Rich AND Funny

Today, eight workers at a Nebraska meat processing plant have claimed the record $365 million Powerball jackpot. The seven men and one woman were introduced by Gov. Dave Heineman in Lincoln, Nebraska. When one of the workers was asked if he was still working at the plant, he replied: "I've been retired for about four days." By the way, after receiving the lump sum, taking out taxes and dividing by eight, each person got about $15.5 million.

Lotteries are such a rip. OK, so $300 plus million of present value dollars flowed into the lottery. Then, the lottery gives back a little over $100 million in present value dollars. And the $200 million? Split among the states to pay for programs to help poor people that spend all their money on the lottery. Gawd.

Anon 11:25, please explain to me why 100 million would be anything to complain about.

becausae you actually won over 300$ million! But i would take the hundred million. Why did they split up the sum? Did they all pay for the ticket?

Imagine what it's like today to be those other few people in the meat plant, slogging to make a bad living, who said "no" when asked if they wanted in on the lottery tickets. Sad to think that I'm sure one of the people that said no did so because they didn't feel they could waste the money.

I love the lotto especially when some hard working Joes win! I couldn't be happier for them! It makes life better just to know that it could happen to you...and they don't have to go to one of the worst jobs in the world in the morning.
