Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • Report of highway 114 shut down in Paradise at CR 3259 this morning due to a wreck -- and that's from WBAP.
  • Crazy news that happens all the time: (1) a person driving the wrong way on the North Dallas tollway - happened last night, (2) a single car crash where the driver later turns out to be a gunshot/murder victim -- happened again in Fort Worth two days ago.
  • If I set the timer on my microwave, I have this weird ability to sense when it gets under five seconds on the countdown.
  • I'm just four chapters into it, but "Outliers" is one fascinating book.
  • I'm pretty sure that there's a bill on Gov. Perry's desk which will allow the cops to take your blood without a warrant after a DWI arrest IF you have two prior convictions for DWI. And in a couple of years, they'll amend it to make it applicable to first time DWI arrests. That's how MADD works the legislature.
  • GM declares for bankruptcy and the stock market goes up 221 points ---- all on the same day. Is there any question that we are living in Bizzarro world?
  • And some "financial advisor" on WBAP said GM stock is pretty much worthless right now, and will always be.
  • My closest friends tell me they get upset when I allow comments critical of me on here. "I just get so mad at those people," someone told me the other day. I've got lots of faults, but having a thin skin isn't one of them.
  • I would have liked to have seen No Doubt last Saturday night in Dallas. Not enough to go through the arse whip of actually going, though.
  • Do you think a new movie starring Tommy Lee Jones, John Goodman, and Mary Steenburgen would go straight to DVD? Yep, Into the Electric Mist. I watched most of it last night and it was really good.
  • Texas/OU has been set for an 11:00 a.m. kickoff this October. I'm already excited.
  • I don't recall a plane just vanishing like the Air France jet, but I don't know how you find it once it plummets into the ocean. Edit: ABC News just reported that it might have been found this morning.
  • There was one American couple on board the plane (Michael and Ann Harris) who had moved to Rio last year from The Woodlands and were on the plane headed for a "seminar" in France. That sounds like a pretty good life that was gone in the blink of an eye.
  • And he was a geologist for Devon.
  • President Obama and his wife have a date night in New York on Saturday and the right wing goes crazy at the cost. Uh, folks, he's the President.
  • Crazy storm this morning in Wise County, and this is what it looked like shortly before 7:00 a.m.

ive only heard 2 reports about obamas date. both on liberal leaning shows about how the right went crazy. i listen to talk radio pretty much all day and i have heard a word until Chris Mathews last night.

i think the left is paradoid.

Date night cost the taxpayers $250,000 so any fiscal conservative would not like it! Flying off to New York on a jet airplane is living like a very, very rich royal! How many hard working Americans have a Friday night datenight just going out to eat in this economy?

Obama can get away with anything with a press that adores him!

Just add the $250,000 to the debt and borrow more money to pay for it.

If the president needs to take his wife out every Friday night, he should do it on his dime, not ours!

Baby got back! and not that freakishly distorted Kim Kardashian kind of rump

You can sense the time on the microwave because it's transmitting microwave signals to your brain! All starting to make sense now, huh? Intermittent Inkernets, broke-down car, telepathically linking with the microwave...
"All your base are belong to us"

Didn't somebody once say that what's good for General Motors is good for America? Am I remembering that correctly? True in his time, now...not so much

I don't really have a problem with the DWI blood draw. If cops think you look and act drunk, then you probably are. The test will prove or disprove that.
Now bring on all the anti-cop/drinking/drugging comments

Aside from the cost of the president's date night, how can you enjoy it if you live in a fishbowl atmosphere in public (maybe you enjoy being in the limelight?).
And what's wrong with the food they serve in the White House? Isn't that supposed to be some world-class fare?
I don't listen to/watch news or news channels, so I have no idea how much ruckus this has caused

Was this date a fiscally responsible thing to do by a president that is supposed to be fixing our economy? Right wing... I think not, it's called being responsible.

Anonymous said...

The ridiculous thing about the date night is that he has said over and over again how America will have to give up some accessories and deal with some stuff they don't want to deal with, but he can spend that much tax money on a date? It's not our responsibility to pay for his fancy dates to New York. I couldn't care less if he paid for it, but he didn't, we did.

That old "he's the President" is that same rationale that allowed Bush to act in such a high and mighty manner that the Dems abhorred. The difference is that George Bush took strong actions as President to save your asses, all of you. Obama pretty much seems to just be worshiping himself with all that power.

This is not going to turn out well.

uh, he might be the president but that's our money he's spending.

