Those interested need to look at the " Texas Office of Court Administration" website and run a Municipal Monthly Activity Report for Wise County towns. For September 2005- October 2006Decatur 4460 tickets = $1,012,125Bridgeport 3705 tickets = $479,708Runaway Bay 2095 tickets = $295,586Rhome 1551 tickets = 241,440Boyd 671 tickets = 57,011
What a ridiculous way to measure it, since there is no correlation between the size of a town and the number of speeders going through it. Any high school stats teacher, or even student, could recognize that. The proper way to measure it would be the number of tickets, factor in the number of officers patrolling and approximate time spent watching for speeders, and the total number of vehicles travelling that road. Local population has NOTHING to do with it.
I just hope the mayor protem of Rhome did'nt see how many fish got up to Decatur without getting cleaned. What is amazing is that Decatur gave 3000 more tickets then Rhome on the same highway
Something is wrong with the numbers in the first post. Runaway Bay supposedly got $295,000 in one month. That would be nearly $3 million for a year. The entire budget for RAB is less than $2 million a year. State law limits fine income to 1/3 of the City's budget. So where are the numbers off?
Just another way the local and state governments have found to fleece citizens in the name of public safety! Some towns are just better at it than others.
4:48....$295,586 for Runaway Bay is for the year. 7:04 a/m post says Sept 2005 to October 2006 (12 mos.)
4:48, how about the fact that some drivers are just dumb. Don't speed and you won't get "fleeced". P.S...don't shoot anybody dead and you won't get charged with murder. Don't stick a fork in your earhole, and you won't have a fork stuck in your earhole.
I agree some drivers are just dumb! However, I myself along with several other people I know have received tickets in the past for 1 to 5mph over the speed limit. I was not endangering the public! As a matter of fact I have never been in one single accident in over 18 years of driving, and yes it is fleecing when a local government turns ticket writing into big business!
Comparing murder and speeding is just an innacurate analogy! You know the old preverbial apples to oranges thing. If a policeman were to witness you shoot someone dead, like how they witness you speeding, then there would be no discretion involved; you would be arrested and charged. When an officer gives you a ticket he uses his own discretion to determine if you were a danger to the public and proceeds as he sees fit. You should probably remove the fork from your earhole now!!!
Y'all are all morons. That news story is a figment of Fox 4's imagination. Cities keep very little from each citation. As a matter of fact, the fines collected barely cover the cost of the officers doing the patrol as stated by the Town of Westlake represenative. It is not a money making situation. As a police officer, anyone who says they have received a citation for 1 mph over the limit is exagerating. Show me a copy of the citation and I will buy you a steak lunch. EXPENSIVE steak lunch. Just another way for the liberal media to slam law enforcement. The reporter who covered this story probably got his first ticket the other day and was sore. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Did anyone consider that 3 of the top 13 has the same state highway as a main traffic artery? Might mean something.
The cops suck and their bosses suck farts out of car seats ! Speeders amount to two thirds of the city's revenue . So of course you want to get the really fast people but the slow ones make money too.
The Mayor Pro tem of Rhome got a petition of over 100 names from the citizens of Rhome telling him they do not like, nor trust him. He is a Jackass! He wants more revenue from tickets and the Police Chief is more interested in protecting the citizens. The crooked city council in Rhome has their own agenda and does NOT do what the citizens of Rhome want.
