- The Wise County Jury sentenced that kid in the Criminally Negligent Homicide case to the maximum of two years in the State Jail last night. That's day for day with no parole. That shocked me. The jury had sent out a note the day before saying they wanted to sentence him to 9 months in the State Jail followed by five years of probation. However, the verdict wasn't in the proper form and couldn't be accepted.
- I wouldn't mind being in a cozy home in Boston this weekend as the two to three foot of snowfall approaches. Of course, on Monday I would want to get out of there with no inconvenience.
- When did we start naming snowstorms?
- No cameras, purses, or backpacks will be allowed at Chris Kyle's memorial service at Cowboys Stadium. Man, that's going to be a mess at the entrances.
- Picture of the hand of the man who lost a finger at the Perot Museum.
- Courtney Stodden is at it again.
- With UT sports struggling in multiple areas, I wonder if we are on verge of seeing the end of Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds.
- When I asked the other day about Wise County kids going on to play college football, you guys came through with a bunch of names I didn't know about. If I were smart, I'd go back and compile a list for the future. Not a lot of Wise County historians out there.
- It's been ten years since "In Da Club" came out. Whatever happened to 50 Cent?
- The sound of hairdryers running in the background is a big player in my life.
- The cop on the loose in California left a manifesto which included messages to Larry David, Charlie Sheen, Gov. Chris Christie, Ellen Degeneres, Tim Tebow and Christopher Walz. Yeah, he's stable.

We started naming snowstorms when the media decided it was more important to report the news than it was to report about what the First Lady was wearing that week. Maybe they finally realized a good portion of America doesn't have the obsession with the first family that they do and that's why their ratings have tanked the last 7 years or so. Nothing but sensationalizing something that's happened literally, hundreds of times since since people showed up there 400 years ago.
The former cop out in CA is crazier than a bastard cat.
Still no HSO's Barry... You make me sad. You're the addiction that is beginning to continually let me down. :(
It is long overdue for Dodds to be gone from Austin. He was certainly a main player in the Longhorn Network which has crippled the Big 12 (10). Texas A&M like others before them was tired of that type of mindless greed and stupidity.
Some non-mainstream media news reports say that the crazy California cop's unabridged manifesto indicates that he's a devout Leftist and Obama supporter. Funny how previously the media immediately (and incorrectly) tried to link these mass murderers to the Right, but play down (or ignore) this one actual documented case when it's a Liberal. (They did the same thing with the gay activist/terrorist who intended to shoot up the Family Research Council.)
That chick has beauty. Really Hot. Good Job!
When did we start naming snowstorms?
I don't know, but that is ghay.
The cops around LA are shooting innocent women. It is crazy how trigger happy they are showing themselves to be. Shows you how bad they want him silenced.
If you read the manifesto, it makes you wonder if half of its true, we know why the cops want to silence him so bad. He got some poop on some cops, I bet.
He needs to surrender because the cops don't want him alive.
Hey BG I got my truck inspected at M&M Vehicle inspection in Decatur on hwy 287 South. Next to McMaster New Holland and they said all Liberally lean fans get a 50 cent discount! 5 min inspection......
Eew, girls are gross! I don't get the fascination.
Rage
It's amazing we can even have things like museums, zoos, stadiums and other public places anymore. Now, the designers and operators of these places must always ask, "OK, team...let's think of and then try to prevent the thousands of ways that idiots could hurt themselves here by acting a fool, showing off, being drunk, distracted by texting, etc."
the most shocking thing to me is that you can be held responsible for the death of four people and the worst the state can do is hold you for only two years!
The guy's name is Christoph Waltz - not Christopher
Brother's girlfriend lost a ring finger in a motorcycle accident. I saw it after she healed, and haven't noticed it since, very streamlined. I told her she has cartoon hand.
Of all the digits you could lose, that's probably the easiest to overcome. Thumb - can you say opposable? Index or pinkie - hassle! Then there's that one you occasionally shoot off at others. It's the anchor, right there in the middle

Worldkyle is sitting in his basement absolutely despondent over his boy Romney flaming out. Face it, your man got his butt whipped. Man up and move on.
