As violence in Iraq escalates to an all time high, gas prices continue to rise, Iran rattles its sabers more loudly than ever about nuclear weapons, and immigration issues remain unresolved . . .
it's so comforting to know that your President spends his time today urging for a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage. A proposition that, everyone agrees, stands absolutely no chance of passing the House or the Senate.
Smart Republicans should be insulted.

We had the same thought, something akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Of course it does not have a chance of being implemented as neither 3/4 of Senate or House would ever pass it. This is our country not the far rights.
All in all a most bizarre grasp at placsting the political base that elected him (I think).
Since we are told that gas supples are so short, who is buying the oil from Iraq?
Barry, I agree that smart Republicans should be offended and I have an idea they are.
Issues such as this should never wind up in the government domain.
Speaking of, a male cousin recently became united to his male partner of twenty years in a civil ceremony. I even received a photo of them with the smiling minister behind. I don't understand it, but tried to be kind in wishing them well.
What good would it do to pass judgement?
As I was spending sixty dollars to fill up my gas tank yesterday, all I could think about is the threat that gay marriage poses to our freedoms. Our men and women are dying in Iraq so that gays cannot marry in the good old US of A. We have a bunch of idiots in Washington.
So true 7:38 and we seem powerless to do anything about it.
Gas goes up and we pay it because we have to.
Somebody posted a site on an email recently where a person can type in their zipcode and it will bring up the gas stations in their area and what their prices are that day.
At least we can do a bit of comparing before we gas up.
Wonder how long it will take the feds to shut that down?
I'm a republican and I am insulted. And embarrassed. Just a plan to raise his popularity index and get the Right all riled up over nothing. Thanks W....you huge disappointment!
Why is it so hard for you guys to support a president that's still married to his first wife, doesn't cheat, has morals, upholds what this country was founded on, believes in God and what the Bible says, and trying not to let our country go to Hell? Is a good Christian boring to you? Did any of you morans listen when he said this war would take years to resolve so be patient? Stop worshipping 100% what the media is saying and talk to the real people, our soldiers, who are living this war. Good things are happening everyday in Iraq, we just don't hear that part because that's not what keeps people glued to the TV or buying newspapers. Military people know their mission and support our president wholeheartedly. What would happen if for just one day everyone would support the president? If you don't, YOU are the disgrace to this country. I am proud of our president for sticking to his guns in the face of adversity and I'm really proud of our military and what they are doing. Try saying a prayer today for our president and our immoral society and see what happens. I don't think it will kill you!
I thought "smart" and "republican" were oxymorons, or in too many cases, just morons.
To hell with morality.
Bad Bush!! Yea, right.
I could not hold this back:
Still married to his first wife, yeah I guess he is don't know how happy they are though.Doesn't theat who cares? I would much prefer to be paying $1.50 for gas but that's me and that's what's important to me. Has morals that's debateable; he liked to drink, but of course he was not an alcholic because he aolved that himself. I do recall that once an alcoholic always one. You don't cure yourself that I do know. Why would neither he nor his wife attend their daughters graduations from college? Maybe not moral but it is the right thing to do. Security?
Have you ever seem presidential security, I have and they are secure wherever they go. Beliefs are totally personal and should stay as such.
The media is the problem, now that comment is nothing other than positively daft. The media took on a Detroit lean to the right since Foz started. Now whose cousin has a major position with them? Oh yeah that's right.
Wat do I want? I would love to get the truth whenever the President speaks, no spin and no one elses words; stop pandering to those that gave you the most money. Remember sir this a democracy not a monarchy.
Let's see. Didn't W say "I'm a UNITER, not a DIVIDER"? Another lie to get elected. Look where we are now...Reminds me of "Read my lips, no new taxes".
9:10.... Talk to the soldiers? OK, I did, I have several friends who are in the military who have been over there and come back. I just had a conversation with my neighbor last night who just got back from Iraq a month ago. Everyone one of them wonders why in the hell they were sent over there. I've never heard them talk about the "good things that are happening every day in Iraq". Everyone one that I have talked to that has actually been over there says that in order to leave Iraq in a stable state, we will have to commit to no less than 10 more years. I don't see that happening.
Yes, and a person I know has a loved one in Red River Hospital, who visits with several youngsters in the 18, 19, 20 age bracket - in there because of drug addiction, attained while trying to make sense of that stupid war.
I shudder to think how God will judge this administration.
I guess it just depends on who you talk to that has been over there. Several of my buddies in the Armed Forces say that what they are doing is great. If you care enough to look it up take a look at the number of kids that are being educated, the improvements in the quality of life, and other related categories.
And to 11:30
You are just plain ignorant. I don't believe in everything that is going on but I do believe that the people in Washington know more than I do. I also believe that people should support the President and government 100%. That doesn't mean you have to agree a 100% with what is being done. We live in the greatest country in the world, that is why everyone is wanting to be over here. There has never in our history been a President who didn't have people oppose what they were trying to get accomplished. The problems of this country are far to great for any one person to be responsible and for them to try and make a difference in 4 or 8 years. The media has always had a liberal slant and will continue to. Their job is to gather viewers and nothing does a better job than controversy.
