It really seems like there's no way to keep idiots from having guns without stripping the rights of responsible Americans who use them for hunting. Bummer.
Can you imagine being that little girl's brother? Rough road ahead remembering that awful scene...
Also, it's pretty shocking that he had those cameras in the house just to prove he was a good father. That one kind of backfired.
He needs to go to prison for a long time and be forever separated from his other children. Also, I sincerely doubt that death was accidental. He was just sick enough to make it look that way.
Horrible!!! If the guy pleaded guilty, why in God's name did they make the jury watch the video? I swear if I were a jurist I would refuse to watch it, even listen to it. I would have to leave the jury box. That is a terrible thing for anyone to see!!! There is a special place in hell for people like him. God help the little brother to the poor girl. And God help us all from people like that horrible man. I don't care for death penalty; but this man deserves death and then hell!!
My guess is he had been molesting the girl and so she wouldn't snitch on him he lined the kids up for the fake gun 'safety' lesson and then blew her brains out with the video to 'prove' it wasn't a straight up murder. In his sick mind the manslaughter conviction and subsequent probation would be better than jail and lifelong sex registry. You know I'm right.
These children were up until 4 AM the night before playing with their uncles. They awoke from their late aftenoon nap hungry & asking for food. Duke wanted to put on a gun show. What this account left out was how Duke Watrous slipped in his daughter's blood as he ran to grab the guns & lock them in a safe away from police after shooting his daughter. No trying to render aid to his victim - even to turn her head so she wouldn't choke on her blood - it was about saving his own hide.
He wouldn't cooperate with the 911 operator at all. Instead, he was grabbing bath towels to clean up blood, asked 9 yr. old boy to put a towel over the brain matter on the floor before cops came. He wouldn't cooperate with cops when they arrived either. His brothers left him an hour or two before the shooting - he either wasn't drunk or they were too plastered to notice he was. He had a 1 year old in the house too. He had another loaded gun on another table. If he was so drunk, would he really have been so occupied with trying to save his own domestically violent behind?
The sad thing is the ex-wife tried to tell CPS what Duke was really like with Ashley & other children - she was looked upon as the "bitter" exwife instead of the child being rescued from her death trap.
Duke offered the boy to trade the loaded .44 magnum for one of his Christmas toys before the shooting. This guy is a monster & alcohol is not an excuse for terrorizing & killing a child. Duke tried to "act" drunk during questioning, but I don't believe this liar for a minute. His actions speak volumes.
Within days of the shooting he transferred his successful business www.MoveCo.net to his brother - it's now an LLC under his brothers name. Was he sheltering assets? Forget supporting the other remaining children - it's all about Duke. He even hired a high profile jury consultant firm to pull out all the stops in his defense. Yeah, when it comes to saving Duke's behind - he'll spare no expense, he'll take 100% interest - he'll give it 150%. But when it comes to children? Oh, they're dispensable for his enjoyment of seeing the fear on their face. The boy said his sister had her, "scared face" on - which means the poor little girl had been scared many times before -------- by ------- someone..........

Probably harder to watch.
I'm against the death penalty, but yeah some folks just need a good ole fashioned dead killin'.

Why people do those kind of things to children is something I will never understand. It makes me sad.
This is wrong. He should be locked up for the rest of his life.

No 4:10 He should be put to death!!
Could they have charged him with injury to a child so he could have gotten a longer sentence.
I wish I had an hour with this guy, I guarantee I could scare him... right before he took his last breath.
