Never Been A Big Fan Of Doonesbury . . .

. . . either because (1) it's over my head most of the time, or (2) not funny.

In any event, he takes on the Texas legislature's sonogram-before-an-abortion law this week but some newspapers are boycotting it.

I don't get it. Don't most women get a sonogram when they are pregnant?

I don't get it either.

Maybe, it's dumbed down for the lefties. They'll get it! LMAO

While most pregnant women get abdominal sonograms, Texas has mandated that woman seeking abortions must endure vaginal sonograms. State mandated invasive procedures are wrong.

Remote you got it didn't you? LMAO

Women who make the difficult decision to have an abortion don't need the state government invading their privacy by requiring them to undergo this procedure. Think about it - the state government is sticking its nose in an individual's personal business.

This is not only Texas, but several states are issuing this mandate, most with vaginal sonograms, which are more expensive and invasive, and not needed. I would be all in favor of such a law if the father of said baby had to have a urethral probe and a rectal exam to confirm the child does not other potential problems. My guess is sticking something up a man's penis and ass would be viewed as to invasive...

11:28, can you tell me where I can find the legal requirement that the sonogram be performed vaginally? I looked at a copy of HB15, but it appears to only define "sonogram" as "the use of ultrasonic waves for
diagnostic or therapeutic purposes, specifically to monitor an
unborn child."

I'm not so much into killing unborn babies (or born ones for that matter), but that's pretty funny!

Republicans = the party of small government and individual rights... Unless it relates to something they don't agree with.

Here we have an unfunded big-government program that isn't medically necessary and isn't requested by the patients. It doesn't save us money in the short or long run.

There is no legal, political or economic rationale for this law. The "ONLY" basis for this law is from a fundamentalist biblical perspective.

Texas is now a Theocracy!

Startle gram sucks!

I disagree. The only reason for this law is to please idiots with imaginary friends in order to secure their vote.

The "secret" is in plain site but no one in this state, or the country for that matter, notices it.

Christian fundamentalism is no different than Islamic fundamentalism. They both spring from the need to control others.

They need a cartoon depicting the stupidness of the City of Rhome. They are storing Junk cars at the Fire Station, but write tickets if you have a car you are restoring in your driveway. They have a statement on the city website about the dangers of these junk vehicles, ( Antifreeze leaking, small children playing on them , etc. ) but then these holier than thou clowns on the council let them store JUNK at our beloved Fire Department property!

Murder!

1:09... Rhome is writing tickets for "junk" vehicles? Since when? There are numerous "junk" vehicles (non-running, non-registered) in my neighborhood that have been sitting in driveways for months (or years) with nothing done by the city.

(Oh, crap! I just admitted I live in Rhome!)

(Oh, double crap! I probably just inadvertently turned this thread into a discussion about Rhome, its politics, its shortcomings as a "city," etc. Sorry, folks!)

I wonder how many pro-choice men and women would not be here right now if, back "in the day", their mothers would have had easy access to eliminating them. Not sure what I'm arguing, just something I think about often with respect to this issue. You have to NOT be aborted in order to grow up and be in favor of aborting someone else.

I tried to make a copy of the cartoon strip by spreading Silly Putty over my screen, but it didn't work.

I don't get it.

4:29 Since Roe v. Wade was 1973, many on this blog were born after the decision during a time in which abortion has been more accessible. Prior to that, abortion was legal in many states, even though not so in Texas.

Given the fact that the planet has now topped 7 Billion, and current projections show a continued increase in population, with the global population expected to reach between 7.5 and 10.5 billion by 2050. Legalized abortion has not led to a decrease in the population. We (in the US and the world) are not running out of people and the strain on the planet to supply food and water to all those people will only continue to grow as well.

Some believe that the planet has already reached its carrying capacity and that famine and starvation will begin to increase at alarming rates.

I have seen those vehicles too, and they are pieces of shit! I was told by a cop to cover my truck project with a tarp to keep the nosey asses and busy bodies from seeing it and being offended because some of these city officials think it ruins the "trophy club" atmosphere of aristocracy that the town gives off. I complied and now I have a beautiful green tarp. They did not write a ticket , just told me to cover it. They were nice about it. They liked it and wanted to see my work.

Hell, I live in Rhome and most of the vehicles that are registered are junky pieces of crap! Some even have the city logo !

I'm okay with this as soon as they pass a law for men that says that before they get an RX for Viagra, they must first provide an affidavit from their sexual partner saying they are impotent, and are forced to receive an anal probe inserted approx 4-5 inches to make sure that it's not their prostate. Then they must submit to a stress test to make sure that they won't traumatize the poor person that they might kill over on while in the midst of performance. Then the pharmacist holds the prescription for at least 48 hours so the man can think about it before he can actually follow through with it.

Why mothers would want to kill their own children is sick.

Yo, newspapers should run Doonesbury on their editorial pages. It's a political cartoon, just in serialized form. It has no business being on the same page with Peanuts and Blondie, no matter what its topic-of-the-week is.

Everything has at least 2 points of view. The Republicans are looking at it from the unborn child's point of view. The Dems are looking at it from the selfish woman's point of view. She made a mistake and the child will pay for it.

If you want better city vehicles, pay up on the taxes. Where do you think the money comes from?

Erectile dysfunction is God's divine plan for taking the weak out of the procreation cycle, it is unnatural to interfere with God's plan of keeping men from procreating who God has selected as no longer viable to reproduce based on the inability to obtain and maintain an erection. The Holy Bible speaks clearly of men in advanced age being able to procreate if it is to serve God's ultimate purpose. I am shocked that the Christians could stand silently and allow the ungodly interference in God's almighty plan be interrupted with the distribution of such ED drugs. Using these prescription for erectile dysfunction is a slap in the face of God himself. A good holy man would accept his fate and go about his business without a whimper or complaint praising God for his blessings.

The tax money comes from the sale of ED drugs sold in Rhome convenience stores.
