Why is a fire marshall totin' a gun anyway? Does Decatur authorize him to do so? I understand he is also Runaway Bay's fire marshall. Do they authorize armed fire guys? Who/what else has this guy shot? Who hires these guys?
I know Mr. Gholson personally. He is not the type of person who would be cruel to animals for fun. I am sure he had a good reason. Maybe you should all put your money where your mouth is and build a much needed animal shelter for Wise County.
Since Mr. Gholson is a retired state trooper(thus carrying), the brotherhood will look the other way regardless of the reason he did it. Eh! Good for the Runaway Bay Police Chief who is NEW on the job(2 weeks out). Guess someone out there has some tennis or otherwise ba--s. They had a pants chasing council woman, a bent Police Chief, an incompetent Fire Chief, drug dealers, child molesters. What else can you say about the little rich burg on the lake??
It is just a dog not a human. I live out in the country and people drop dogs off by my house all of the time. I have raised a few, given a few away, and shot the rest. The shelters won't take them, I don't/can't take care of all of them, and I have small children whom I make sure are protected.
To anonyNOTHING 8:22... In RAB there is ALWAYS the possibility of drugs and/or alcohol being a part of the equation. The anal retentive/elderly citizens of RAB give plumbers/carpenters/electricians unmerciful grief for parking a company truck in their own driveway, so you can bet your last dime a rock truck was NOT involved in the shooting.
I could care less about a dog being shot. It is not all that news worthy in my opinion, but I guess it is a slow week for Fox 4!
I do care, however, that Fox 4 News has made a terrible blunder and needs to be responsible enough to correct it. The Fire Marshal of Decatur (Mr. Deroy Bennett) had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with shooting the animal. However, he has taken his fair share of grief behind this.
I would suggest the reporters at Fox 4 conduct a little more research next time!
This is one of those situations where the facts have obviously been blown out of proportion. The Decatur Fire Marshal has been blamed. The facts have been distorted. But most of all is it worth any discussion at all. Maybe the dog was vicious. Would any of you shoot a dog if it attempted to attack you? Let’s not judge a person or a city before all of the facts are revealed or heard.

he is the fire marshall of Runaway Bay not of Wise County...this just shows the quality of the people working in Runaway Bay!!!

Maybe he will be falsely accused of assaulting a kid so that he will be scared and plea so that there is no trial.

The fire marshall is a peace officer, thus he can carry a gun. intentional cruelty to animals is a felony not a misdemeanor.
