What A Nut Case

The Dallas Morning News has a cover story today about Rev. Fred Phelps. Follow this reasoning: His "church group" shows up at funerals of U.S. service men (actual picture) "to promote its belief that the deaths of U.S. troops reflects God's wrath against America's tolerance of homosexuality."

Foolish Me; I thought it was because the current administration and congress tolerate the loss of young American service men's and women's lives!

Does he preach in Chico?

Call me slow but... I don't see the connection between troop casualties and homosexuality. I guess the Rev. Fred Phelps does.

Do what? He's a nut case!

anon 1:17 what's your point?

The Bible KJV says that God Put all His Wrath on His Son Jesus at the Cross!

Maybe the Rev is reading a different Bible, must be.

What does Chico have to do with this?

WOW Just goes to show you! You must
read the Bible for yourself! Don't just believe anything you hear and read!

I will pray for this man! He's got it all wrong! Jesus said love not hate

Yay, another religious showdown. Will this one get up to 45 comments like the last one?

Anon 1:31, I'm not really sure what you're getting at, but all I want to know is why so many people think that the KJV is the only word of God. It was translated from Hebrew just like any other English version of the bible. Which, as bigcatdaddy mentioned in a recent blog comment, translates very poorly to English. If anyone chooses to dispute what I am saying, please post some SOLID EVIDENCE as to why you think the KJV is the only true word of God.

anon 4:09 I never said that the KJV was the only one? Where did you get that from my statement?

I Like the NKJV myself! never did like the KJV the way it reads!

Well, here we go again...

Hope you will go to www.cathedralofhope.com

They are doing a
A Study of the Old Testament from a Liberal Perspective

If God does all the forgiving, why do we still have so many people hating gays, criminals, aborters, Muslims, etc? Can't we let God do his job and do the judging?

Anonymous said...

anon 5:52 You answered your own question!
1. God is God He forgives
2. People are people some choose to hate, not to forgive its their choice. Some choose to love and forgive! Its that simple.

The word of God says in Matthew chapter 7 that if you judge you will be judge in return not by God but by other people. Its called sowing and reaping.

God judge us at the cross

Some of you migh want to reference the book of Leviticus, wherein, sex between men is described as an "abomination against God." Key word here is "abomination." If my memory serves me right, there is only one other place in both testaments where an act is described as such. Although this guy has some serious communication issues, he does have biblical support. Unless one of you wants to rewrite the word, abomination, is pretty clear.

The problem is, as Christians, we are called to witness to others, not judge.

Protesting at a soldier's funeral with a sign that says, "GOD HATES FAGS!!!" goes far beyond the limitations of "witnessing."

So I think you might want to check yourself anon 8:59.

anon 8:59 You are right, but We live in the N.T. We are to love the sinner hate the sin. The rev has it wrong!God does not hate people that sin!

Of thousands of Old Testament passages, only two make explicit reference to homosexual acts: Leviticus 18:22 and Leviticus 20:13. Both of these passages are a part of the Levitical holiness code, which is not kept by any Christian group. If it was enforced, almost every Christian would be excommunicated or executed. It has been logically argued that science and progress have made many of the Levitical laws irrelevant. For example, fundamentalist author Tim LaHaye states that, although Levitical laws prohibit intercourse during menstruation, medical authorities do not view it as harmful, and, therefore, it should not be viewed as sinful. He further explains, “Those laws were given 3,500 years ago before showers and baths were convenient, before tampons, disinfectants and other improved means of sanitation had been invented.” (The Act of Marriage, p.275) With that, LaHaye makes this law irrelevant and rightly so. Ironically, though, in his book, The Unhappy Gay, the Levitical laws are one of the chief cornerstones of his arguments. Much of the holiness code is now irrelevant for us as moral law. Thus, having children, which was of exceptional importance to the early Hebrews, is now made less relevant by overpopulation, just as the prohibition against eating pork and shellfish has been made irrelevant by refrigeration.

I've heard Rev. Fred on the radio and he is scary. He is very focused but all his efforts are in vain except for some who wish to show their hatred to others.

As someone who believes that homosexual activity is in contradiction to God's word, I can only imagine the damage Rev. Fred is doing to people on both sides of the issue. It's truly, truly sad to see anyone act as he does and hear anyone talk as he does. I listened to him on the radio one night and while I kept wanting to turn it off, I just kept listening hoping for some redeeming word he might say but it never came. He is a hurting man and I'm afraid he has much to learn about the true will of God.

I can tell you God is not for homosexuality! No way not now or ever! He wants everyone to receive His Son Jesus as Lord!

Love the sinner hate the sin!
the rev has it backwards!

God does not hate people that sin!

The reason Chico was brought into the pic is because of the people in Chico that has all of the signs in their front yard. The house is on the way to the school.

Anonymous said...

O I see thanks for the info! I have seen that yard!

What does the Bible really say about homosexuality? Actually, very little. Most significantly, Jesus said nothing at all.
