Ok, Funny Girl, Take A Hike

"NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Southwest Airlines kicked a woman off one of its flights over a political message on her T-shirt, the airline confirmed Thursday . . . . Lorrie Heasley . . . was asked to leave her flight from Los Angeles to Portland, Ore., Tuesday for wearing a T-shirt with pictures of President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and a phrase similar to the popular film title 'Meet the Fockers.' " -------------------- For what it's worth: I don't have any problem with the gal being booted off the plane since Southwest is not associated with the government. Now if she had been kicked out of a public college, a public library, or arrested for wearing it in a public park, that would be completely different.

But, she wasn't kicked out of a school or a park....etc.....so why would you even bring that up bsg?????

You're one step away from running some sort of left wing propaganda here!!!!!

That's true, you liberals like to insert problem where they don't exist.

I am glad they kicked her off. They gave her options and she refused. She made her own choice.

Oh, give it a rest, if you have a problem with BSG's post, then go visit another blog.

I am really thankful for the freedom that we have to "voice our opinions" in this country - whether it be verbal or physical (by way of clothing). I do also agree that whatever we do as people, as a country, that we be respectful of others beliefs. I continue to be saddened by the losses that our military is suffering. As Condoleesa so elequently states, these young soldiers are there because they made a choice to support their country in this war. My son will soon join the ranks, as a "navy" soldier. I am glad that it is unlikely that he will visit Iraq. I continue to pray for all of those who chose to be there. Left or right - let's support our troops.

Way to go, Southwest! Disallowing blatant disrespect for our Commander-in-Chief and his immediate staff should be more prevalent. Cheers to the airline, and jeers to the dipsh*t girl with the poor fashion sense.

I am all for the freedom to voice our opinions but I also think SWA has a right to control what happens on their airline. Passengers complained and they reacted. They gave her options and she opted to not fly. It was up to her.

While I'm amused at her boldness, this is so inappropriate. She probably is just attention-seeking. I think Southwest gave her the attention she deserved.

To the first two posters: If Barry decided to run "some sort of left wing propaganda", he can do that, its HIS blog. If you don't like it, I suggest you turn on Fox News. I'm sure Bill O'Reilly has some sort of right wing propaganda for you.

The real question is, why did they find it acceptable to allow her to sit on the plane in LA from some time, fly to Reno (where she was kicked off, without any issue being raised? The SWA employees on the flight in LA admiied to the media they knew she was wearing the shirt. The conclusion is that Reno is more conservative than LA, I guess.

Freedom of speech does not exist on Sothwest Airlines! Or the Captain of the plane hasn't read the first admendment!

Next time I fly, I will fly American.

Would it be better to ignore the funny T shirt or draw national attention to it?

Who will police what we wear when we get on Southwest Airlines or who will be listening in when we talk politics.

Can the Captain shove us out the plane for saying something negative about the Bush team?

Or can the Captain take away a book or magazine we are reading if it is negative about the Bush team?

Or can the Captain only fly people who voted for the Bush team?

Where does it end?

Thanks Barry, the subject needed to be brought to our attention.

How would all those commenting feel if they were dumped for commenting on Bill Clinton?

Wow! The plane would never get to its destination...only 50% of the passengers would still be on board!!!

I think everyone is over looking the fact it had a particular word on it. I don’t think it was a political situation. They did not want the word f%#&er displayed for everyone to see. Try wearing a shirt to work with that word on it weather political or not and see if you get to stay at work that day.

"and a phrase similar to the popular film title "Meet the Fockers." I'm with 9:08. I think it's the word - not the politics. I for one, don't want my 10 year old daughter (who flies to her dad's by herself - on Southwest) several times a year to be sitting next to a woman wearing a t-shirt with "the F word" on it. If the phrase was bad enough that the article quoted it as "a phrase similar to ".... but wouldn't put the actual phrase on it ....i suspect it was the actual word. You know - remember when you were growing up and you were told "Your freedom ends where my nose begins"? Well. I really don't think it was political either. I can't imagine with all who fly on Southwest that this is the first time someone wore a shirt with a political point of view that didn't agree with whoever is in charge.

I hesitate to mention this but I don't think the public schools would allow such a shirt. And I think they are right.

Barry knows what he's doing. He knows certain topics will start a firestorm. I never agree with him but I think it is interesting to read people's comments. It helps me understand what people are thinking. (often unbelievable)

Another tempest in a tea pot. It was the word, not the politics that caused her to be removed. Lots of businesses have policies about obscene/abusive lettering on clothing.

She was NOT kicked off the flight, she was given options. As with all media, they twist and distort the issue - anything to get their ratings up.

To those of you who so mildly toss curse words at her, you have proved your no better. You spew the same words from your own mouth, yet its the pot calling the kettle black? C'mon!

Next time you choose to fly SWA, why don't you ask them if they allow sex offenders, murderers, or even a rapist on the aircraft. These will be the same people sitting next to your children on a flight!
Remember the men who took our planes into the trade centers and killed our own people were dressed like "conservatives".

If You judge a person only by a shirt then you are the one who is ignorant!

SWA was quick to say that it was due to the "word" on her t-shirt, I will argue that:
"There were four older women on the plane that day that didn't like her T-shirt. They assumed she had a certain political belief and it obviously wasn't the same as theirs. And they made darn sure to try to take the control and make her turn it inside out and they are no better than she is, and They shouldn't have more rights than she does."

Problem? Yes, SWA attendants on that flight promised her a refund. She was given choices: 1) turn the t-shirt inside out, or 2) unboard the plane and receive a refund for that segment of the trip.

Once she unboarded the plane, she was then refused the refund! SWA owes her that, it was representatives of SWA that promised her a refund!

To Anon 10:39, thank you for clearing that up. I'm so glad YOU WERE ON THE FLIGHT to give us such accurate clarification. If you think it wasn't the word printed on the shirt, then you're really lacking morality. By the way, the news story I heard clearly stated thst SWA would refund the taxes on her ticket, not the actually fare.

To Anon 3:00 PM

You were obviously NOT on the flight. Have a wonderful day!
