The Star-Telegram obituary on the death of Leroy Burch is here.
It bears the unfortunate title of: "Former sheriff convicted in extortion schemes dies"

Wow. From the blog one would get the impression he was really well liked, possibly quirky. Would not have guessed he haunted rest areas and hurt so many people.
I think the Star-Telegram lacks class in a headline like that. Just tell the story with fact, but not try to draw the reader in with negativity during the time of grief for his family and friends.
On another deceased person in the news and blog is the daughter of the 80+ year old gentleman who died right after killing his wife, is fighting to get his military burial.

So ~ wonder what the big secret is in regards to cause of his passing away....
It is very sad that many people will forever define him by his mistakes.
He didn't "haunt" the rest areas, he was involved in their bonding out of jail. I liked what Phil said about him--it showed class on Phil's part.
The Star Telegram has not given the cause of death for Burch. Does it really matter after all? He's dead and left behind a family who will mourn.
It does make one wonder how certain kinds of folks get into law enforcement work to start with?
They can either be a good or bad example to the profession, their co-workers and the public.
I guess history will show what Burch's example was.
Ours too.
Burch's example reflects what Wise County is really like ...