What happened to old school conservatives who were the strong type? The Sarah Palin victimhood conservative types are so pathetic. Stop playing the whiny victim and act like a man. Be John Wayne, not Palin.
8:59 must be an faggie
Bacon has, with support of G & L yesterday, jumped the shark!
Rage too! 9:30
Like!
8:59, it may indeed be time for Dodds to go from UT, but it has nothing to do with the LHN. The fact that UT gets $20M/year that most other schools don't is no reason to get rid of your AD.
UT wanting to control its 3rd tier rights and branding is not "mindless" or "greedy". It is smart business.
If you want to discuss "stupidity", you should check with the Aggies. During development, Dodds tried to partner with the Aggies for a Lone Star Network to promote the 3rd tier rights of both schools. The Ags didn't see a future in it and bailed. UT went forward on its own and cashed in.
Florida made their own deal for 3rd tier rights back in 2008. Let's see, they are in what conference? Now, every NCAA school is trying to work out a way to make some $ off their 3rd tier rights.
I have problems with Dodds, but his foresight of the future of TV revenue for universities was spot on.
The Perp killer in CAL looks like the black version of Pyle in Full Metal Jacket
930 - Everything you say is true and accurate. As a supporter of the losing candidate in 2012, I should learn to ignore the media bias and accept everything the news anchors say as complete, neutral, factual and gospel. Life as a Liberal will be so much easier without having to do any of that "thinking" stuff.
Hey Skippy -- You mentioned the Westboro Baptist Church would be at the Chris Kyle memorial service. There is a petition circulating which is trying to have the church listed as an official hate group. I decided to do a little research on exactly who these losers were.
I turned to wikipedia that reports the family has 13 children of which 11 are..... wait for it..... lawyers. It was then that I realized why these people were such a bunch of bungholes.
They're lawyers.... doen't that pretty much explain everything.
The late great Abe Lemons said that he wanted a glass bottom car so he could see DeLoss Dodds' face as he ran over him.
The LA manhunt suspect looks like Shaq and Barry Bonds had a love child.
The cops in CA are shooting at more moving stuff than the crazy ex-cop.
You should make a post about Dumbya's bathtub and shower self-portraits, as already seen on BON's page. I am sure Wordbyle would get all warm and tingly.
When did we start naming snowstorms?
I would like to be up close and personal so I could name those two mountains........
In addition, two civilians were injured early on Thursday when police officers opened fire on them in a vehicle they believed to be Dorner's.
RTG: Eh, just another soft, slightly overweight chick that probably should NOT wear a bikini to start with. If she stood up, YUCK. No bueno BG.
Yeah, blame the "lamestream" media and act like a victim.
The conservatives need real men again, like Ronald Reagan and William F. Buckley.
1056 - "Act like a victim" is an interesting description for pointing out the media's foibles. I'm not exactly sure what you might think the media is being "blamed" for -- do you want to elaborate?
I don't disagree that Conservatives need to stand up and fight for their beliefs. The last prominent Conservative to do that wasn't a man, though, it was a woman, Sarah Palin. The media sure respected her, didn't they?
10:03 -
Don't confuse an Aggie by giving them the facts!
10:03 I agree that Dodds' ability cash in on 3rd tier rights and to turn a buck with the LHN proves him to be a shrewd negotiator and great businessman. Instead of firing him, he deserves a raise. The ones that should be looking for a job are those that gave Texas a deal like that for such a second rate product.
Florida is producing a quality product in multiple sports and is able to recruit and perform at a high level on the national stage, not just the SEC.
Texas on the other hand is on the down hill slide nationally, in their own conference, and even in comparison to other programs in their own state. Poor recruiting this year was blamed on limited scholorships, but the future speaks for itself.
And the question that still needs to be answered is, has Texas and the Big 12 gained or lost national stature since the formation of the LHN?
Word -
The media did not respect Palin because she was a dimwit cartoon, just like so many "prominent" Republicans. I would love to vote for a candidate that reflected classic values, but all you can put forward are religious nut jobs and corporate stooges.
