Paging All Texas Counties

This includes routine drug testing (a ton of cases) and DWI blood testing (a ton of cases).

Texas DPS has a "biennial budget of just under $2.5 billion."

EDIT: WHOA! It sounds like the arresting agency will be billed. County would be responsible for Sheriff's Office cases. Cities would be responsible for their local PD cases.

Why not have the suspect pay the fee for testing?

11:35, My thoughts exactly. Only if they fail the test.

To follow your logic they should take it out of the arresting officer's pay if they pass.

we were already paying for it. What difference does it make whether it's county funds or state?

It all comes out of one taxpayer pocket or another. The difference is accounting. Who is credited with the bill is the only change.

Awesome. Maybe now more agencies won't waste money like Rhome and Decatur do.

Let the lotto pay for it. Who needs education? We have Czar Trump.

Sounds like the way that it should have always been. The State shouldn't be having to cover the cost because a local PD wants this testing done. It should be billed to the PD and not the responsibility of the State.

Not sure why anyone would have an issue with this....

Whatever happened to that big fancy RV that our former High Sheriff bought? What a waste of money.

Arresting should absolutely pay for it. Of course, in places like Houston that just means they'll refuse to pay for thousands of kits instead of trying to find the rapists, or murderers, etc.

Soooo...I guess we can now reduce the DPS budget, right? Right?!?!?

Add on a probation fee to recover these costs!

That big Command Post,The one that sits in the Sheriffs Office and only gets used for the PBR and the Toy Run, and they deny it's use for Fire Departments needing it to be a command post.

Cut more county employee pay or benefits. They are non union/at will employees in a right to work State. JD needs to trim some more fat. They waste too much time on Facebook anyway. WC needs more Republican lean government.

Isn't the ex rhome chief living in it?

Hey dumbasses...this is why your property taxes HAVE TO GO UP! If you want city services, you have to pay for them.
