The editor of D Magazine just posted this on Twitter with the caption of "Dangling modifier of the day."  Lord knows I can't see it. You? Teach us.

It appears that the two students ingested a cocktail of something that consisted of both drugs and their 22-yr-old friend.

I think "jailed" is the only modifier. It could describe the friend or the teens.

(The real answer is, "I have no idea.")

They ingested a cocktail consisting of drugs and a 22 year old male. I prefer 20 year old scotch, but to each his own.

The opening phrase attaches itself to the noun that follows it - "authorities".
So, technically, it means what Katy said....

It makes it sound like the "teens" were in jail not the suspect who did not call police.
