The President's Surprise Visit To Iraq Today

Jon Stewart (of The Daily Show) said: "A few weeks after U.S. troops dropped two 500 pound surprises on al-Zarqawi , [uh, that was last week - but I digress] the White House dropped a 190 pound surprise on U.S. troops in the form of a presidential visit. Said the Iraqi Prime Minister to the President, 'If I had known you were coming I'd have built an infrastructure'." And, "A sign of progress will be when he can make announced visits."

The President's group snuck into Baghdad from the airport in a helicopter. They realize the roads are still much too dangerous (3 years after "Mission Accomplished"). Did you see the photo of the prez's press secretary and counsel in flack jackets and helmets? Pretty funny. The pix you didn't see was Bush hunkered down in his flack jacket!

I agree with Stuart, it'll be progress when you can announce the trip and he can drive the roads.

I wondered how long it would be before Bush did this. Are we now impressed? Yuk.

These side conversations are enlightening. Stuart?

Hail to the conquerer in chief who has to sneak in and out of the country he vanquished. When in history has the victor been so cowardly as to behave in a manner that reinforces the notion that he is not a victor? Let no photo op go unattempted.

And I suppose you have some witty comments as to why he (and past presidents) also has to wear a flak jacket and use a helicopter to travel to and from the airport in that bastion of liberal security called Washington, D.C.?

Today I unloaded a Flag Draped Coffin from one of our boys returning from Iraq. His mother and father stood at my side ....

Pretty much said all I needed to hear. I hope None of you ever go thru that ...

May the lord bless him and his family

6:42 You're right. This president or any president can't make an announced visit anywhere without massive security.

As usual Stewart and Green throw up a smoke screen. If they blow up news correspondents, why would you think they wouldn't harm the president.

These Iraqis are the poster boys of crazy. Saddam's boys use to shoot Olympic athletes that came in second. It hasn't been a save place for 30 years and that has nothing to do with the war.
