Windys O yes I love Frosties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The western boot company is a new company that is producing boots overseas and will use Decatur as a distribution point. Since much of the inventory will be shipped out of state, the company will not be taxed on it. It's amazing how they got $200k and companies already here with bigger inventories and tax bills get to watch them enjoy the money.
I think it is time to do away with the EDC! All they do is give away our tax money to big corporations while hard working Wise County business get to compete with these guys when they come to down (Lowe’s).
I completely agree with all of you. Lowes, was already planning on coming to Decatur. The EDC said here is a big fat check with your name on it just for coming to our city-so of course the corporation said, "Umm, ok.." think about it this is ridiculous. When you get a chance look at the people who are on the EDC board. You might see a few of them whenever you decide to cash your check at a local bank, or trade your car in-in town. What makes their judgement so great-as to shell out hundreds of thousands of Decatur's tax paying citizens dollars to corporations? I say stop WAVING money in corporations faces to bring them here, and help the local businesses already here.
But don't you folks from Arlington and Hurst and the rest of the "MetroMess" know that the EDC is in favor of PROGRESS and BIG BUSINESS? The very things you ran from but couildn't wait to litter our countryside with?
Wizard, What is wrong with big business? Instead of saying we wished our city was like the old days, we should be trying to improve Decaturs' economic interest in North Texas. I disagree whole heartedly with what the EDC is doing. We need to reward citizens that start businesses, we need to reward businesses that started in the city and have stayed in Decatur. Local business is key to job growth in this area. Corporations are ok as long as they are started or are headquartered in this city. Otherwise, they are just taking more money away from tax paying citizens whether you like it or not.
I don't like the tax abatements, but let's be real, Lowes will brign in more jobs than the Bridgeport and Decatur Lumber yards have combined. Also add in employee benefits that the smaller companies cannot come close to matching.
The abatements don't last forever and in the mean time more people are working with better benefits.....and who knows about the pay.
Like it or not, Wise County is no longer only a bunch of sleepy little bedroom cities for commuting workers or local farmers.
The forefathers of our great city want more and more and more people to come here - littering our highways, paralyzing our emergency services, taking more and more groundwater, etc. The bait they throw us is that if more businesses come our property taxes will be lower. What a crock. Our property taxes will never go down and we will get to spend more of our free leisure time in traffic jams on Highway 51 because our road infrastructure will never accommodate all of these out of county transplants that come here.
I agree 100% with the previous post. Growth brings nothing but more problems. To handle the growth we must build more roads and add more people to the county and city payrolls. Growth will come no matter what but we don't need to roll out the red carpet and give them a free meal ticket. It time to vote out the EDC and our forefathers!
The question was Who among you can name the Business before Then? Not who among you wasn't born on the island and moved here and ruined our whole county. Why don't you put your negative attitude to use in some positive manner where it will be benificial to your county. Wise County is growing and will continue to grow and it won't do any of us any good for you to gripe about it.
Ok, Twisted X Boots is coming to Decatur. Now, while some of you want more jobs from corporations-think again.. Twisted X is only needing 10 people to fill slots.. 10 PEOPLE THATS IT.. Nice corporate job growth.
Just another stupid decision by the Decatur EDC.. Lets let Twisted X come to Decatur, heck lets give them $200k to boot, and provide 10 jobs to the city. Wow, amazing economic development. I will think twice about visiting that car dealership you mentioned Anon.
It was funny how the EDC kept it such a mystery too. For a second I thought it was a business worth a crap in actually stimulating our economy. Like Tony llama boots or something I don't know. But Twisted X Boots? Has anyone even heard of Twisted X Boots? How much will they pay for their 10 new openings? $5.25-$6 an hour?
Where are they taking application? I want to hurry since they will be going by the end of next year. I guess that gives them time to spend the $200 thousand we are giving them for moving expenses.
I wonder how much the EDC would give more "moving expenses", to move my web design business from Dallas to Decatur? Heck, for $200k I would make this our home for at least a couple of years.
The only problem I can think of-as far as bringing your design company to Decatur would be no new jobs available to the citizens of Decatur. It is great to relocate, but for what reason? Just money?
Anon #23, I understand what you are saying. I was only suggesting that about my company in theory. I am sure a lot of small business owners feel the same. Dependent on the price-accomodations can be made. We are happy where are at in Dallas though. But who knows maybe one day I will open a little office in Decatur but that is a couple of year away.

I googled "Twisted X Boots" and came up with nothing.

It's look that they will pay $20,000 per employee, how many do you have? BTW what's the name of your company?
$20k an employee that would be nice. The name of my company is Websierra Internet Solutions:
http://www.websierra.com
We currently have 20 employees.
Anon #6, THE ABOVE POST'S EXPLAIN WHAT IS WRONG WITH BIG BUSINESS!

It's OK wizzard. Things are not always what they appear to be. That is what scares me about Twisted X Boots. I hope they are for real.