Sarah Palin is an old school liberal who whines constantly and portays herself as a victim. And she was a throwback to the old "no nothings" who derided the value of education.
My uncle was a mercury 7 astronaut. Lost his ring finger as a child. The only finger the air force, and thus nasa, said you could be missing and still effectively fly a jet. Fun fact Friday.

Double Fake DeLosssssss "Whisssssssssstle Talker" Doddsssssssss
1125 - How's about providing your evidence that Palin was a "dimwitted cartoon?" It's pretty clear that you don't know what you're talking about, and I'd like for you to vividly illustrate that for the crowd.
11:25 You do realize the "classic values" you wish you could vote for are the result of the religious influence you immediately thereafter derided, right?
50 is peddling some work out videos.
Saw him on the Today Show some weeks back.
Crazy CA ex cop sent message to Anderson Cooper as well. Told him to stop interrupting his guests and sent along a coin that had 3 bullet holes in it.
I hope they find that psycho soon!
Wordy, all you need for evidence is her Katie Couric interviews. Case closed.
But keep going over those Ohio returns, Romney can still win!
When did L.L. Cool J start killing cops?
Wouldn't it be bizarre if DeLoss was show the door at UT, but snapped up by A&M? Shades of Dana X Bible, but in reverse.

229 - I assume you're referring to her not answering about what magazines or newspapers she read, right?
Obama did essentially the same thing in an interview with a reporter from the New York Times and again with George Stephanopoulos.
The difference? Neither the reporter nor Stephanopoulos followed up aggressively, as Couric did with Palin. So Obama was not labeled a "dimwit" because of his non-answers.
Wordy...OMG! You've picked a Friday in February to jump the shark? Why didn't you give us a heads up?
You are now defending Palin against those that claim she was not very smart. Really?
Sure, 2:20 is right, the Katie Couric interview was enough, but I didn't need that. The real evidence is, "I heard her speak".
Please dig your hole deeper. Tell me how smart she was, what a great education she had, how she really had a handle on the issues, how she was ready to lead the country.
I hate to say it Word, because I know you mean well, but for the Republican party to move forward it needs shed the likes of you and the Tea Party movement. I have been a lifelong Republican and am tired of you and your ilk calling mainstream folks like myself Rino's or closet dems. This absolutist position has to stop-it is not politically viable. I know you think that you are saving us all from Socialism but that is simply bullshit. Look, I don't believe in Obama's direction but the way to win back votes doesn't involve a mentality of "our way or the highway".
Whatever you feel for Sarah Palin, it doesn't matter because she was hugely unpopular. Maybe the media caused it, maybe she brought it on herself, but what is important is that in the next election we are not spending all our time talking about her instead of the candidates actually running for office. You need to realize folks like her are a huge turnoff to independents, young voters, and mainstream Republicans.
We need smart people, not just candidates that say there is no such thing as global warming, or that want to legislate what we do in our bedrooms. These are real issues now, and we need people who can make reasonable sense of the issues and relate to public sentiment on them. You cannot simply say we will always be against whatever the dems are for, like you have been doing.
The dems have taken the intellectual high ground on these issues, but their policy is greatly flawed. They have made numerous mistakes, especially with regards to energy policy. If we are smart we can capitalize on this by devoloping a business friendly, but smart and well regulated policy to overhaul green energy initiatives in a way that doesn't penalize traditional energy, but still provides a path for a healthier enviroment. Not just the touchy feely BS that the dems have been doing.
Same thing with social issues. Gay marriage and abortion are not the hill we can die on anymore. Turn the dems and Obama on their head in 4 years by supporting gay marriage, and punishing Obama for being wishy washy on the issue for so many years. Become the party of social reform...why you ask, because number one we are about freedom so let's prove it, and number two the percentage of the population that these issues really affect is miniscule but there political weight is tremendous. It simply no longer makes any sense to fight on an issue that was decided 40 years ago, and one that is about personal freedom for a relatively small amount of people.
