Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • Corey Haim is dead.
  • Motorcycle chase by DPS last night that ended up in a yard on Nottingham Circle in Bridgeport -- my old stomping ground.
  • The Messenger's Update finally came back online yesterday but it was ad free. I guess they've pinpointed the trojan download.
  • Lots or repair work on the family truckster yesterday. And it wasn't cheap. But at least it's no longer a death trap.
  • Even I'm shocked: A crooked DA in Texas was sentenced to 15 years but made parole after 20 months.
  • But before you all go crazy, the most serious crimes in Texas require a person to serve half their sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
  • Saw a white boy in Walmart the other day with his pants down around his thighs. First, kid, you're a white boy. Second, I'm not even sure the black guys are down with that fashion bit anymore.
  • Well, I learned how much my insurance company will cover my emergency room bill. That'll be a separate post later today. I accept Paypal donations.
  • The University of North Texas made the March Madness tourney last night. For the millions of people that fill out brackets next week, that's a decent amount of free advertising.
  • Decatur High School boys dressed up as women to raise money? Isn't there a better way? (That link may be updated which causes the pics to be pushed to the second page)
  • Re: The story of the Prius that allegedly had a stuck accelerator that had to be helped to a stop by a cop in California pulling in front of it: I think there something very suspicious about it (especially after hearing the 911 call from the driver.)
  • We've got a crazy defendant in a Fort Worth courtroom who is saying some crazy stuff about longtime courtroom players. It's almost impossible to get yourself banned from your own trial, but he did.
  • An off duty trooper in Ellis county was shot while at the home of another DPS trooper. Uh, DPS, you do a great about airing other people's dirty laundry so be sure to keep us up to date on this one.
  • Ex Congressional Rep. Massa, who was all over the news yesterday, is a nutcase.

Corey Haim is dead of a drug overdose? *yawn*

Do we have independent confirmation that the Corey is dead? Not that I doubt the possibility of it happening, but it could be another inkernets "celebrity" death.

I saw a couple of kids at the Taco Casa in Azle a while back with the droopy draws. My first thought was "What the hell is keeping those things up?" and then "Either pull em up or take em completely off, because that looks just stupid." Some kids (grown-ups, too) will latch onto a look and stay with it, regardless of whether it looks good or if anybody else does it. That's just their "thing'.

Seems like sex at the top of Mt Everest would be a dicey proposition. The possibility of frostbite on your naughty bits and pieces is a great deterrent. But you would be a very exclusive member of the five mile-high club!

The DA getting out now doesn't offend. It wasn't a sex crime against kids (like the assistant DA caught by Chris Hansen who killed himself). While it is appropriate that he was convicted and even did time, 15 years was excessive.

Now the guy can go work at Wal-Mart.

...Saw a black boy at the tennis courts the other day hitting serve after serve into the net. First, kid, you're a black boy...

The vast majority of us would never make the above observation. It seems the racism that is frequently condemned in this column (and rightly so) is often kept alive by those who profess to hate it yet see no problem with making judgments based on race. Food for thought.

8:33: I did backfire on Beck because he was desperately trying to get Massa to give him some dirt on the health care bill or Rham Emmanuel. Massa ended up apologizing to Emmanuel and admitting that he did something improper - rather than the narrative he was trying to spin earlier this week (that he was forced out because he was a "no" vote on health care). So, yes, Anonymous 8:33, it did backfire on Beck the snake oil salesman.

ahahahahah, the Messenger is claiming it was hacked:

http://www.wcmessenger.com/blogs/shelfspace/?p=408

Sure. Welcome to the world of internet advertising. You weren't hacked. You were using an ad network that served up ads from a third-party network that doesn't vet their ads.

Embrace Massa. He is a typical liberal weenie that is the latest to be thrown under the bus. That must be one big bus. Massa, say hello to Obammy's grandma while you're there.

I hope the anti-fake boob crowd is happy with today's hot chic photo.

Hey you missed yeserday's story about one of California's most anti-gay republican lawmakers announcing that he.....wait for it.....he's gay!

Republican Sen. Roy Ashburn, who has been on leave from the Senate since he was arrested and charged with DUI last week, said in an interview on KERN radio in Bakersfield, “I’m gay. Those are the words that have been so difficult or me for so long,” the paper said.

Ashburn, a 55-year-old divorced father of four from Bakersfield, was arrested Wednesday after reportedly leaving Faces, a gay nightclub in Sacramento, according to cbs13.com. The station also reported there was a male passenger in the car at the time.

Any mechanics out there? In an interstate driving situation, instead of rolling for miles with a car going 90 mph that won't slow down, couldn't you just sling it into neutral and gradually coast to a stop?

I'm a lawyer, but I can't resist this statement about the paroled ex-DA--He was paroled becaused he was a bad influence on the rest of the inmates! (Rimshot)

Someone must believe some of what Massa is saying. Obamma is sinking deeper. Rasmussen says -21 this morning. Called my liberal sister in Reno last evening and even she has turned on the Democrats.

Barry – I am surprised you haven’t commented on the all the issues by Liz Cheney’s group - Keep America Safe, which recently released an ad questioning the loyalties of Justice Department lawyers who did pro-bono work involved in representing al-Qaeda terror suspects at Gitmo.

As a mother of one of the boys in the Eighter from Decatur pagent, I have to say your opinion is your opinion. Yes it is for charity, PALS. It was a fun and harmless night. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house-from laughing so hard. They had fun and so did everyone else. Maybe if you laughed at yourself a little more, well need I say more.

Just futher proof that people who seek political power in our society are the lowest form of life. Not many honest politicians left, if any...Democrat, Republican or otherwise. These people are all crooked and they are stealing from us. I could care less if they want to suck a #@#* every now and then.

Sure appears that way recently. I don't think King Obamy can summon all his men and horses to save that runaway train!

Toyota made it clear that all you have to do is pump the brakes, put on the emergency brake, and put the car in neutral and it'll stop. The driver in the news must have panicked or been a complete idiot. As to the "turn off the key" comment, I have a 2010 Rav-4 and it doens't have a key. It has a push-button starter....coolest thing ever!

Anonymous said...

I'm with those who believe he should have just turned off the vehicle. I would have.

Anonymous said...

Okay, your vehicle doesn't need a key to start it, but how do you turn it off...and why wouldn't that same method work in this case?

Anonymous said...

Good point, but not sure it would work. To turn it off, you have to have it in park. I guess slamming it in park wouldn't be good from high speeds, so might not work so well. I was just quoting what Toyota has been publicizing about pumping the brake, putting it in neutral, emergency brake.

Anonymous said...

If I owned a Toyota I think just putting it in neutral would work best. The engine might blow up, but that's better that having a wreck. And the brakes & power steering work better if the engine is running.

on a random note, its fitting that the decatur boys were dressing like woman... afterall, they play like girls too.

3:20 AMEN; I second your vote.

North Texas making the Sweet 64 just illustrates that far too many very mediocre teams get in (and some pretty good teams are left out). Big deal - the entire lower bracket is wiped out on the first round - shouldn't have been in in the first place.

Football mom,
While I agree, it was all in good fun, the funds raised were not for PALS, but another organization on campus.

FWST today, in an article about Corey Haim, referenced his comments about how he started with marijauna that he got while working on the Lost Boys, then advanced to other drugs.

I could have sworn the article said it was beer first on the set.

I see another real quick DPS station transfer being processed by sergeants and lieutenants today.
There are DPS data terminals crashing into to each other today with inter-office emails from Ellis County to the Rangers.
The last one to Austin HQ was, "Don't put his partners wife's name in the media".
