Anyone is free to go get a better job, including one that pays a whole lot of money. This guy was, at one time, pooping in diapers, trying to learn his ABCs, picking goobers out of his nose, and busting at the seams to get his first car or first kiss just like everyone else. Maybe he made better choices in life to get where he is today. Maybe he had a better support system. But years ago, he was no more guaranteed the job he has now than any other college kid from that time. Unfortunate that those who choose to have babies too young, or do meth, or flunk out of school, or be couch potatoes have no way to improve, are stuck for the rest of their lives in dead end jobs, and so become dependent on UNEARNED support from those that make better choices.
He only got about 1/2 of 1% (.5%) of the profit his company created. I do not think this is exorbitant. His company created $9 Billion in profit. I think his stockholders are very happy with his leadership.
What percentage of his income do you think he will be sending to the IRS come April 15, 2007, as compared to the common man?
i suspect he will be paying around 40% to the IRS, about the same as me. which blows. big time.and i agree with 4:15 and 4:24. the guy apparently earned it, and i can't imagine the owners of his company (i.e., shareholders, including people like us with 401(k)s, etc) will have a problem with rewarding him for his work.
According to the IRS, this person will be in the top 1% of tax payers that will pay 34% of the tax burden. Why should he have to pull your weight just because he is succesful and you aren't?
I prefer gold, silver and land, not stock options. I wouldn't turn up my nose at the chunk of change he got tho.
As compared to the unspoken regressive tax system we are currently utilizing, Barry?
It is a WELCOME privilege to NEED to annually pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes.I TRULY hope some day EVERYONE makes the life choices that ALLOWS them to be REQUIRED to pay an OUTRAGEOUS sum in taxes (so long as that is THEIR goal). For starters; people who annually pay more in taxes than the median income of a dozen people on average WORK more than 40 hours a week and most likely work 60+ hours a week.
Do you, MzChief?Did you, MzChief?Do you, MzChief?A simple yes or no will suffice. You can even bold/caps them if you wish.
shut up, mzchief
At the least...at the very goddamned least, raise the fucking minimum wage.
TX SHARON 8:35 PM: What wage should it be raised to? At $5.15, it's not enough. At $7.00 it won't be enough. At $10.00 it won't be enough. When it comes to money, there is NEVER "enough." Maybe we should shoot for $20 per hour.Of course, then a Sonic hamburger will be $15.00, and a candy bar will be $10, so $20 won't be enough. And Sonic and 7-Eleven will have to fire employees because they can't afford to keep them.A "minimum wage" will never be enough. How much less than "enough" we're willing to force privately-owned businesses to pay is the point where people differ.
Thank you Txsharon. It is amazing to me that people always think that everyone has the same life choices and if you are not rich...then you must be doing something wrong. That is just ridiculous. Not everyone is college material. Not everyone is given lots of money from mom and dad to start their own business. It is not the people that are f*cked up...IT IS the system! Wordkyle....minimum wage was initially set up to keep people above the poverty line. Minimum wage should be raised so it serves its purpose.
Hey Sheehan, Isn't the government in your life enough already? If you owned a business, wouldn't having to pay your employees more mean that you would take a cut in your pay or maybe have to lay off people to compensate? You liberals just don't get it. That would make the cost of everything go up and then you would bitch about that. Take a fucking economics class.
I want to know who the dumbass is who thinks that welfare payments are enough for someone to survive on. Guess what? They are not! Nobody is sitting around living off of welfare payments. That is impossible.
9:37 get a clue. If you can't afford to pay your employees a living wage - close your business down and find something else to do. Many peolple that are supposedly successful get that way by exploiting others.
9:37 You are such an idiot! The government, under your moronic prez, is a LOT more in my life than it ever has been before and I don't like it one damn bit. Raise the minimum wage! You selfish bastards!
Sheehan, How is it more in your life? Start your own business and pay your employees whatever they deserve. Then file for bankruptcy because you cannot survive. You are so simple minded. Let the market place decide, not the government. Take a fucking class
9:45, Why don't you start a business?
Hello! Can you say HOMELAND SECURITY? For starters.Raise the minimum wage!
Hey Dipshit SHeehan, Can you say 9/11?
Raise your IQ and maybe you can get a better job that pays more than minimum
You are morally repugnant. Think of someone besides yourself.Raise the minimum wage for Christ's sake!
Let's see if you can answer these questions. What would you raise the minimum wage to? Have we been attacked by Al Qaeda since 9/11? If you started your own business, would you do it to give stupid poor people a decent living or would you do it to make money?
For Christ's sake? I don't think he needs the money.
A free market economy is not the answer to everything dumbass. This system exploits people to benefit others. 10:41 You are an idiot. You said "would you do it to give poor stupid people a decent living or would you do it to make money." People that think like you are the problem with society. When someone is only out to get rich at all costs, while exploiting others....that is a problem and requires government intervention!!!!
Then what would you raise it to Einstein? When I sold my business, I made a healthy profit. And I paid my employees alot more than minimum wage. I did not exploit them. They were lined up to work for me and I could choose the people with the best qualifications, you wouldn't have even got an interview.
10:58, People that think like me are the ones that make this economy work. No one owes you a job. Get a good education and make something of yourself. If you settle for peanuts, that's exactly what you get. Whenever I ask a liberal about making the rich pay more in taxes and ask them what is the definition of rich they don't have an answer. Most people that go into business for themselves do it for just that reason, themselves. Not so that you can make a comfortable living while they are the ones that took the risk to start the business.
