Breaking: Explosion & Fire --- Unbreaking: It's Now Out

Edit: How it ended - with the fire raging, the firefighter (top of the ladder in lower right corner in above photo), pushed a hose over the edge and it was out within two minutes. People in that chat room on Fox 4 were throwing down a lot of "he's crazy!" Trust me, although not shown in the pic, those flames were the same size as those below.
Images Above From Fox 4 News (Live video as of 12:22 p.m. Ended around 12:45)
Align CenterEdit: Twitpic from Messenger. Nice job.
Bad photo of smoke as seen from Whataburger parking lot
The Messenger broke the news at 11:30 that there's been an explosion at some gas well near Decatur with smoke being seen "several" miles away. Developing . . . Edit: From the Messenger's twitter feed:

4 TANK BATTERIES EXPLODED UPON ARRIVAL THEY FOUND 1 FULLY INVOLVED AND ANOTHER ON ITS SIDE....2 PATIENTS SO FAR FIRST DEGREE BURNS

Anonymous said...

the tank battery has 5 or 6 big storage tanks with at least 1 tank fully engulfed in flames and the others will probably explode before boots and coots can get here to put out this big gas fire..

I will bet that some one walked uo with a lit cig. that caused this, there are 2 people with bad burns to their face and upper torso.

Seems to be another A & M event gone wrong...

The fire is out and the FoxDFW chopper is leaving the scene so the live video of the tank battery has ended.

Incidentally, Devon owns and operates the tank battery.

yall need to have a little more respect. You wern't there and neither was I, but there are so many variables that can go wrong while doing hot work on location. Not everyone is a crack head in this county.

The welders name that got burnt is Anthony Silletti, long time WC resident.

3:08...condensate and gas vapors are just a by product of dumping water into the tanks. The gas is used to push the water from the separator into the tanks so that the gas can carry on down the sales line...therefore the gas has a direct line to the tank...condensate on the other hand is as flamable (or more) than gasoline. I was told he was working on a line that the crew was working on finishing up the final welds on wells that had just recently been drilled...and the line was loaded. Proper precautions were not taken..natural gas(if not shown its proper respect)can injure or kill. Devon has outstanding safety regulations and policies..so the procedures had to be overlooked by the crew in order for something like this to happen. Thats your natural gas lesson for the day.
