Funny observation. (But I heard that the attendance was over 30,000 when they feared it would be under 10,000.)
Edit: And I can't believe I forgot about Ronald Reagan
speaking in Reunion Arena as a presidential candidate at what, I think, was referred to a convention of the "Moral Majority." No one really batted an eye back then. (Credit, one again, Bud Kennedy.)

30,000 idiots bowing their heads and talking to nothing.
He is a Christian and Christians should not be afraid to show their FAITH! Right behind you Gov. Perry! Way to stand tall and not allow the oppression of Christianity by others!
Our children cannot pray in school; but, this guy calls for prayers. Does he not know that we are aware why he does this?
Hope he is our next president so he will get the hell out of Texas.
US credit rating down graded.
Texas credit rating upgraded.
I'll take my chances with a
Christain in the White House
over a Marxist.
No one really batted an eye back then. Just shows how the liberal weenies have ramped up their assault on the Christian conservatives. They even have the lamestream media on their side.
5:57 - did Barry pay you for this post?
If you are "right behind him"-.......are you gay?
In this picture, it looks like he's very pleased that no one can see his horns. Not saying I'm for or against him, he just looks a little evil in the pic.
I was in Houston today across from the "event", I think most people came in town for the Hunters show being held at Reliant Center, plus the Texans training camp is going on there.
Day of Debauchery & Gluttony was my plan...
Skippy, I suspect that any grown man in that pose would remind you of Pastor Bob.
I dont care to much for rick perry. However, our current president is deliberately running this country right into the ground. Our credit rating has been downgraded, he wants more money, higher taxes and still no budget proposal. Does this make sense? One can only assume that he is doing this on purpose. We have to get it him out of there.
6:50, How very shallow and stupid are you? Just because someone says they are "right behind you" you throw out the GAY innuendo?
You evidently do not have much substance in your life!
Yes, I am a Christian and I do back Perry in his prayer to God! You can throw insults to me all you wish, because I am not insulted at all. I have our Lord and my Saviour on my side!!! So does Perry! Betcha you're thinking Obama and the Muslims have your back, right?
hahahaaa!! That seems to be workin for ya really good, huh?
"Onward Christian soldiers..."
I wonder how much that little gathering cost? I mean for the price of the "gathering" we could have put some experienced teachers back in the workforce.
thank you, state of texas.
Lets hope they prayed for Obama to put a stop his racist people.

Lets hope they were praying for Obama to put a stop to these black racist hate crimes.

