This whole story, which broke a couple of weeks ago, is very vague.
But the latest development is here.

They need to quit wasting their money on caging people on weed charges, maybe then they'd have money to keep jails running properly for real criminals.
I guess Barney left the cell keys hanging on the wall again during the FBI inspection. That, or Aunt Bee threw a fit about having to cook lunch for 60 inmates.
10:22-sounds like you're absolutely clueless. Outta 60+ inmates, im pretty sure they're not all in custody on "weed" charges. I would assume to keep a jail running correctly it doesn't necessarily take a significant amount of money, just the right people. If you're talking sexual favors and drugs?..., whatta you expect?
Shutting down the jail without approval from the County Commissioners or before the grand jury had time to indict is what anyone who knew Cunningham would expect him to do. It is over acting!
Montague County and the new sheriff are going to have a lot of disagreements for the next four years. I agree we should be glad that he is no longer our problem.
Now we will be watching the new Precinct 1 constable and what he will do!
I agree on the Paul Cunningham thing. Wise County is better off with his exit from the county. Hopefully, the Commissioners will be more careful who they hire in the future. My dealings with the man was that he is very arrogant!
Well, since he was the guy who passed me like a bat out of hell going to Saint Jo that one day, I sure didn't vote for him. I know Montague County is in a bad way, but I do tend to agree our new Sheriff might be grandstanding. I think I might just start going to Commissioner's Court sometimes. It could get really interesting....
Heck, at the last Montague County CC Court, they wouldn't let the Historical Commission Representative hang the cowhide up on the elevator shaft - the cowhide I paid $50 to get my brand included on for historic purposes, since my family has been doing that for a long time. But since the guy who was asking to hang the cowhide with the brands on the elevator shaft was the ex-mayor of the now unincorporated town of Sunset, I'm guessing they should have picked another guy to ask them boys that.
Montague County - gotta love it - home of, among other things:
Home of Hound Dog Conway - the Montague County Sheriff who captured Henry Lee Lucas.....
Home of some of the last Indian Raids in the State of Texas, as best I can tell from several publications, although Zavala County tends to dispute that.....
Home of the Forestburg Meteorite as discovered by Willard Freeman in 1957 - well to nitpick, it was actually found around New Harp, but Forestburg secretly annexed New Harp way back when.......that was right after they sucked up Uz.
You know, I just read the Bowie News article about his "Riding for the Brand" bullshiate, and I'm thinking he's already done some copyright infringement.......I wonder if he asked Louis L'Amour for permission?
I'm just make some bets:
1. He has a heart attack and dies before he completes his term......
2. He dies in a horrible high-speed head-on collision on one of those twisty Montague County roads, paved or otherwise - those gravel roads are DEADLY, and we don't have many wide-shouldered paved roads around here either.....
3. He resigns before he completes his term because he can't deal with the stingy-arsed Montague County Commissioner's Court because he can't get the dough he needs to repair the f^cked up jail problem.
Do u think that the Montague Sheriff was forced to hire a Chief Deputy like Leroy had to employee. Save a dog at the road park and the four county leaders pick who will lead your jail and support operations. Then when things go bad "You are the Last Man Standing."
Sounds like a bunch of disgruntled frequent fliers to the Montague County Hilton are pissed on here because someone is actually doing what needs to be done. It is jail not a vacation. If you don't like it, then don't get arrested.
10:19 The new sheriff is grandstanding by calling in Joe Duty to take pictures before the grand jury finishes their job. No law enforcement officer would call in the press to take pictures of the evidence at the crime scene! Sorry, but the problems probably go back a long time and how could the public officials in Montague County NOT know what was going on.
I'm sure the county love the new sheriff for bringing negative national attention to the problem! At least he made the news.
Taking a low key approach and helping get to the bottom of who was behind all of it is the correct action.
I'm sure Cunningham was making points with Wise County by filling up their new jail at a cost to the Montague County tax payers.
7:40, You are obviously one of the frequent fliers. I think it was a good decision to have the media come in and see what was going on. At least it gives outsiders and people with no clue as to what was ctualy going on inside. You can see the inmates ran the jail instead of the staff running the jail. It kinda gives you a little insight into the ongoing situation. Do you really think Cunningham did not consult with investigating authorities prior to the media? I guess since your daily visits to the Hilton are placed on hold and ou are not able to obtain your jail ade meth is pissing you off. Just run on down to Wise County and get you some meth since we now have a District Attorney who will prosecute YOUR ARSE if you get caught and not give you deferred on top of deferred. I still say good call Cunningham.
"Taking a low key approach and helping get to the bottom of who was behind all of it is the correct action.
Winner - 7:40AM.
11:18AM is just an arse or has his/her head stuck up Cunningham's butt, from the looks of their posts. Oh, and I AM NOT A FREQUENT FLYER, never have been, never will be, so put on your flack jacket and go swat your dog, you potentially fat f^ck wanna be cop.
6:55 must be the ex-sheriff's lover do to trying to keep him under the radar. To late for that. Looks like a few felony charges are coming that way. And no I am not stuck up Cunningham's butt, just looking at things from a high profile side which is the way it should be done. Glad to know people don't want to know what their tax dollars are being used for: Recliners in cells, DVD players, all the fine things your in-laws love to have while at the home away from home.

10:22 is one that had his bond lowered so he could bond out
sign me up i work cheap
Glad to see Paul Cunningham is out of Wise County and now officially Montague County's problem..........such a horse's ass to deal with!

I can honestly say that every time I met Mr. Cunningham he was respectable and gracious. But then again I am not in "the know" of the county.
I hope he straightens out the prison system in Montague. What a way to take office.
Paul Cunningham=MAJOR PRICK!
I just hope I have the opportunity to tell him how certain unnecessary actions of his once caused me tremendous personal hardship!!!!
10:31, you must have a limited number of dealings with Cunningham, because he's always "respectable and gracious" at first.
He's a different story when you get to know him a little better!!!!
The voters of Montague County will soon realize that!

Oh, and birthplace of John Lanier.

Thank u Barry for that...
We're Drugs or Alcohol involved?

All I KNOW about this situation is that Wise County's sheriff is WAY hawter than Montague County's sheriff.
Let's have a shout out for Sheriff Walker!
*;)

I'd put Kevin Benton up against Walker any day, MzCreep. He's taller too!
