Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • In the Messenger today: A letter to the editor proclaims Obama as the antiChrist. Really. You have to see it. (I'll link to it once it is online) Edit: Here it is.
  • And yet another letter refers to Obama as "B. Hussein Obama." Puhleeeze.
  • The Bridgeport Bulls are (finally) #10 in the AP Poll. If someone has a good link to that poll that can be accessed every week in the same place, let me know. I think I know The Google pretty well, but I can't seem to find it.
  • There's no way I'm watching the presidential debate tonight. Two of them, which brought a big bag of nothing, were enough.
  • I just thought about chicken pot pie.
  • I know I don't have enough information to try to place blame for the federal bailout.
  • Nicolette Sheridan is still prancing around in Malibu in a bikini. Mercy.
  • I noticed the Methodist church on 287 that I referred to yesterday (the one that had the "hell house" last year) now has a banner up that reads "Fall Festival" (or something like that.) I bet there was a little turmoil in that church. Then again, pick any church.
  • The only reason I want Oklahoma State to fail is because I want a tear to roll down the cheek of T. Boone Pickens (he gave $165 million to the athletic program in 2006).
  • But the OSU coach's rant of "I'm A Man, I'm 40!" from last season is by for my favorite post-game press conference ever. It never gets old.
  • I was smart enough to use sunscreen on my face during the Texas/OU game this weekend. But I was dumb enough to leave uncovered a one inch strip on my forehead next to my hairline.
  • Most phone calls are unnecessary. And most unnecessary phone calls seem to be longer than the necessary ones.
  • I bought a razor that has a ridiculous four blades. I don't think its any better than the double bladed razor.
  • Many years ago, I had what looked like a golf ball hit my windshield after presumably being dropped from an overpass in Fort Worth. That will get your attention.
  • They sure have a lot of wildfires in California. Cool photo.
  • What exactly does "hightail" in the phrase "I'm gonna hightail it out of here" mean?
  • The best part of my job is that I never have in "company meetings" where everyone gathers around a conference table. That would drive me insane.
  • Man, in addition to that silly fried stuff at the State Fair, there is some pretty good stuff you typically never see. Saw some folks walking away from a German food stand with some a couple of items that looked pretty good. (Later learned one was a Reuben sandwich.)
  • I would never walk around holding a turkey leg.

But, Barry would you pound the pavement holding a turkey leg?

Just the thought of that is hysterical!

"high tail it out of here" Many animals flee with their tail in the air when they are startled. Think about the last time you saw a white tailed deer run away from you.

Interesting about the Methodist church on 287. Could that change have come about from some picketing protests from the Baptists? :-)

You are right about turmoil in churches Barry. At any given time, a bit of political "hell" is likely going on.

A split. A new church.

Re Nicolette--was your statement of "Mercy" said to the tune of Roy Orbison's song, "Pretty Woman"?

Re the Wildfires in California--I feel sorry for the people who lost their homes; however, it's been HOW many DECADES (not just years) in a row that these fires have PROVED that building in this area is a "nottagood" idea? DUH!

Obama may not be a Muslim......and he may not be the AntiChrist........but he'll sure tax a lot of small businesses in this country.......and a lot of people WILL get laid off from their jobs if that man is elected president (NEWSFLASH for Obama......most small businesses make more than $250,000 a year........never mind the fact that your progressive tax policy will punish achievement, which is unAmerican!)

I don't know about anyone else, but I am tired of seeing Lowery crap everytime I log onto the Messenger! I read all the candidate profiles--is it just me or is the Independent the only one that has a plan?

Can't try more cases that Judge Fostel's calendar will hold. He only works so many hours in a day. Hartley doesn't even attempt to answer the "How will you fix it" question. Seems like Phillips' plan about a drug court makes sense. Just sayin.

While he has to be better than current occupant, is anyone troubled by relationship between candidates for sheriff and DA?

If it's any consolation to you Barry, according to the Daily Oklahoman newspaper, OSU has delayed construction on its indoor practice facility because of the decline in value of the "contribution" made by Pickens. It seems as though Pickens required that the contribution remain invested in his hedge fund which has suffered huge losses.