To summarize, get the fringe issues off the table so we can hammer away on the failed policies that truly will hurt America.
...and for the love of God please, just once, have an original thought that doesn't involve some bullshit link to some study, article, poll or survey. I don't care if you rip me a new arsehole, just f'ng do it with some originality.
How's about providing your evidence that Palin was a "dimwitted cartoon?"
I forgot how fun it was to yank wordy's Palin chain. She couldn't answer the simplest questions.
I'm with you wordy, she has nice cans and looks great in heels, but man is she dumb.
309 et al - You're using catchphrases you heard other people use. You want to believe Palin was the caricature created by the media. That's your right, of course, but that doesn't mean your claims get to go unchallenged. You folks are long on generalities and short on specifics.
Here's my point: For every instance you use to "prove" how stupid/uninformed/ignorant Palin was or is, I can provide numerous examples of other leading politicians who did/said things just as dumb who have not been labeled "dimwits." The difference? The others were excused for their gaffes instead of vivisected by the media.
The difference? Neither the reporter nor Stephanopoulos followed up aggressively, as Couric did with Palin. So Obama was not labeled a "dimwit" because of his non-answers.
Wordy
A)Former Editor/President of the Harvard Law Review.
B)Could "see" Russia.
Pick the dimwit.
350 - The "dimwit" is the one who bases his argument on a Saturday Night Live skit.
Speaking of the HLR, how about a list of articles that Editor/President Obama wrote for the publication?
3:50 wins today's prize for proving the opposition's point.
Palin never said that. Tina Fey did on SNL, a comedy show.
Your inability to distinguish fact from fiction and your insistence on making judgements based on that inability is what got us Obama's reckless policies.
Thanks a lot, Butt-Head
307 - Because of the length of your comment I skimmed it until just now. Sorry if I'm not "original" enough to suit you. Speaking of which, your argument is a repeat of what Karl Rove got through saying a few days ago. So you might want to turn that laser-like focus onto yourself.
As for the links I provide...many years ago I got called out on this forum for not substantiating my claims. So I started adding links to comments so readers can verify for themselves that my information is valid. Again, sorry if that displeases you. It's not very original, I admit, but considering the existing number of unsubstantiated claims (3:50, I'm lookin' at you) my meager offerings barely scratch the surface.
Stupid is stupid from either party, word. The difference? You defend Palin as staunchly (and wrongly) as liberals defend their own.
There's no media hype to the fact that she couldn't answer basic questions about what magazines or books she reads. She's plain old stupid, and anyone who excuses her ignorance is just licking their wounds from the 2008 election. Or, more likely in your case, defending her because she's got one foot in the tea party camp. Blood is thicker than water, no matter how thick blood is, I guess.
Alex, I'll take Dimwit for $100.
And the answer is:
3:50
10:03
The Lnghorns wanted to include the Aggies in the LHN but not at an equal party! They offered something like an 80/20 split and A&M being smarter than most people said "No Thank You!" All the Big 12 schools starting bailing as a result of the unfairness of this deal for UT and the fact that UT kept telling everyone how it was going to be!! A&M's best decision ever was to go SEC!! UT would have done the same thing, IF they had been asked to join the SEC! The Longhorns are just jealous now and are throwing baby fits now about not playing the Aggies!! LOL
428 - there was no media hype that Obama couldn't answer basic questions about what books or magazines he read. In fact, there was no reaction at all. That's known in the business as a "free pass."
I agree that "stupid is stupid from either party." That no-magazine-or-book-reading, "57-states," "I speak Austrian" Obama is quite the dimwit, isn't he?

You can see remote eastern islands of Russia from remote western islands of Alaska.
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2008/09/can_you_really_see_russia_from_alaska.html
Excerpt from the article:
n her Sept. 11 interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson, Sarah Palin had this to say about Russia: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." Is that true?
Yes. Russia and Alaska are divided by the Bering Strait, which is about 55 miles at its narrowest point. In the middle of the Bering Strait are two small, sparsely populated islands: Big Diomede, which sits in Russian territory, and Little Diomede, which is part of the United States. At their closest, these two islands are a little less than two and a half miles apart, which means that, on a clear day, you can definitely see one from the other.
