More State of The Union Speech Excerpts

If the following is true, thats-a-good. It probably has nothing to do with government, but good nonetheless: "In recent years, America has become a more hopeful Nation. Violent crime rates have fallen to their lowest levels since the 1970s. Welfare cases have dropped by more than half over the past decade. Drug use among youth is down 19 percent since 2001. There are fewer abortions in America than at any point in the last three decades, and the number of children born to teenage mothers has been falling for a dozen years in a row."

I like how Bush utilizes his creator in his speeches. Nice seperation of church and state eh? Thank God I didn't vote for the poor soul.

You probably didn't vote, period.
And, IF you knew your American History a bit better, you'd know that "separation of church and state" is mythical; and it's underlying truth stems from our Forefathers' efforts to draw distinctions between the two in their dedication to keep government from quashing our religious freedoms. NOT to eliminate religion from our country's very reins.

Thank you comment4u. many people don't understand that, and I'm GLAD you do!!!

Comment4u RIGHT ON ... Our country was built on faith and the right for the religious freedoms Americans take for granted :)

If you all knew your history better, you would remember the first "immigrants" to this land came in an attempt to escape the ruling Puritan gov. that had seized power in England (ref. Cromwell). Our forefathers were NOT against religion; they were AGAINST ANY attempt to establish, or forcably(sp?)require the population to participate in a particular brand of religion. This administration has taken the very first steps down that road by emphasizing the basic principles of the Judeo-Christian faith, to such a degree that today, as demonstrated in this blog, we attack each other for our personal beliefs and positions in regard to ANY religion, especially those contrary to the Judeo-Christian faith. You can call Barry a liberal, anti-Christian, ambulance chasing lawyer, but the point is that the recognition of ANY religious specific religious position supported by our government is contrary to the spirit, if not the letter, of the founding fathers intentions and the Constitution.

With the way this guy throws "facts" around, I wouldn't believe any of it until I checked every fact and detail.

10:15,
While they did escape the forcible practice of the Catholic faith in England; pilgrims aimed to practice their faith freely on the new homeland. These Puritans enacted the Christian faith to be practiced in each colony, settlement etc. People were tormented and beaten for not showing up to church services.
If citizens were found not to be practicing religion, they were either hung or excommunicated from that colony or settlement.
So, I am not really sure what you are getting at 10:15.

In fact, the only early colony that practiced what became our country's "freedom of religion" attitude, was Pennsylvania, founded by the Society of Friends, or Quakers. All the other colonies basically wanted freedom to practice "their" religion, and mostly excluded people of other faiths.

I've said it before and I'm saying it again. Freedom of religion is two-fold...you are free to practice whatever religion you choose. In addition, you are also free from having the religious beliefs of others forced upon you, including by the government.

Its funny how you can talk about anything on this blog but you bring up Faith in God and your pushing it down everyone!

When will President Bush and the Republican Congress wake up to the economic crisis tens of millions of Americans face? Good jobs are leaving this country, and many of the jobs that remain exploit working families by denying them adequate benefits. Millionaires and corporations receive tax breaks while Americans can't afford to save, and the gap between rich and poor continues to widen to levels unseen since the 19th century.

7:31 - it's the same old story - when people have a lot of money, they are often out of touch with folks who struggle just to survive.

Sadly.

This is a thought I often ponder when I wonder if our long-term Washington politicians can relate to our lives--how long has it been since Ted Kennedy last set foot in a grocery store and waited in line to check out? Think about it. Then you'll realize that a lot of those "career" politicians haven't got a clue--and that includes both Republicans and Democrats.

It's sad that America's only choices in 2004 where Bush and Kerry!