As well, if you would do your homework on your own, instead of relying on pundits, you would be aware of Captains and Kings, Bilderbargers, Rothchilds, Tri-Lateral Commission, One World Order. This world bank thing has been planned for years and years. It was only a matter of time regardless of who was in the White House. President Bush states it's only temporary but since he's a part of "the group" let's see. Tri-Lateral means three Countries, which are Europe, Japan and the United States. See what these three powers are working on together right now. Do you really believe Bush and Paulson came up with this all on their own? Good lord, give me a break! Here's the deal, McCain is known not to go along with the Party Line, that's why I am willing to vote for him and give him the chance to make some changes. Obama on the other hand has always stuck to the Party Line so why would anything change or why would you want to take a chance on anything even remotely changing?

Ryan, people like me get pissed about the republicans use of Barack Obama's full name because they are not using it to identify him, they are using it to associate the image of Saddam Hussein with Barack Obama. It's a cheap political scare tactic designed to use fear to scare people into voting republican. Study the tactics of Karl Rove in the 2000 and 2004 elections to learn all about using fear to sway the electorate.

...and he wasn't born in Kenya, he was born in Hawaii. If he had been born in Kenya he wouldn't be eligible to run for president and there is no vast left-wing conspiracy to cover up his birth history.

I am an independent who, until recently, was leaning towards Obama.

In an open forum yesterday, Obama was answering questions. A plumber asked him the following question - "Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn't it?" the plumber asked, complaining that he was being taxed "more and more for fulfilling the American dream."

Obama's reply was - "It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success too," Obama responded. "My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody ... I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

WOW! Is anybody paying attention to this?!? This is very disturbing.

On the major issues of national security and taxes, I am leaning towards McCain, unless someone can convince me otherwise.

9:15 and 9:57,

I read the profiles too. Write in Candidate appears to be too soft on crime; Current County Attorney has a record, a record of Pleading out more cases than actually going to trial with them. Makes his conviction rate look good, but the plea bargains a pathetic. His advertisements are misleading. I tried to go to the website he puts in his ad and I couldn't make heads or tales of it. From reading that web site, it doesn't even show conviction rates on County attorney's or D.A's. Besides that, Gerald Hartley was never a D.A or County Attorney, so where does he get his figures? Appears Mr. Lowery is generally misleading the voters of Wise County, first with his conviction record and secondly with his direction to a record on his opponent that doesn't even exist. Does he think Wise County voters are stupid and won't check things out?

Our constitution was founded on the belief of separation of church and state, so that each of us can choose our own religion and not have the government using taxes paid by us all to promote or inhibit any religion.

Regligions benefit from this too, since they don't pay taxes to the government. It's only fair that the gov't doesn't use that tax money that religions DON'T pay to promote or inhibit any or all religions.

You really don't want a theocracy.

Separation of church and state = religous freedom for all of us.

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. (36 United States Code,Section 86)

"In God We Trust" has been on our coins since 1863. (even before it was our national motto) (31 United States Code, Section 5112 [D] [1]

Our Pledge of Allegiance cites "one nation under God."

Both state legislatures and United States Congress employ paid chaplains to pray at the opening of all sessions.

All military branches of the United States government have paid chaplains.

The inscription on the Liberty Bell cites Leviticus 25:10

A portrait of Moses with the Ten Commandments hangs above the Speaker's chair in the United States Congress.

(But this is illegal in our public schools and municipal government buildings) It is shameful that the very institution which governs us and makes the laws are able to display the Ten Commandments but the citizens cannot.

Does this form of government sound familiar?

The Library of Congress (another government institution) has statues of the apostle Paul and Moses, and it has large inscriptions of Micah 6:8 and Psalm 19:1prominently displayed. (Try pulling that off at the next high school football game)

The Lincoln Memorial has chiseled on it, "Judgments of the Lord are righteous." (Government Property)

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is dedicated to a soldier "Known but to God."

There is a prayer room in Congress. (Go tell your local school board you want the same thing that "our" Government has....a prayer room. Better yet ask the ACLU if they will either allow prayer rooms in our schools or fight to have the one our Government has to be removed ...just for grins of course.

This has got to be the best one yet...-The very branch of our US Government which ruled against prayers at a high school football game opens the Supreme Court Session with the words, "God save the United States and this honorable court." They do this publicly, not privately.

