgeport.

WOW!, anon 8:44, someone in B-port does like lord Danny. Interesting , that Hart goes to Chico and Half of B-port go w/ him...hmmmm We've gotten at least 10 kids from B-port just this year!! I left w/ them and for good reason!

The state determined that the title IX business was a farce. The athletic program in Decatur does not favor one gender over another...however, there was one thing pointed out by the state that the female's had but the male's did not.

As for the other ridiculous statement concerning the death of Christ, I do not believe there was a count of sexual preferences from any of the attending groups. There always has and always will be people with unnatural tendencies. Fortunately, they were not give the power of procreation.

huh, wtf did u just say?

Anonymous said...

i think he said we don't know whether the people who killed jesus was homo or hetero. if you read, you will see that there was as much sin in the world then as there is today. it could be that many of those calling for jesus death participated in homosexual relationships. we don't know but in all honesty it really isn't relevant to this topic.
i doubt the coach was fired for sexual behavior unless she was advancing/promoting something that wasn't appropriate. from what i've heard, that was not the case.

Hey 6:35 Title 9 is for colleges, and you don't need an apostrophe for a plural...when will Wi'se Countian's 'start to 'see that apo'strophe's are not nece's'sary before every "'s"?????? Got 'school's there? WITH ENGLI'SH cla's'se's?

There will never be a coach in the world that will make even 80% of parents happy. I wouldn't be a coach for 100k a year. There are to many idiots ot there.

Anonymous said...

title ix does apply to high schools as decatur just went through a review process. it came out that the girls program actually had some advantages over the boys.
i don't know the guy in b'port but i do believe story does a good job. he can't make every parent and child happy so he's (i hope it was ok to use an apostrophe there) going to take some lumps. the sad part is the parents who believe their children are better than they are. if they are as good as they think, they can still find opportunities after high school.

The Title IX issue in Decatur ousted an ILLEGAL and DISCRIMINATORY policy that was in effect for the girls only. Call the administration and ask them if that isn't so. It also forced the admin to change their ridiculous kangaroo court system of handling complaints from those who choose to bring those complaints/concerns to the school's attention. The Title IX filing was done only because the Decatur AD and Superintendent would NOT listen when they were told they were enforcing a policy that was a Title IX violation. I guess they are/were "above any law." Now things will be different. Who cares if the boys also benefited from the filing. If things were not equal, they should have been!
Decatur's administration needs a complete overhaul. There is no excuse for them handling things so improperly!

Anonymous said...

Yes! Seems the MESSENGER shed some light on the fact that the filing was not a "farce," but did make some needed changes in Decatur ISD. That article also made it clear that the Superintendent of Decatur was doing some fancy foot work trying to dance around lies that he was caught in. Must be nice to draw the kind of pay he does, and still get away (with a raise) with lying to everyone.

there was no title 9 problem. who cares if the girls had to run a 7 minute mile? the boys ran it faster than that anyway. why would any parent complain that a school is trying to make their kit in better physical shape? the moonshadows where just mad that their son was shafter by story because he was not an athlete.

Sounds/looks like someone ( 9:07)might need to pay better attention in school. lol!!