Hmmm...must have been the "LIBERAL" media that dubbed in "W"'s words about being a UNITER not DIVIDER! Those darn liberal media editors.
Oh, I forgot, the MEDIA instituted this rediculous controversy about gay marriage. Must have been their idea, certainly not "W" the UNITER!
9:10 - what planet are you from???
I guess Bush should just abandon all legislative efforts and focus on ending the war. Would you libs think the same way if he was pushing for "gay" marriage? I doubt it.
He is advocating something he believes in (traditional marriage -a gutsy choice in today's screwed up world)
Barry is just taking his cue from the demos latest talking points. I heard Joe Biden saying the same thing on Sunday. It just a tool to suggest whatever Bush does is wrong.
What's next sit ins and folk music?
The answer my friend is blowing the wind....
All this blogging, yet nobody has mentioned that's not what the passage says at all.
2:23 PM
"We live in the greatest country in the world, that is why everyone is wanting to be over here."
Haha, seriously, you obviously haven't left your hometown, much less your country.
Us quiet swedes started a freaking riot when Bush came to our town. On my birthday, I remember. Now that was a welcoming the world has never seen. Sorry, but really, we don't like what your government is doing, leftwing to rightwing, no one really does. Sorry to ruin your self image and ego.
2:23p...What the crap?? Why do we all have to be a bunch of lemmings? I DO NOT feel obligated to support the president regardless of whatever he undertakes.
A democracy is a government for the people, by the people...and if I don't support what the goverment is doing you better damn well believe I'm going to speak my mind.
I will not be a lemming.
my BROTHER served in Iraq...says that the media has it all wrong. The Iraqis are HAPPY we are there. The only complainers are the ones who got their nice government stipends taken away when the US arrived. The every day man is grateful for what we are doing according to my brother.
If you don't like the price of gas, ride a bike or walk I'm sure the exercise won't kill you.
If you like gay marriage, go to a country where it is legal.
I agree there are numerous very important issues this country needs to deal with, but why can't we multi-task.
I'm sure you all will pick this apart as well, your contribution to society is to point out others faults.
If anyone, I repeat, anyone thinks that the loss of millions of veteran's private information from a laptop computer was theft or a mistake they are fools. How does a rogue govt employee have that much info on a laptop that could be stolen? This is paart of the bigger plan or Bush will hold someone accountable if it is not.
What is insulting is an idiot indicating that republicans are the only ones that would be concerned about defining marriage. Any decent human being should want it defined due to the fools who have chosen to blur the the obvious historic definition that is ordained with procreation privileges.
Ahem!....
The United States is a REPUBLIC NOT a democracy.
I spent FIVE weeks at Landstuhl Army Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany near Ramstein Air Base while the doctors did their best to rebuild my husband's face/scull and eyes. While I was there I spoke with countless military personnel and not once did I speak with a single person who thought what they had done in Iraq was a waste of time or that the United States needs to "pull out" before the job is finished. However, EVERY soldier, marine and airman with whom I spoke thought Rumsfield is an IDIOT/DUMBASS/ASSHOLE and the way the war is being fought is "F***ed up."
Incidentally, my spouse was NOT a member of the armed services. He was the first civilian in Iraq 3 days after the beginning of the invasion. He was the lead engineer responsible for restoring and reengineering the oil and gas infrastructure in the northern region of Iraq after securing oil production in the southern region. During his 10 months in Kirkut prior to being injured by an insurgent’s IED he made several good friends with Iraqis. We received gifts and letters from his Iraqi friends explaining how ashamed and embarrassed they were that someone who came to their country to help improve Iraq and the lives of Iraqis was so maliciously injured.
The two things the Iraqis were certain of is that their lives are better since the fall of Saddam and they did not want the Americans to leave until order was established.
On many occasions my husband told me that had he known how things would have turned out for him he would have gone to Iraq to help those people.
My husband taught me that there are times that what we want/want to do and what we need to do are so divergent that it defies comprehension and takes an exceptional person to set aside personal preferences and step up and just do it.
I don't pretend to understand but I do know that unless you have LIVED and DIED it you really are nothing more than an arm chair quarterback and any opinion you have is based upon at best second hand information tarnished/twisted by the biased perspective of the person telling the tale.
I am grateful to live in America where we ALL have the "RIGHT" to voice our opinions and live our lives without fear of reprisals/death. Unfortunately, it is really quite easy to become smug when it comes to providing those freedoms to other people.
If you have more than enough to eat and don't stop to think about and do something for those who are hungry then you are indeed no better than the French, Germans, Russians, Chinese and Swedes when it comes to sharing the bounty of personal freedoms enjoyed by people in free nations.
That being said....How dare any bunch of self righteous homophobes attempt to legislate love and commitment and base it upon gender. It really is NO ONES business what two consenting adults do together and what they call their union/marriage.
Nathalie Winberg....If you doubt the GREATNESS of the United States and the number of people who want to live in the United States take a look at the flood of people sneaking in and standing in line to get in to the U.S. verses the line of people leaving the U.S. No surprise you don't have those types of numbers regarding Sweden.
mzchief:
"the greatness", don't flatter yourself. You're just like any other "western" developed country. If I lived in a poor country where I had no opportunity to get healthcare or provide for my family I would stand in line to get into the US as well. But there's a difference between being the greatest country on earth, and just a better choice.