The United States Constitution refers to Jesus, stating the Constitution was signed in 1787 "in the year of our Lord." (Could the US Government explain which Lord they are referring to on this sacred document if not Jesus?)

The United States Government has mandated "National Day of Prayer." (36 United States Code, Section 169 [H]. (Think about that....The very government who has ruled against public prayer at schools because of the misguided "Separation of Church and State" doctrine has mandated a "National Day of Prayer." by US Government Law!! )

Christmas is a United States Government Holiday.

To 8:43AM--Lowery is not claiming that he will try more cases than Fostel's court will schedule, but rather he will try MORE cases during the times he is scheduled. Of course, he realizes he is limited by the court's schedule and availability. It has been the appalling lack of trials that COULD have been tried, that he is addressing.

To 9:15 AM--Checks and Balances is a valid part of the stucture of our government when it comes to the three branches of government. It is NOT a valid example of "checks and balances" to have the prosecutor's office and the law enforcement offices in this county not on good terms with each other. In fact, the taxpayers and citizens DESERVE elected officials who cooperate with each other and are on good terms with each other. When a prosecutor's office gets "at odds" with law enforcement, EVERYBODY suffers, including the public at large. "Checks and balances" as you used it doesn't even apply in this situation.

I continue to be astounded by the incredibly ignorant reasons why some people think they are "against" Greg Lowery being elected. On this blog, and in conversations with other citizens, EVERY reason I have heard falls into one of categories: (1) based on completely false facts; (2) based on incorrect hearsay; (3) based on incorrect conclusions reached due to not understanding the facts; or (4) based on total ignorance of how local governmental systems work.

yes, there are people who attempt through courts to get phrases pertaining to God removed from coins, the pledge, etc.

I'm not one of those people. Despite being an atheist, I accept the fact that Christianity is the dominate religious force in the country and it has unfortunately become a bigger part of our political process and government that I feel it should be. So be it. It's not the end of the world. I do believe in a strict interpretation of the separation of church and state, something I personally feel is very important. Alas, that separation is crumbling and I'll just have to deal with.

What I don't believe in is the violation of the right to an individuals freedom of religion. I'll gladly defend anyone's right to pray, to attend the church of your own choosing, to declare your faith for all to hear.

To Idiot Obama Haters...
You people and your lame claims that Obama is a secret Muslim and is not a U.S. citizen do nothing but make yourselves look like the most mindless of dolts and are an embarrass the rest of civilized humanity.

Here is a copy of Obama's birth certificate, issued by the state of HAWAII. Just for the record, the copy of the birth certificate is indeed invalid only because the certificate no. has been blacked out.

After Obama went to live with his mother and Muslim step-father in Indonesia, Obama was raised in a Muslim household from the ages of 6-10 years old. At age 10, Obama returned to Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents and practiced no religion until he joined Trinity United Church of Christ. In 1985 Obama converted to Christianity and for 23 years embraced the racist, anti-American, Black separatism that was spewed by Rev. Wright in the name of preaching Black Liberation Theology.

You people who attempt to deride Obama for having been exposed to Islam for 4 years as a child miss the point that Obama, as an adult, embraced a racist, anti-American, Black separatist organization that requires it members to be Afro centrists and pledge to promote and assure the prosperity of Blacks before all other races.

Here is a copy of the "12 precepts and covenantal statements" of Trinity United Church of Christ.

“We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian...Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain 'true to our native land,' the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

“Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:

1. Commitment to God
2. Commitment to the Black Community
3. Commitment to the Black Family

4. Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
5. Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
6. Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
7. Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
8. Disavowal of the Pursuit of "Middleclassness"
9. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
10. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions
11. Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
12. Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.

In order to attend that school you had to be a citizen of Indonesia or denounce the Country which you were from and become a citizen of Indonesia. Due to his age at the time he was too young to make that decision and the question is; did his father denounce Obamas citizen-ship in order for him to get in the school?

307 - I've enumerated many times some of the policy and issue reasons that I'm "against" Obama. There are also character and ethical issues. For example, why does Obama keep having to distance himself from people (Ayers, Rezko, Wright) and organizations (ACORN) with whom he has associated for many, many years? And why is this "distancing" only happening now, during the Presidential campaign?

