I Can't Get This Out Of My Mind

Pat Tillman, the NFL player who went off to Afghanistan, only to be shot dead by friendly fire, is having his death investigated again by the federal government.

Few people are aware of his very classy brother's remarks at his funeral:

Thanks Pat. [toasting him with a glass of Guiness beer] I didn't write [S Bomb deleted] because I'm not a writer. I'm not just going to sit here and break down on you. But thanks for coming. Pat's a [F Bomb deleted] champion and always will be. Just make no mistake, he'd want me to say this: He's not with God. He's [F Bomb deleted] dead. He's not religious. So, thanks for your thoughts, but he's [F Bomb deleted] dead.

Very touching.

Very Touching? Very sad

Very sad in light of the Army's heroic accounts of Tillman’s fighting end (all a cover-up for a tragic screw-up dying from other soldiers' fire). Recall also the hype over the heroic Jessica who was captured after her convoy couldn't follow maps and got lost. Wouldn't want to mention the mess in various prisons. This war is full of erroneous accounts issued by the Army. And who takes responsibility? No one! Few have been tried for violations and fewer actually convicted.

Maybe Tillman's brother used language appropriate for the mess we've gotten into. At least he was there and experienced it.

Since he wasn't religious, I guess this kind of language was common family conversing. Wonder where his service was held?

It does seem like a family member could express things without all of the "f" words, at least at a funeral/memorial service.

This is gonna happen in churches one of these days with these preachers that invite anybody to speak.

Whoa! :)

mess? Do you realize that they in the middle east want all of us americans DEAD! Do you understand that?

11:47 - You've been brainwashed by the right wing nutz. "They" (militant Muslims) want the US out of their countries. Is that hard to understand? They don't care about Americans or other nationalities in their own territories - they just want us out of their affairs. That sometimes includes Israel so we seem to have an impasse. But over generalizing that Muslims want all Americans dead is just a gross overstatement.

11:47, Sounds like you've been brain-washed by the left wing nuts that hate everything about President Bush and everything he does, just to score political points. Where did yoiu get your information, from talking to all of the muslim people you know? Or by listening to someone who says THEY're an expert? Sounds like brainwashing goes both ways, huh?
Who really knows what the muslims want from us or wish for us? Not me...

OOPS, I MEANT 10:01, NOT 11:47... sorry...

I really don't care if you are left wing, right wing or anything. Anyone who would say that at a funeral/memorial service should think about someone other then themselves. I do not know Pat Tillman but I find it hard to believe that he really wanted that to be said at his funeral!

What a jackass!!

I think the brother was probably feeling horribly guilty and really grieving. The brother enlisted with him and I think he must have been just out of his mind at that point. Don't judge him too harshly.

A terrible waste! So many fine soldiers dying and killing in a wasted effort. Afghanistan is still dysfunctional country and we haven't caught Osama or Mullah Omar for 4 years. And then have your brother shot up by your own troops and then the event covered up by superiors, well, I guess the guy had a reason to feel profane.
