Wear A Helmet

In case you missed it, a star NFL quarterback almost got killed today (and may be in pretty bad shape). A friend of mine told me today, "I don't see how a helmet is going to save your life at a high speed."

Shouldn't the title be "Don't Drive a Motorcycle"?

I always remember a quote I saw somewhere several years ago that simply stated, " Buy your son a motorcyle for his last birthday".

Why do I not feel bad when I read some twenty-something kills himself due to a "high-speed", "one vehicle" accident involving a racing bike? Is it because I believe that person, while alive and cutting through traffic at 50 mph faster than everyone else, really could care less about who he kills?

Motorcycles are fine, when driven properly by responsible adults. But that seems so rare, it's actually noticeable when a motorcycle rider waits in a lane along with other vehicles, etc.

What these invincibles don't appreciate is the fact that while they may be terrific motorcycle drivers, they do not and can not control what might happen with other drivers. Getting cut off, somebody pulling out in front of them, and on a bike when that happens you've got a good chance of waking up dead.

I think insurance companies ought to stop covering injuries incurred by people doing stupid crap. Riding a motorcycle without a helmet? Sorry, not covered. Three year old son-of-a-bubba crashes his little pre-school four wheeler into a tree and breaks his arm? Sorry, let your stupid bubba daddy pay cash.

ESPN aired a special last football season on Ben Roethlisberger and several other NFL players who choose riding motorcyles as their offseason hobby. If I remember correctly, it's in Ben's contract that he can't ride during the season. I'm sure they will be replaying clips from that special. So sad, yet so predictable.

I think this idiot wouldn't wear a helmet for football if the NFL didn't require it. This is another "role model" for our kids. Geeeze.

Lane splitting is not illegal. Don't be angry because you're stuck in traffic. What should be banned is obnoxious Harley motorcycles.

Use some punctuation please...it makes the words into more sense. And please stop using all caps....it implies that you are yelling.

fallen brother...of course wearing a helmet doesn't save lives in every instance and drivers should look out for motorcycles...but to say that wearing a helmet doesn't make it safer for you is JUST LUDICROUS!

I AM YELLING! I AM TIRED OF THOSE WHO DONT RIDE TELLING ME AND MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS HOW WE SHOULD RIDE. WHEN YOU CAN SAFELY OPERATE YOUR MOTOR VEHICLE AND THEN BECOME A MOTORCYCLE OPERATOR WITH MORE EXPERINCE THAN ME THEN YOU CAN TELL ME HOW TO RIDE! AND YOU THE STUPID IDIOT WHO THINKES INSURANCE COMPANIES SHOULD STOP COVERAGE FOR THOSE OF US WHO DONT WEAR HELMENTS WELL THEN WE SHOULDNT INSURE ANYONE BECAUSE WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES. BY THE WAY THINK OF IT THIS WAY IF YOU TALK ON YOUR CELL PHONE AND GET HURT WHILE DRIVING YOUR CAR WELL LETS NOT COVER YOU FOR THAT OR YOUR SPEEDING OR BETTER YET YOUR ARE TIRED AND GET BEHIND THE WHEEL OF YOUR CAR AND ROLL IT THEN BY YOUR REMARKS NO COVERAGE FOR YOU. I HOPE YOU SEE THAT WE AS BIKIERS KNOW BETTER WHAT WE NEED TO DO FOR OUR SAFTEY THAN YOU DO WOULD YOU TELL A GUNNER HOW TO DO HIS JOB OR THE CAPTIAN OF A SHIP HOW DO HIS I HOPE NOT UNOLESS YOU ARE QUALIFED TO DO SO. AND FOR YOU ANAON 3:10 I HAVE HADD AT LEASXT FIVE FRIEND THAT HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENTS WERE THEY WERE TOLD THAT HAD THEY BEEN WEARING THIER HELMENTS THEY WOULD BE DEAD NOW. SO I SAY TO YOU THAT IT IS NOT LUDICROUIS IT IS A 50/50 CHANCE WETHER OR NOT WEARING A HELMENT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE

Well my angry friend, I can respond without yelling.

I have NEVER heard such baloney about how people's lives were saved by NOT wearing helmets. I have brothers who ride. They have had accidents that were caused by other inattentive drivers. They would have been critically injured had it not been for the protective gear they chose to put on before getting on their bikes.

Until you have worked in an emergency room and seen the greif of a family told their loved one is now braind dead because of the head injury that could have been avoided by wearing a helmet, I think you need to STOP YELLING AT US.