I'm a new reader and curious about the subjects in the picture above. I think I might know them, especially the one in the white dress.

Where did you find such a fascinating picture?

I don't have a problem with the Obama date, nor any of his other extravagances. He's just reminding us commoners of how royalty is supposed to live. I understand that the White House protocol office is implementing a new policy where visitors will be required to kneel when they meet him.

Does anyone remember Crawford, TX?
Howe often and how much did it cost for each of those weekends.

Yes, a trip to NY is costly as was each trip to Crawford, but guys think of the pressure and the need for a break.

Hey! I have that same strange ability!!!

It happens every time I see the numbers "8, 7, 6," appear in succession on that little window-thingy...

Chuckle for the day: Wordkyle offended by someone feeling/acting/appearing superior.

I am sure Wordkyle is dismayed that public opinion (current)doesn't match his superior intellect is assesing Obama.

He won't be depressed long. We Americans "use up" our politicians with alarming swiftness and regularity.

And the world keeps turning.

Puh-leeze...where was all the right wing indignation when Dubya flew back and forth to the "Western White House" in Crawford every other weekend? Air Force One from Maryland to Waco, Marine One from Waco to Crawford, dozens of big black Suburbans choking the streets...all so Dubya could clear a little brush. Pot, meet Kettle.

A big group of friends from high school and I went to the No Doubt concert...we were all complaining about how old we felt with all the little 12 year old screaming girls around us until they hit the stage and I swear we lost half our beer from jumping up and down like we were 14 listening to Spiderwebs

How do you know Obama didn't pay for the date out of his presidential salary?

A) don't care anything about wrecks, in Wise Co. or otherwise.
B) Hate MADD
C) Love this blog and storms
D) Think the date nights are fine, but they need to pay for them out of their salaries. I agree with 9:32, how do you know we paid?

Don't care if Obama is Mr. President, he can very well relieve his stress like a lot of the rest us. A six pack of Miller helps a lot, the only thing is now, I can't even afford that. Take my date to the back porch with a glass of lemonade. Obama wouldn't make a wart on a President's behind.

916 - Glad you started your day with a chuckle. A few questions:
- What have I ever done that makes you imply that I feel/act/appear superior to anyone else?
- What have I ever done that makes you think that I think I have a "superior intellect?"
- What makes you think that Obama feeling/acting/appearing superior "offends" me?

For the record: I've never implied, much less expressed the thought, that I'm "superior" to anyone else. I've never implied that I have a superior intellect. And it's Obama's policies that offend me, not his going out on a date. (At least it was with his wife.)

In today's pic the Messcan blond is mad cause she saw that same outfit and shoes at the garage sale but had to chase her kids down to get them back in the car.

I have ESPN, so I know things.

To wordkyle...It is not that you have stated a belief that you are intellectually superior that pisses off the petty rabble, it is you BEING intellectually superior, to them, that pushes them over the edge into an insane jealous rage. Yep! You being intelligent is more than the jealous dolts can tolerate.

I love stirring the pot..

Barry,

The No Doubt concert was amazing!!! One of the best I have ever been to. YOu would have liked it based on the obvious girl/guy ratio. 80/20 girls with some pretty hot Hey Now's drunkingly dancing. But the best Hey Now being Ms. Gwen herself. She played for an hour and a half stright and never stopped dancing and never ran out of breath. Not bad for having a baby last fall. Also, the Superpages.com (stupid name for a venue) was selling tickets for the rest of the summer lawn seats for 10 dollars no fees. We picked up some for The Fray. Pretty good deal.

MzChief is correct though, that those of us who have intellegence or a drive to better ourselves have been persecuted by those who do not. It's the dumbing down of society from being made fun of for making good grades in school to the wrath and name calling from those who cannot make a rational argument against mine.

To wordkyle...I have run out of butterflies from which to pluck the wings and kittens to kick so I have been relegated, as a last resort, to my simplest source of joy; tweaking the twits on Barry's Blog by beating them with the truth. Sorry for you being collateral damage.

9:32 - You seriously think the (lack of) President paid a $250,000 date bill with his $400,000 salary?

wordkyle said...

mzchief - I understand, and I'll probably survive. You know what I think scares them the most? The thought that I'm just a regular guy who brings up topics they don't want to think about. (Example: less than six months into Obama's reign, the federal government owns GM and the UAW owns Chrysler. Apparently membership has its privileges.)