Hell yeah, 10:58! People like him, who are devoid of any morals or ethics, are the reason the government has to get involved. But, he's not really a player in the big time money world, he just pretends to be. Any smart business man knows that, in order to be truly successful, you have to take good care of your employees. Look at Costco. I doesn't matter what he thinks. Americans have shown that they reject his kind. The new Congress will raise minimum wage and I hope he chokes on it. :)Raise the minimum wage!
I know plenty of ignorant people making real good money in the oilfield. People that I went to high school with that couldn't even pass the minimum skill level tests are making 20 and 30 $ per hour. At the present time if you don't have a job or think you don't make enough money then you will never make it. More opportunity now than ever before in wise county.
TxSheehan, I knew you couldn't answer 3 simple questions. And you can't debate this topic based on feelings or emotions, which is what most liberals try to do.
Hey Sheepshit Sheehan, Are you going to Pelosi's 4 day lickfest gala? Why is she charging a thousand dollars a ticket? Why not $5.75 so that all the little mind numbed people that voted her in can attend? Go start your own blog. Oh wait, you did but no one reads it. Kind of like that sausage factory Air America Radio that went bankrupt. I am sure Costco will let you off so that you can attend Pelosi's party but I doubt they will give you a raise so that you can afford it.
Raising the minimum wage will do NOTHING for the poor or those who SLAVE for minimum wage. I have friends who own businesses NONE of their employees work for minimum wage. The lady who vaccums, dusts and cleans the bathrooms of my home makes $10.00 and hour as does the man who mows and edges my law. Mouse works as a baker and makes $10.OO an hour while taking a 12 hour load at university. For those of you who have MISSED Ms. Mousey she is returning TODAY from her CRUISE. ************************************As for it taking MONEY to get through university. GET REAL. I lost my parents when I was a teenager. I had an ACADEMIC scholarship which did NOT cover room and board. I could NOT get a loan because I was 17 and did NOT have anyone who could sign for a loan. I ALWAYS had to work three jobs to make ends meet WHILE taking 12-18 hours a semester. I ALWAYS made certain to have a job at a restaurant so that I could have a meal during my shift and eat once a day. I could NOT afford heating oil in the winter. Have you ANY idea how difficult it is to shower in a house that is 40 degrees? My point is that IF you WANT to make it YOU will have to make PERSONAL sacrifices. Incidentally, EVERY craptastic job I had while at university was for minimum wage. The ONLY time I made MORE than minimum wage during university was as a bartender and when I modeled.************************************As for people who are NOT university material and I know SEVERAL , get TRAINING. Become a plumber, electrician, mechanic, dental assistance, medical assistant, imaging tech, medical tech, Computer Geek or Real Estate agent. More importantly GET OUT OF WISE COUNTY. There are MORE and better paying jobs in D/FW than in Wise County. It truly does NOT cost more to live in D/FW so long as you STAY OUT OF THE MALLS.************************************To anonyNOTHING 9:45...Let me get this straight, YOU are saying it is BETTER to have NO job then NOT make enough at that one job! NOTHING PERSONAL but that is WHACKED. If it had NOT been for craptastic minimum wage jobs I would NEVER have made it through university. One more thought about the SMALL business owner; it is MY experience that SMALL business owners tend to do a MUCH better job of FAIRLY paying workers than do LARGE/GLOBAL companies...such as McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Sears, Holiday Inn, Macy's and such.************************************To anonyNOTHING 7:45...ABSOLUTELY!
a 15% flat tax would soak him for 8010000 bucks. don t you think thats enough. or should we get half of it you poor wont have to pay any thay way they keep voting for you(dem)
I hope anonyrodent does not kill anyone on her/his/its cruise causing yet another unsolved murder on a cruise ship. We all know she/he/it has homicidal tendencies.
after dealing with min wage earners for all of my adult life ive decided they need a pay cut
9:31 PM: The minimum wage originally applied to less than half the workforce. Now it applies to 90% of private sector employees."Artificial minimum wages create unemployment, mainly among lower-skilled workers, younger and inexperienced workers, and workers from minority groups….This should not be surprising. Making anything more expensive almost invariably leads to fewer purchases. This includes labor." - Dr. Thomas Sowell, senior fellow in economicas, Hoover InstituteAlso, according to the Census Bureau's 2006 Statistical Abstract, there are more than three times as many workers below the minimum wage as are at the minimum wage. Most low-skilled workers won’t benefit at all from an increase in the minimum wage, but they WILL suffer from the increased prices resulting from higher labor costs that will be passed on to consumers.
If you pay them more money, they will SPEND more money. The Economic Policy Institute estimates that one adult with two children will need to earn at least $14 an hour to barely be above the poverty line.
Anon 1:35: If you raise the minimum wage, minimum wage workers will HAVE to spend more money. The Economic Policy Institute is a Liberal group whose focus is on the redistribution of wealth, so they've got a built-in bias.According to the Dept of Health and Human services, the poverty line for a family of 3 is $16,600. $14 an hour equals $29,120 annually, almost twice that.
12:33 That's funny! Lets face face" these peoples aints brain surgons". I think we (society) generally pay people for what their worth.
Oh shit! Whoops on the face face
skid boy, you must be near starving. That's funny! Lets face face" these peoples aints brain surgons". I think we (society) generally pay people for what their worth.did you mean face facts?did you mean people or people's or peoples' or...did you mean ain't or ants or...did you mean surgeon or sturgeon or...did you mean they're worth?