Policies, issues, character and ethics -- add in the lack of any track record of accomplishment, and you have a pretty good package of reasons for being "against" Obama.

Ayers, Ayers, Ayers.

Why don't we ever talk about G. Gordon Liddy. He has donated $5,000 to McCain's campaigns since 1998, including $1,000 in Feb. 2008.

McCain has been palling around with Terrorist Liddy.

Liddy:
*served 4 yrs for his role in the Watergate break in.
*admitted he was prepared to kill someone during the break in if necessary.
*Plotted to kill journalist Jack Anderson.
*plotted to kill Howard Hunt
*plotted to firebomb the Brookings Institute.
*Instructed his radio audience (in the 1990s) how to shoot American ATF agents. (get a headshot, they wear bullet proof vests)
**McCain was on Liddy's radio show last May:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mncswlqo2D0

--After Ayers' trouble in the 1970s he went on to obtain his PHD and became a university professor and worked to improve Chicago Schools.
--Liddy continued his extremist activities well into the 1990s.

>>Obama denounced Ayers activities.
>>McCain says his old friend Liddy adheres to "the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great."

Why is it that McCains involvement with G Gordon Liddy is not being questioned? For those that don't know Liddy was involved in the Watergate scandal. In the 1990s Liddy instructed his radio audience on multiple occasions on how to shoot Burreau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents. In May 2008 McCain was on Liddy's show and praised Liddy on his adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.

Maybe we should start looking deeper into McCains past and start asking questions about his real intentions for our great nation.

The way that Ayers went on to improve Chicago schools was to work with Obama through the Annenberg Challenge which promotes extremist anti-American Afrocentric educational programs which were a carbon copy of the world view of Rev. Wright. I wonder if this was the reason Ayers was given citizen of the year award by Mayor Daley?

726 & 749 (if you're different people, what an amazing coincidence!): I have no problem with questions about McCain's "involvement" with Liddy. I wouldn't mind hearing McCain's response.

Obama's response to Ayers questions is that he didn't know the man, that he was simply "someone who lived in my neighborhood." This is clearly untrue, as has been thoroughly documented. Obama interacted with Ayers extensively over several years.

Why, then, does Obama distance himself from Ayers? A harmless relationship should mean a straightforward true response, which has not been forthcoming from Obama. The answers have been untrue or deceptive, and the questioners belittled for asking. A simple answer such as "Ayers committed a crime many years ago, has redeemed himself, and I had dealings iwth him," would work. (Although Obama would then have to explain why he was so involved with an unrepentant terrorist.)

Obama seems to have hung out with a great many individuals who he befriended when it was politically expedient, and who he now discards for the same reason. That's one of the indications of his character that I mentioned in my previous post.

If you do not take it back I will say a prayer that your grand children end up looking like Rush Limbaugh and/or Ann Colter...*LOL*

I take it back, I would not wish that even on someone who called me Rush Limbaugh. *;)

well ryan, could be because even tho it is his name, it is meant to be insulting and insinuate that he is Muslim. Of course, you already know this. I mean, you know Obama is a Muslim.

I am not a religious fanatic as you say, but who cares about the economy when you don't have a government....i mean this country was founded under God and it has worked so far. so i am just saying if you take God out of the country, we don't have a country, not only that but our money even has "in God we trust"

10:31 AM

---------
Only a matter of opinion of our country "Founded Under God" and it don't make a shit whether "In God We Trust" is on money or not. Beings it is on money, shows what the most powerful religion is. The religion of wealth. Just look at Tilton or Copeland and see the main point of worship lies. Get between a "Christian" and their money, and see where that gets ya.

Man! After watching last night's debate, I was thinking "I am changing careers, I want to be a plumber"!! $250K a year! And he makes that in Ohio? I am thinking I could triple that in TX.

Watched ABC morning show. Joe the plumber laughed when was asked if he made $250k. No, not close.

um. THAT is the point Joe.

John McCain wants to tax YOU and ME more now. If you start earning $250k in the plumbing business you are probably hiring illegal workers at slave labor rates, but what the hell, you can hire a lobbying firm and buy John & Cindy a nice gift for giving you a tax break.