I don't measure such things as my countrys "greatness" and I don't feel the good or bad has anything to do with how many that are trying to get in, but rather how many that have good lives while here. Now, how are the mexicans doing, having a good time?
I never said Sweden was the perfect country, far from it, so don't think this is some sort of "I'm better than you" war, it's not. I'm just trying to deflate your heads and get your feet back on the ground. It's arrogant to think you're being worshipped by people.
To Nathalie Winberg...I was born in England and raised in England, France and Germany. My mother was French and my father was Italian. I made the choice to make the United States my home. The United Kingdom is no third world country with few choices for its citizens.
As for the Hispanics in the U.S. they are certainly doing far better in the U.S. than they would be doing in their homeland.
I do not see Sweden or for that matter any part of Scandinavia welcoming with open arms or even tolerating hordes of uneducated immigrants so as to offer them a "better choice."
Incidentally, being a "better choice" for tens of millions of people does indeed go a VERY long way to measuring the GREATNESS of a nation.
Other nations do not worship the United States but they do indeed depend on the almighty American Dollar. For the most part it is the U.S. to whom the REST of the world turns for ALL manner of assistance. Much of the distain other nationalities have for the U.S. is attributed to the belief that "Americans think they are better than the rest of the world." Wherein the truth is that the REST OF THE WORLD believes Americans ARE better.
mz:
You're still trying to make this into some sort of competition. When did I ever say Sweden was "better"? I didn't, I'm still not. We do take in a hell of a lot of immigrants though, you're very off on that. Denmark doesn't, and I don't think the other countries do either, but we take in a lot of people. So many in fact that we can't handle the paperwork at the same rate as they come in. Education is free here, and immigrant children don't have to be citizens to be able to go to school. I'm not saying that it's the best it could be, I don't think it is and sometimes I think we do a terrible job with letting people wait for so long before they know if they can stay or not. But we do to open our arms.
I don't agree on your way of measuring a countrys greatness, I don't even think it's something we should measure at all, I think a little more global, more the human race than on my homearea. You brought up the one thing about America that is so wrong, and that is the power it has over the worlds other nations, I think that's twisted, and wrong.
I respect that you apparently chose America as the greatest nation on earth, but I think you're wrong that everyone else does as well. It's true though that a lot of people are dependant on it, and it's where you need to go to make it in some businesses, primarily film industry. So we agree that other nations do not worship the US, I'm glad, because that was my interpretation of what you said earlier.
But when you say that the rest of the world believes americans are better, you yourself think that you (if you are living in america, which I presume you are at this time) are thought to be better by other people, and you consider america being the greatest country on earth, then you fit right in to the category of "Americans who think they are better than the rest". I guess you made us both right on that one.
To Nathalie Winberg....
It is a FACT that Sweden is nothing more than a fly speck on the "global" stage when compared to nations such as the United States, United Kingdom and China. Not even the European Union can hold a place on the "global" stage with one of these nations.
Deal with it!
Incidentally, education in the U.S. is FREE to the children of citizens and legal immigrants as well as the children of the nearly 12 MILLION known illegal immigrants.
mzchief: You're still not getting it are you? So I'm just going to leave it there, you live your dream :) Don't think I get offended, I don't identify myself with invisible boundaries, "attacking" my country doesn't affect me, but apparently it does affect you, which can't be all that good.
I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at with "fly", size, influence? I don't care, it's still not some sort of competition to me, I don't feel I have to proove myself through my nations accomplishments, I'm happy with myself.
The reason I said we accept immigrants (uneducated ones) and said that school was free for them was just to say that your precious statement was wrong.
Why don't you find some self worth in something other than your nation? We're not competing here, we're supposed to try and live as well as we can, all of us. But it seems you're more interesting in beating down the rest to stand on top.
I think we're done with the discussion though, with several faulty statements and obviously too much emotion you're not someone I can have a discussion with that would actually lead to anything else but you getting upset.
To Nathalie Winberg....
For your information a “fly speck” is what a fly regurgitates when it lands on ANY surface.
After having read your blog and seen your "art" I now realize you are very immature and unsophisticated, that being the case it may explain your short attention span and inability to recall certain FACTS! YOU are the one who attacked people based upon their nationality and criticized an ENTIRE nation for not living up to YOUR standards. That being the case it is a wee bit late for you to attempt to take the high road. Before you shoot from the lip you might consider engaging your BRAIN!
As for NOT getting it, there is NO doubt someone as pretentious and naive as you has little hope of EVER "getting it."
Incidentally, the reason I deleted your comment from MY comment page is because your blog posts are so very crude I really would rather NOT have someone like you linked in ANY way to MY page.
You may continue to rant on but I refuse to further debate with you. ONLY a fool argues with an idiot and I have no interest in being any more foolish than I already have. I am done with you.
Cheers!
Thanks mz, you did well, cheers :) And I don't hate americans, stop implying that I do!
