Well, score a victory for small-minded bureaucracy and a huge loss for common sense and decency.
Veterans Affairs has decided that James Roberson is not worthy of being buried in the local VA cemetery. In an act of mercy, Mr. Roberson shot his elderly, incapacitated wife rather than see her go to a nursing home after his impending death.
I guess his distinguished military service was not enough.

I say let the guy be buried in the VA plot...I DON'T agree w/him murdering his perfectly non-terminal wife, but he earned his planting spot, for gawd's sake...
Well, shall we expect war to erupt within the veteran groups over this one?
How stupid and senseless this is. So he murdered his wife. So can we define "murder" as it applies to war?
Killing is killing. The poor man should be buried as a veteran.
Typical government BS!!
Agh, if you could just decide when you're that old to go when you want to go and get a shot instead of having your husband shoot you, god... the desperation you must go through before deciding such a thing.
What if he wasn't in his "right" mind? It was obvious he felt his decision was a desperate one. Hindsight is always 20/20. Did he know without a doubt that his wife would be cared for and loved by these other family members?
Unfortunately with murder or suicide the result ends up being a permanent solution to what is usually a glitch in the road for most of us. Some people get overwhelmed and just can't deal.
Remember, this poor guy never had his day in court before he passed on and we may never really discoved why he felt he had to take the drastic measures of killing his beloved wife. Does it even matter? His military status and career is what should have earned him a spot in the VA cemetery? Right? Who are we to pass judgement for an old demented man's desperate life-changing decision? I think he should be buried next to his wife for eternity. They were, after all married for many years and clearly devoted to each other. What would Jesus do?
Make it right for him, Barry. Do you know a good lawyer?
