Random Prayer Thought

You often hear of (or may even become part of) a prayer group for an individual who is having health or other serious issues. That group will even encourage others to pray for that person. Which gives rise to the question: Is God influenced by the number of people that pray for the same thing?

Yes, God often talks about intercessory prayer, although sometimes the prayers don't jive with His Will, i.e., sometimes He doesn't grant the prayer requests. But that's OK, because God knows best. As born-again children of God, Christians are still supposed to pray for one another. He still "hears our prayers and hears our cries."
The Bible says "Where two or more are gathered in My name, there am I in the midst of them." It also says "The fervent effectual prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

I don't think that God is counting how many people pray and certainly don't think the number of people has influence on what might happen. These are hard questions because we don't understand everything and can't. Yet, while I know that I am selfish and want loved ones to stay by me a little longer, those who have the right relationship with God have a much more glorious future awaiting them when they die.

God answers ALL prayers, however the answer sometimes is "NO"!

That is a great random prayer thought. Love it when we pause and think things through like that.

Maybe because no two people pray the same way or even for the same thing exactly - even if it is for healing, strength, etc., so maybe God needs to hear from just the right person for the right reason in order to answer (no matter what the answer is) the prayer(s).

Maybe by having numerous people pray for a person, event, or whatever the prayer request is --- maybe this connection with other people is what God intends for us to do --- CONNECT with each other. Maybe the person/place/thing we are praying for is not to reach an ultimate goal, but to experience love, faith, & hope in order to become more compassionate, which makes ones walk with Him much grander.

Maybe - but you never know, which is one of the greatest mysteries of Christianity. Faith, hope, and love along with prayer is pretty powerful regardless of how things come out in the end....

ok 3:00pm (Faith 3X's): if someone has cancer and prays continuously for a year that they will be healed and live longer and they still die....does that mean they didn't have enough faith? I actually had a radical christian friend tell me that if a child gets sick and dies it's b/c they didn't have enough faith in God to heal them. I'm sorry, I can't fathom that I worship a God that would spare the life of a drunk who just plowed into and killed a family over a child who is ill but possibly doesn't have enough faith. I have faith. But I also pray "Lord, YOUR will be done and not mine.".....that my friend is faith.

Of course, it would be hypocritical to think that prayer for specific life instances would be heard by God, but then to not realize or believe that if that is the case then God truly is responsible for everything, including the situation of the afflicted. In other words, if you're going to pray to God to save someone from cancer, then while doing so also thank God for giving that person cancer in the first place.

“When two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in midst of them.” (Mt. 18:20)

My guess ... this is what they are leaning on.

Will let me tell you God responds to faith and His word nothing else!

Without faith it is impossible to please God!

He has give each child of God the same measure of faith! So its not that we do not have enough faith because we do. The word says if you have faith as a mustard seed! Which is very small, your faith will move anything.

Its not that we do not have enough faith, but we need to know that He loves us! If we say we need more faith then its all about us and not Jesus. Our focus is on us. But if we come to terms that everything He did was for us and just receive His love. Its not about more faith it's about living in His love!

God will grant every prayer request that is prayed in faith, and according to His will!

It's not His will for someone to die young! cancer etc.... Jesus came that we may have life! John 10:10

Jesus said if you pray and DO NOT DOUBT you will have what you prayed for! ( acoording to His will, which is His word)

How do you not doubt? Get est in His Love. Why His love? Because His love never, never fails!

Thanks to everyone who posted on this topic. I had no idea you all had such beliefs. I read the Blog and find it entertaining but now I somehow feel better connected with those of you who post. God Bless.

To GreatGoogelyMoogley:
Your radical Christian friend needs to read the Old Testament book of JOB--the idea of bad things happening to only those of "little" faith is an old and extremely erroneous belief--refuted in JOB and later on, by Jesus in his confrontations with the dogmatic, hidebound Jewish beliefs during His time. In any event, what we normally call "good" or "bad" is not what God thinks is good or bad. Ultimately, the only "good" God desires for us to have is to develop a character as close as possible to Jesus. Therefore, we all have times of ups and downs in order to develop this character.

We are pleased that you have an intelligent and worthy question.

Anon 7:39 Your premise that we all have the same amount of faith is absolutely false. Read Matt. 8:10, Jesus said the centurian exhibited more faith than any in all Israel that he had encountered.

Your statement that "God will grant all prayer requests when prayed with faith and according to his will" is predicated upon the prayer being according with God's will. But a prayer offered, even in great faith, will not be answered to their desires, if it is not God's will.

I don't think Barry's question was really answered. To me, what he is asking is, If more people pray for something will it influence God to possibly change His mind? An example might be: A person has terminal cancer. 20 people gather for a prayer group obviously that he would be healed. Let's say God had said if 21 or more people show up I'll heal him, if not I won't heal them.
My opinion is, that's not how it works.
I hear preachers say at funerals, God has called the deceased home. This drives me crazy, because it implicates God as causing their death. I don't think so.

Also, in regards to having faith of a mustard seed, yes a mustard seed is very small. But, what if God measures faith by the weight of atomic particles, then if you had faith of the size of a mustard seed, your faith would be great.

anon 12:12 You are right! I hear preachers all the time saying God called this child home, or they died of this sickness becasue it was God's will WRONG!!!!!

Its not how many pray its how you pray! Its God's will that everyone live a good healthy life. ( John 10:10) But we have a lot to do with it in the way we live!

If you are born again you have the same Spirit in you that raised Christ from the dead!

God said my people perish for lack of knowledge! Not lack of faith!

Faith, Hope and Love! Love being the greatest!

I have kids and I would never want them to die young, sickness etc...
And God loves my kids more than I do!

We need to use our faith to build ourselves in the love of God!

Eph 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; That you being rooted and grounded in His LOVE!!!!

Our faith should take us to the place where we are rooted and grounded in His LOVE!

By being grounded in His Love we know that He wants the best for us!

I John 5:14-15
And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.

3 John 1;2
Beloved in regard to all things I pray that you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers.

I prefer to think of it as "cosmic consciousness", or "positive thinking"......but I do think these things work SOMETIMES, but not ALWAYS as many of you other posters have eluded to.

?

Why do you think that way?

Amazing!! The number of you poster who buy into some form or other of this religious hocus pocus. Good for you. However - science and logic just don't support you. Be brave, pray and hope for afterlife - I just don't waste my time doing that stuff.

Anon 7:39 let me say this... faith is not believing that God WILL do something but that he CAN do it. There are things that we want that are no in our best interest and God denies us those things. However you can still have faith in the fact that God CAN answer your prayers.

People will lose faith thinking that they simply didnt belive hard enough and that is not the case at all. You can rest in your faith that God CAN do all things.

miz.gina said...

Anon 11:30 there is one thing that you forget, God does see death as we do. For him to "call them home" means that they are back to heaven where they started...

The bible says that precious in the eyes of the lord is the death of his saints. When you know someone and love them... then you want to be with them. God desires to be with us, we are only on Earth to learn to love.

God didnt set out to make mankind removed from him. He walked with adam and eve. He wants us with him.

ummm anon 9:03 and if we are right and you are wrong you are up poop creek are you not?

The most precious prayers are from those who do it but don't talk about it publically.

How are ya'll so certain god made us? Do you really think god hangs around in his lab "making up" new life forms? Conjuring up weather, planets, stars, dark matter, etc? While you may thinks he/she must have done so as all this stuff is here, we might also then ask, "Who built god?" And no fair just saying she/he was always here, as that could also be the answer to all else we know about in the universe.