Anonymous said...

the difference is that W didn't complain about executives flying on private jets and didn't use all the environmental claptrap as a club to beat up American business. Obama is employing a double standard...one for him and one for the rest of the world.

What is the source of this $250,000.00 estimate? The dinner and theater tickets were paid for by Obama. Air transportation was estimated to have cost $24,000.00. (Source: New York Post, May 31, 2009) I realize that no official figures are being released, but could it truly cost $250,000.00 for three aircraft to make the flight? Operating from a position of accepting the lesser figure, is $24,000.00 acceptable to me? No. Is it an unprecedented abuse of power? No.

Bush used air transportation, funded by taxpayer dollars, for 134 trips to Camp David, 70 trips to Crawford and 10 trips to his folks place in Maine. (Source: Washington Post, March 4, 2008) I would assume there were additional trips since then, but I don't have time to research a more recent number.

The moral is that it is good to be president whether you are a Republican or Democrat, and taxpayers will always have to pay for things they don't support.

Random thought: My neighbor often charges back and forth across his back yard yelling loudly into his cell phone. For some reason that always makes me think of the comments on this blog.

How much did it cost US taxpayers to move White House operations to Crawford TX? I'd love to get that number and analyze it.

Anonymous said...

MADD and the laws they support would not be around if people would be little smarter about driving after they have been drinking. Just another case of the majority suffering because of the stupid few.

Anonymous said...

Some of you folks are making too much of the Crawford Ranch thing. All presidents of the mid-to-late 20th century had their getaway destinations, except maybe Clinton. He pretty much shacked up wherever he could find it. Years from now, we'll be telling jokes about him a la "Washington slept here".
But the deal is - did he have to go to NY for just a night? I know that's where all the good theater is, but what about that place in DC - Ford's Theater? Okay, maybe that wouldn't be a wise choice, considering.
But dude, you're married to her; is a "date" really necessary? It's a cinch you're gonna get some (forget that I brought up Clinton earlier). And if she balks, just remind her you're the undisputed leader of the free world. Chicks dig power

Anyway, the difference between this and Crawford - and all the other presidential places - is that those are official/permanent residences. Even if he paid for the meal and theater tickets himself, there's the cost of all the extra support and security involved, for just one night! Seems very extravagant in tough economic times

Anonymous said...

Why do you speak ill of the way MADD works is the legislature but you say nothing of the way liquor lobbies work there.

Anonymous said...

madd is like the rainbow push coalition.

if they ever rid us of drunk driving they will be unemployed and the state will be broke.

if jesse ever ends racism hell have to get a real job.

Are you certain about the "not having a thin skin" part? Or do you routinely walk by friends and acquaintances without even a word of acknowledgement? Maybe it's not thin skin as much as it is premenstrual moodiness? You know, everything can't go your way all the time.

Never assume that it is just "right wing" people who are the only ones intelligent enough to question and point out the hypocrisy of this poor president. There are other intelligent people out here as well and we would like to think you are one of those.....

SB 328. That's the DWI bill.

And, frankly, the defense bar did far more to help get that bill passed than MADD. Over the last 10 years, the defense bar has educated drunks across Texas to refuse to comply with the implied consent law -- just refuse to provide a breath sample. That meant lots of cases became weak, lots of trials were held, lots of people became frustrated.

So, thanks Barry.

I HAVE NOT HEARD OF ANY BILL ON THE GOV'S DESK FROM MADD TO TAKE BLOOD WITH OUT WARRANT BUT AS I READ THE U.S. CONSTITUTION IT STATES THAT WE HAVE THE RIGHT NOT TO DO ANYTHIN THAT INCRIMINATE OUSELVES. BUT AS YOU SAID MADD IS A SLICK GROUP THAT ONLY WANTS THINGS TO GET THEM GLORY INSTEAD OF FINDING A WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM LIKE PAYING FOR TAXIS TO DRIVE THOSE WHO HAVE HAD A LITTLE TO MUCH HOME BUT THATS TO EASY AND MADD WANTS TO SPEND TAX DOLLARS TO FURTHER THIER GLORY

Obammy's date has now cost more than the Iraq war has cost from the start. How can Americans put up with this kind of reckless spending for a date? We could have invaded another country instead. Or maybe two! Well, soon we can have another "I hate Obammy" Tee Party. At the golf course of course. I will be glad to hit your balls (or your balls carried by wife/girlfriend) if she has them in her purse. If there is a picture of Obammy on it, will hit very hard. Poor MrChief. Ouch.
