I will assume the dog escaped from the kennel or vet where it was boarded, or got away from the people that were asked to look after it carefully. Surely such a beloved dog would not have been carelessly left behind, right?
If your dog is utd on shots and gets out and lands in the shelter it won't have to worry about getting distemper or kennel cough. This is a beautiful story. All owners should go looking for their dogs instead of shrugging their shoulders and thinking oh well guess he won't come back. I say better off dead than with such an owner or getting hit by a car.

Well I'm betting they just left him in the yard with a $20 and told him to run to Whataburger if he got hungry...

They better get it to a vet quick. If its been at the WC animal Shelter it probably has distemper and a host of other ailments.