Alex, I'll take Dimwit for $200 please.
And the answer is:
5:51
PS A shout out to Miss S. Carolina for the map
551 - Ah, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that Palin's factual, true statement was something a person might want to use against her. Most knuckleheads using the "Palin said she can see Russia" argument base it on the SNL skit. My apologies, you're most assuredly not that kind of knucklehead.
5:51
Your boat is sinking, bail faster!
No wait! Just go down with the ship.
Word @4:28 I don't follow Karl Rove or any pundit from either side. My opinion on this is my own and not formed by anything other than common sense and a basic understanding of the election results. The strategy I discussed goes against my personal beliefs on both abortion and gay marriage, but I see no value in haggling on these anymore...if Karl agrees, more power to him. I would have gladly given him credit if I used his opinion to form my own.
If someone disagrees with you then they will not care about your links partner...you could find a link on the internet supporting anything and everything. It actually does a disservice to your credibility.
I didn't realize that Palin's factual, true statement was something a person might want to use against her.
Wordy
When considering "dimwit" levels it's quite relevent. You pride yourself in her statement being factual. But you fail to listen to the question.
When asked what insight she had into Russian actions against Georgia her answer was "You can see Russia from land in Alaska". That meant she had as much insight into foreign politics as a Kodiak Bear. Her stunning lack of knowledge is what led to your much ballyhooed SNL parody. It wasn't the other way around.
Give up Wordy. Even Roger Ailes cut her loose.
736 - Your opinion is your own, and it's the same as what Karl Rove said several days ago. So while your opinion may be yours, it's still not original. After all this, I'm still not sure what your criticism of my "lack of originality" is based on, or why it matters to you.
As for my using links -- well, those who want to read them will, and those who don't, won't. I'm comfortable with that. Who does or doesn't is immaterial.
759 - Did you see any of the Palin interview other that those two lines? Since we're toward the end of this day's comments I'm taking the liberty of putting up the pertinent conversation as it actually happened:
GIBSON: Let’s start, because we are near Russia, let’s start with Russia and Georgia.
The administration has said we’ve got to maintain the territorial integrity of Georgia. Do you believe the United States should try to restore Georgian sovereignty over South Ossetia and Abkhazia?
PALIN: First off, we’re going to continue good relations with Saakashvili there. I was able to speak with him the other day and giving him my commitment, as John McCain’s running mate, that we will be committed to Georgia. And we’ve got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable and we have to keep…
GIBSON: You believe unprovoked.
PALIN: I do believe unprovoked and we have got to keep our eyes on Russia, under the leadership there. I think it was unfortunate. That manifestation that we saw with that invasion of Georgia shows us some steps backwards that Russia has recently taken away from the race toward a more democratic nation with democratic ideals. That’s why we have to keep an eye on Russia.
And, Charlie, you’re in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors. We need to have a good relationship with them. They’re very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.
GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.
GIBSON: What insight does that give you into what they’re doing in Georgia?
PALIN: Well, I’m giving you that perspective of how small our world is and how important it is that we work with our allies to keep good relation with all of these countries, especially Russia. We will not repeat a Cold War. We must have good relationship with our allies, pressuring, also, helping us to remind Russia that it’s in their benefit, also, a mutually beneficial relationship for us all to be getting along.
Readers can decide for themselves if that constitutes a "stunning lack of knowledge."
Wordy, after reading through all comments I have to say that even though I didn't support Palin, I respect your comments and responses over all of the "anti-Palin" ones. Why? You seem to have an articulated, researched (links provided), and non-emotional argument instead of relying on name calling to get your point across.
Kudos
Wordy, I know you're not stupid. However, just providing links does not prove your positions. The authors you reference are like you and I, we all have a**holes and opinions. A link is a link - it is certainly not proof of a position.
More than 90% of climate scientists agree that our current global warming is influenced by human activity. (A like number probably agree Palin is not the brightest light even in the Republican party). You can provide links to the few who disagree but that does not make them - or you correct.
