One More Free Speech Rant

The Washington Post ran this cartoon recently. Offensive to the pro-war crowd? Probably. But what is absolutely incredible is that the Pentagon sent this letter (pdf format) to the newspaper yesterday chastising them for running it. Citizens can complain all they want to. America embraces the discourse. But the government should never try to stifle protected free speech. I don't think the Bush Administration understands that at all.

I believe in free speech 100%!!!!!

But you must remember with free speech comes responsibility.

...very insensitive drawing.

...somebody needed a bunch of attention.

...and got it!

What a dishonor for our troops.
Free speech or not, poor choice.

Yea, right! Free speech and responsibility. Practice free speech asking a question as to how many more dead we are going to see in the sandbox (a legitimate question SOMEONE needs to answer) and see see who take responsibilty for beating you down!

I saw a whole news segment over this cartoon when I was at the gym today...(if Barry brags about working out, I can as well) Anyway, Tim Toles is the artist for the Post, and he claims that he meant no disrespect toward the soldiers at all. He just wanted to demonstrate his opinion of Rumsfield being an unaware, insensitive politician. I think he was successful. People sure are talkin' about it, aren't they?

We should be objecting - not about the cartoon but to the continuing spin the administration and pentagon put on the tragic consequences of this stupid war. Soldiers bravely put their lives and limbs at risk in a futile effort.
