Real News: Proposed Legislature Redistricting Map Has Major Impact On Wise County

If I've got my facts right (always a dicey proposition), Wise County very possibly will be in a new state legislative house district (#88) joining a bunch of west Texas conservative (and slightly populated) counties.  This also means that Rep. Phil King would no longer represent us. (The horror!)

And since District 88 used to surround Amarillo with the current representative being moved to District 87, it would become an "open seat" meaning there will be no incumbent in the next election.

(If this makes the Messenger's Update, I want full credit or I'll unleash a team of lawyers bigger than those involved in Motorcycle Guy vs. Fed Ex. In the meantime, I'll credit the Star-Telegrams's Bud Kennedy who provided this info to me directly. Follow him on Twitter.)

What?!? They're proposing a house district that runs from Brownfield all the way to Decatur?? That's crazy!

Such an odd district.

Did King ever really represent Wise County.

Following Bud on Twitter is not nearly as much fun as following Bud's FaceBook. Bud Kennedy is a really supper nice guy, he maybe the last of the old school gentlemen, however, his FB updates are, frequently, hand grenades. You would not believe some of the throw downs on Bud's FB page.

BTW...The ONLY reason I bother with the FWST is to read Bud's stuff.

Philip the King not representing Wise County due to redistricting?

This is just too sad for words.

7:35: If that was a question the answer is no.

I am always amazed by what comes out of the Texas Legislature redistricting computers every 10 years. Not.

Not likely the Messenger will credit you. Trust me, I used to work there — they desperately want to be known as a paper that has more credibility than this web site. And they also freak out if you scoop them on something.

In fact, I recall a senior staffer there once sending out a memo about your website scooping them on something. As I recall, it said "We got scooped by Barry Green. C'mon — Barry Green, of ALL people????? We can do better than to be scooped by the likes of him."

"Supper" is correctly spelled, however, misapplied. The word I intended to use was "super" and in my haste and lack of attention hit the "p" key, twice. Like I have pointed out in another comment, I suck at, simultaneously, talking on the phone and typing.

In Bud's case, "supper" may be appropriate. He is a restaurant critic for the Startlegram. He's never boring, always entertaining.

Evidence again that ALL politicans pretty much suck.

Sheesh.

After looking at this map, is any wonder that the politicians in Austin can't get anything straight?

Cooke and Terry counties in the same district?

You can't be serious!!!
