Austin -A local division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans is just one vote away from gaining approval of a Texas specialty license plate bearing its logo, which prominently features the Confederate flag. The Texas Department of Motor Vehicle license board voted on the group's request in April, but it was a tie vote. One of the nine members was absent, so the board decided to reconsider the request at its next meeting June 9.
The meeting, however, didn't take place because a board member from Houston died June 3.
Now, the Sons of Confederate Veterans must wait until Gov. Rick Perry appoints a new board member, and that might not happen until fall, said DMV spokeswoman Kim Sue Lia Perkes. (More)

I had a generation of Civil War soldiers in my family. It is part of our history. Why do we want to hind it away? Because of the damn blacks...that's why. Equality my butt!
The approval of this would give the appearance that whites have advanced. We simply can not have that.

It is the confederate flag. that is it. Just because there are people that do not like it, does not mean that the history behind it should be forgotten. We still must honor the soldiers and the beliefs prior to honoring a person's disdain for a symbol.
If we rid ourselves of everything someone else doesn't like then there would be only one person left on earth and they would be trying to figure out to commit suicide.

How about a Mexican Flag license plate for those who had ancestors that fought against the Texas War For Independence. They fought honorably at several battles before being defeated at San Jacinto.
I say the plate should be approved but the tagline should read "Dumbass Redneck"

Maybe have a lynched man hanging from a tree also painted on the face of the plate. That is also part of the history behind it.

The War was based on much more than just slavery. A large part of the war dealt with state’s rights, and economic equality for the less industrialized South, and stopping unfair representation from the North......but all we seem to think about is slavery...which was/is wrong.....but that chapter in history should not be forgotten, or misquoted....it is apparent that most people have no clue as to why we actually had a war....If the war ended with the South winning, would we be upset with a group wanting to put the current flag on a plate?........
Maybe they should put "We got our butts whooped and we're proud!" on that license plate.
Or maybe, "150 years and still not over having our slaves taken away."
Or "Tried to secede from the union and all I got for it was this license plate."

Why not a compromise with the first official flag of the CSA, though it does bear a strong resemblance to the Georgia state flag? That doesn't stir up the emotions that the southern cross/battle flag does.
