Civil Trial In Decatur This Morning

All I know is that it involves a collision between a Fed Ex truck and a motorcycle. It at least looks like a big deal (there's a krillion lawyers and legal assistants), but I don't remember the incident at all.  And I'm famous for tracking every motorcycle accident in the Southwest proper.  (There's a chance the accident didn't happen in Wise County because the civil venue rules are so screwy that the case could still be tried here.)

Fed Ex must have brought in all the lawyers they could muster, somebody is prolly trying to go for some big time money. Leads me to think it must have been the Fed Ex driver's fault.

Don't let Obammy know there is such a thing as a krillion.

Were drugs and alcohol involved?

1128: This isn't a criminal trial. Last week the same lawyers were there for pretrial. There was no dispute that the truck driver ran over the person on the motorcycle--the dispute was not over whether the guy is dead, how he died, or how dead he was. FedEx was claiming that the truck had the right to swing into the motorcycle's lane to make a turn.

Ok this is off topic, but I am a retired school teacher and I just heard about what has happened to the little girls that are cheerleaders over in Bridgeport. They have always had to be passing to tryout, this year they decided that passing was not enough and they counted their grades as part of their actual tryout. I understand that many of this years girls did not make it back because of this change. I am also told they did not know about this change until their grades were already final. Seems they used First Semester grades, so the girls had no way of knowing this was going to have any effect on them. As a retired teacher, I am shocked! If this really happened, you folks that teach in Bridgeport better realize if they will do this to the kidos, you could be next! I just heard this, but it was from a very reliable source. When did it become ok to change the rules like that on any group of kidos in any Texas school. I'm in Decatur, but I have never heard of such poor judgement from a cheer coach or whoever did this.

civil venue rules...plaintiff can file in following counties: where incident occurred, where defendant person lives, where defendant entity is based.

Hey 12:30, get used to it. I worked in Decatur for several years and EVERY principal I worked for (from Enis to Reaves) made up the rules as they went along. It did not matter what the issue, the decision could not be rendered until it was known who was involved. And that form of management applied to faculty and students alike.

Who cares about cheerleading? Oh my, that's a priority? E-D-U-C-A-T-I-O-N, ever heard of it?

I just hope the motorcyclist wasn't carrying a banjo.

Shouldn't little girls be making the best grades possible.....regardless of what is coming next semester, next year etc.

Take care of grades and nearly everything else falls into line...from discipline to rewards.

May there be a "special place in hell" for the man (and yes it was probably a man)who invented cheerleaders. Consider all the wasted time, tears, money.

12:30 - I have no problem with them using their grades to include in the judging. They are representing the school in the end. 1:24 has it right. School is for education!!

Was it a motorcycle load of cheerleaders?

Suing Fedex ought to be like suing the railroad: venue is proper wherever you can hear that lonesome whistle blow...

I agree 100%!
Not fair to change the rules on kids when they did not even know it happened.
You should go back into education!
Seems like all the good ones get out as soon as possible.

I heard next year if you can't run a 4.3 40 and recite the periodic table you will not make the Bulls football team.
Oh wait, that seems like a bad idea if we are gonna beat Decatur, and you know we are gonna beat Decatur.

12:30 I heard the same story, its true the girls had no idea they had would need all A's to be cheerleaders.
Royal Mess that should be fixed.
Just my opinon and thats worth what you paid for it!

Oh, one of those trucks with a sticker that says "I make wide turns" and he turned from the outside lane and turned into the motorcycle. It was an accident, the motorcyclist should not get anymore money than what insurance covers, period, dot
There should be caps for judgements!!!!

shut up about the freaking little cheerleaders, boohoo. This link was for the Fed Ex civil trial.

Does any school choose their football team, basketball team, track team, etc. by grades? Yes, they need to be passing. Are the other teams required any more than that?

Did the package make it on time?

1:24 and 4:19

School is for Education, could not agree more, but what here do you not understand.
These kids had their December grades used as part of a cheerleader tryout in March.
They had no idea that was to be done. My daughter is a solid B & C student, never been in danger of failing.
So, if your ok with that you are really really dumb!
Might want to go back for some more education.
Nobody should be scored on anything without knowing about it.
If you want to change the rules, fine..change them...but make them effective for next year!

Mr J. Daniels, BRILLIANT..

All jokes aside, there is actually quite a bit of schlorship money out there for cheerleaders. But most schools want you to have cheered all 4 years...
Sad to see these Senior cheated out of potential schlorship money.

I agree with 9:45.
Cheer leader loonies, please restrict your comments to letters to the editor at the Bridgeport Index. SERIOUSLY

Maybe your B/C student needs to work on her grades instead of cart wheels...

Anonymous said...

Screw grades. Cheerleaders ought to be able to cook! But I bet they don't even offer Home Economics any more. No wonder we are going to hell in a handbag.

Anonymous said...

Enough about the dang little cheerleaders. They need to be reading books not shaking their butts!! Kids today just want to be exibitionists. Wait till they hit the real life, and find out their grandios ideas were only the fiction of their imagination!!!

This has become an amusing thread to read. In the long run, your poor baby isn't queen bee of High School. She lost a peg or two in the popularity contest.