Word @ 8:43, sorry I cannot provide a link to prove I didn't know about Rove's comments. I actually made the same comments in the days following the election but after some searching I haven't yet located them. I will keep looking but since I didn't sign in I doubt you would believe me anyway. I know I am just some anonymous on a blog but I am being honest here.
All I am saying on originality, is state your opinion sometimes and just let it stand. I realize that in instances like above, links are necessary. Just tell us how you really feel without the political conjecture. Maybe something you don't spin back into, "oh yeah, Obama has done worse".
1128 - The links I provide seem to bother you quite a bit, unnaturally so. You seem to have deeper problems than how I support my arguments. Do you think a link to an actual transcript of an interview is an "opinion?" Your being troubled by my comments, my opinions or my links is your issue, not mine.
As always, I'll continue to offer up comments and links, and let others decide how much value they want to place on them. Some folks are just irritated by my opinions, and try various tactics to undermine my positions. (Except for offering up actual facts; these are the same folks who believe the Palin caricature is real.)
943 - Do you even read my comments? Have you missed the, oh, thousand or so times that I have stated an opinion and "just let it stand?" Go back, read everything I've posted the last seven years, and get back to me. Until then, you appear to lack the information you need.
Readers can decide for themselves if that constitutes a "stunning lack of knowledge."
-Wordy
Voters decided that in 2008. Do you need a link?
Word...you plucked out the "just let it stand" part but convieniently left out "political conjecture". Your world is so entangled with hatred for your political opposition or anyone that might disagree with on a blog, that I am suprised your still sane.
You may win your share of battles on meaningless factual accounts, like the Palin nonsense above, but you continually fail to see the bigger picture. Classic case of not seeing the forest for the trees. How does it feel to be so political but so politically irrelevant? Folks like you did it to yourself...thinking your little corner of the world was the model for all and when that came crashing down your true colors came shining through. Down deep your no different than the welfare dependant liberal, only concerned about yourself.
7:20:
2008 was a referendum on Palin?
Interesting. And perhaps truer than you would care to admit. The newsies attacked Palin with a fervor that was as distressing as was the fawning that they were doing over B.H.O. Funny how, with the spinning of the stories that Palin was a dumb beauty contest winner, and Obama was a genius, we lost sight completely of McCain. And what of Joe Biden? How is that gaffe machine not the center of every political joke made over the last five years?
To claim that Sarah Palin is a moron is a really dumb reduction. Hell, I don't even believe that Joe Biden is a complete idiot; he just acts like one.
720 - Thanks for illustrating my point. Obama supporters accepted a caricature of Palin, rather than the facts, even when the facts were presented directly to them, as I did above. So as for 2008, "Fool me once" is about as good an apology as anyone can expect from those who were fooled.
But when Obama supporters continue to believe in, and argue for, the caricature simply because it supports their alternate reality? That's the definition of mental illness.
And as I said, readers can look at that exchange and make up their own minds. I daresay Palin knew more about the Russia/Georgia geopolitical situation than 99.9% of Obama voters.
1108 - "hatred for your political opposition"? -- Not sure where you got that. I don't "hate" anyone. In fact, one of my closest and dearest fans is a raging Liberal Democrat. You'll need to quantify that a bit, buddy.
As for "meaningless factual accounts," that's the essence of ignorance. In this case a Palin-basher presented completely false and easily-disprovable claims. Most folks -- after all, Obama did win the last two elections -- see the video or read the lines, and think "hmmm, must be true." Unless they are presented with the actual information, they continue to base their judgments on a falsehood.
As for "politically irrelevant," that's been the claim about the Tea Partiers since that movement started -- but they're credited for Republican Congressional gains in 2010, and continually blamed for every hiccup in the Democrats' plans since then. So your wishful thinking doesn't necessarily reflect reality.
Deny, deny, deny. I'm rubber and you're glue. Everything you say bounces off me and sticks to you!
Wordkyle on tactics when losing a debate... badly.
1219 - You're still indulging in your alternate reality.