Christians -- one of the few groups in America that it's considered socially and legally acceptable to insult and offend. By how much he makes Liberal hair stand on end, I'm beginning to think Perry may be the candidate to support if he decides to run.
Perry is "using" Christians to get elected.
5:57 - the sweetest Christians I know do not FLAUNT their faith.
They LIVE it, with dignity and service to a hurting world.
Liberals are critical of Perry for praying with these people to the God who has been a part of America since the beginning of our country but have nothing negative to say of Muslims praying and building a mosque at the site of 911.
I am a Christian.
I am a Conservative.
Rick Perry is a phony.
He is not the answer; just better than what we have now.
I always find it funny that non-Christians seem to always think they know more about my Christian faith than I do. I don't tell you how to be a good atheist so stop telling me how to be a good Christian.
@Anon 5:47,keep thinking that way,but rest assured one day when you see your life passing before your eyes you will call out to this nothing you speak of,either for repentance or for mercy. There are NO atheist in a foxhole! I pray that someday before your chosen date you come to understand this.
We'er all doomed and all that's left is to get involved with Drugs or Alcohol before December 21 2012 but we may not make to then because the Sun has moved closer to us.
Good luck to those who are left.
On December 21 2012 a big surprise is coming.
6:32, Just what do you call "flaunting their faith?" Are Christians flauting their faith when they say how wonderful their Lord and Savior is? Do you call it flaunting when they proudly admit they are Christian? Evidently you are no Christian or you are ashamed to to say so for fear that others will put you down. I'm no radical Christian, but I will certainly NOT EVER deny my faith!
Isn't it about time that the liberal weenies start their every 4 year pilgramage to the black churches in the south and try to talk black?
Making a spectacle out of prayer for political purposes is not exactly what I would call a good Christian act. If he wanted to communicate with God for the good of his country he would not need all the cameras and publicity. Amazing how many folks fall for this charade. I will say he is a smart politician, this seems to have served his purpose, lots of national attention focused on him. We will know why he did it if he announces his candidacy in the next week or so.
Uncle Wally
What's amazing is how many people who oppose someone politically become instant experts on how that person should practice his religion.
Kind of funny the bloggers here blame the "liberal Weinies" for disliking Perry...take at look at the Republican voters in the State of Texas...they don't approve of him as well...must be a virus!
5:47
That "nothing" we pray to is the "nothing" that is the Author of creation. Do you thing that all the elements and life itself came from a big bang? What caused the big bang? It could not be more idiotic than to think that everything evolved from nothing unless it is the "nothing" that we pray to. I believe in adaption of the species and not in the evolution that atheist worship. Some of the world's most noted scientist are question. Why? Because they see first hand that there has to be intelligent design to our existence. Coming to any other conclusion is an incomprehensible level of stupidity.
Im just thankful that we have a Gov. who will stand up to those liberals, who believe we evolved. Our Gov. prays to the actuall creator!!! That is what a real man is all about!! Sorry if I offend all you liberal men out there, but sometimes we just need to stand up and be truthful it is time us christians open our mouths and quit letting liberals take God out of everything we do because it might offend someone well we as christians have been offended long enough it is time to fight back!!!!
wordkyle: NAILED it as usual!
Gern Blansten
Answers? guy, what noted scientists?
Christians ARE NOT persecuted in this country! We are free to worship and are not socially outcaste for our beliefs. Stop whining.
425 if we all stop fighting you will lose that right and you will be persecuted.
Wordkyle, making a spectacle out of prayer for political gains is one thing, practicing one's religion is another.
Uncle Wally
425 - Did you intentionally mischaracterize what commenters have said? Or simply misunderstand the conversation? "Free to worship" and "not socially outcaste [sic] for our beliefs" are different from "free to worship without ridicule" and "easy targets for criticism/hatred/defamation for our beliefs." As I said previously, it's not only legal, it's socially acceptable in today's culture. And God forbid that a Christian react angrily, lest he be accused of "un-Christianlike" behavior.
2:11, It was probably fractions of what one of Moochelle Obammy's vacations.
If y'all tea party douches would stop praying and start listening at what is happening, you would know that obama has been way more conservitive ( the bush tax cuts ect.) then he has been liberal or even democratic . So for y'all to keep bitching about him is just racest ! And for you god damn christrians don't bitch about another religion. Oh ya. There is no god get over you pussys
3:36, I will give you a few of them in history: Sir Francis Bacon, Galileo, Isaac Newton, Faraday and Einstein as in E=mc*2. Please note that I did not include Al Gore, a Baptist, and inventor of the Internet and Global Warming.
812 - Pay a lot of attention to the news, do ya? Did that Obamacare thing slip right past? Or the stimulus bill that didn't stimulate? Or the expanded powers of regulatory agencies? Or the increased number of federal employees? (Plus additional number of government limos.) Or the 141 White House employees earning over $100,000 a year? Or the record number of unelected, unaccountable "czars" that Obama has appointed? Opinions come easy, don't they, when you don't have to base them on reality.
710 - So Christians can pray, just not so loudly. And a politician needs to keep his religious opinions to himself, right? I can imagine how terrifying it is for the Left to see thousands of motivated Christians gather together, look around, and realize how many of them there are. The next thing you know, they'll be wanting to vote! (Psst -- who do you think is more eager for next year's election, Liberal Democrats or Conservative Republicans?)
Matthew 6:5-7
8:12, go do your chores. This is an adult conversation.
C'mon, Mike. That's the atheist trick. (Not to mention Saul Alinsky: "Make the enemy live up to its own rules.") Public prayer, and public participatory prayer, are mentioned approvingly throughout the Bible. It's even done by Jesus himself. (John 11, 41-42, Acts 20:35) Here's a nasty little Christian secret: They even pray publicly in their churches!
Answers you are such a pitiful example. Get off your highorse and quit talkin' down to everybody who doesn't hold the same beliefs as you. If you actually practiced what the Bible taught then you would be singing a whole diff tune...Think about it.
11:32 - EXCELLENT points. Just hope 10:07 reads it. Some folks are RADICAL about their Christianity and do more harm than good.
Skippy,
Bud Kennedy is an idiot...move on down the road man.
I'll pray that he finds his way along with the audience in attendace.
Displaying the treasures of Your work,
Jesus, You invited me to follow You,
To sell my goods, to give to the poor,
And to completely submit Myself to You.
Desires for wealth leads to greed,
Satisfaction never being reached.
He who seeks no earthly possessions
Is free of all avarice aspirations.
Jesus, edify my weak human nature,
To resist unnecessary commodities,
Those classified as evident luxury.
May I subdue all greedy tendencies!
Amen
O'Mally...that is the type of prayer that leads to homelessness! At least you would be green.
Yes, Word, we even prayed at my church yesterday. Out Loud even.
But that doesn't change what Jesus said in Matthew. IMHO he clearly was making a point about those who pray for a display. Its everyone's opinion as to what that constitutes. For me, that's what Gov. Perry did at this convention. (And lots of politicians from both parties do when its convenient.)
"I ain't no ways tired." Hillary Clinton speaking at a black church.
7:09, 10:07 here. Perhaps you did not read the part that says I am not RADICAL in my Christianity (whatever that might mean to you), but I will say this. Some of you non-descript, silent, "Christians" who post on here trying to silence your Christian brothers or sisters for fear of offending someone sure do make me feel more secure in my faith and following! Wimp!
Wow, for someone not radical, your 10:58 post was awfully angry.
God is Love.
How big do you think his prayer cloth is? I'm guessing....wallet sized.
How many nut preachers will Perry stir up over this that will lambast congregations with "VOTE REPUBLICAN"....God's party.
They've done it before. So much for the seperation of church and state.
