One of my many nerdy qualities is to look at all the new Texas cases handed down by the Texas appellate courts. Of course, I'm interested in criminal cases but every now and then a civil case will get my attention.
Like today.
The second paragraph of Johnson v. Baylor University, 188 S.W.3d 298 (Tex.App. - Waco 2006) reads: "Johnson, a pilot for Baylor in the [early 1990's], was fired for chronic obesity and poor grammar and diction, which Baylor believe diminished its image to people who flew on Baylor's aircraft."

I am going on vacation to Texas in a few weeks. I can hardly wait.
If you're nerdy enough to follow the goings-on of Texas appellate courts - then you should be giddy to know that I'm doing an internship with the 4th Court this summer. Love me some oral arguments.

It is difficult to believe that a Texas Baptist organization could justify firing someone for being fat and country. Listen to Jerry Falwell sometime and tell me he is not one fat, Baptist, country boy.
Being a transplant/immigrant from England it took me years to realize there are times when a Texan says "own" they mean ON, "fur" sometimes means FOR and "thang" means THING. However, I NEVER would think it projects an undesirable image. After all my two dearest friends were Scottish and the other was Irish. Speaking with those two you would, to say the least, have some WILD grammar and ahhhhhhh diction.
I guess since they are Christians they are supposed to want poor representatives of their school? Nice one Barry. Just because you're a Christian organization, it doesn't mean you can't fire someone now and then. That post was sorry.
I think more details are needed to make a judgement. Size wise, is he 5'2" & 500 lbs. or 6'4" & 320 lbs. or what? Makes a difference.
Language wise, is he talking country like 'mzchief' talked about with a few damns and hells in there or is he throwing the F bomb every other sentence? Makes a diffenece. Need more details.
