Baylor Hires New Exorcist

A few people have asked me what I think about the hiring of new Baylor head coach Art Briles. My answer: I dunno.

He took a 0-10 Houston team to four bowl games over the last five years, but I don't think Houston had to routinely play Tech, OU, the Ag, and the Evil Empire. One of two things will happen: (1) he'll be a bust like the last three coaches, or (2) he brings Baylor up to six wins and bowl eligible thereby making him the hottest commodity in the country as a miracle worker. He doesn't have to make Baylor great. He just has to make them average.

After years of Horrible, I'll take Average.

Edit: Tap the brakes there, hoss.

I vote we have Baylor put in conference USA with Houston etc. and take Arkansas from the SEC and put them into the Big 12. Heck, Arkansas might go for that, as tough as the SEC has become the last few years.

Hey he did a great job with ex-Decatur football player kevin Klob.
He moved out of town his freshmen yr. He holds many of Houston's QB records now, And that is saying something. He got drafted in the second round of the NFL draft this year. Mcnabb's soon to be replacement

I was in S'ville for a while before he left and he was a GOD in that town. He showed at the high school level that he was a great recruiter...I think he could have waited for a better job, but maybe he will take Baylor to respectability and then bolt for a bigger program. If he doesn't though his career is dead.

I don't know what y'all are talking about. I just see a dead bear. Poor dead bear.

Briles has been successful throughtout his career. Whether it be at the high school(Stephenville), or college(Houston)level. I love the way he runs his shotgun no huddle spread offense. It's proven to be very with the right personnel. Him having great relationhips with the Stephenville H.S. coaching staff is a huge bonus in terms of recruiting. Just look at how many players from Southlake are already committed to UNT because of Tom Dodge, and I believe that this will continue and result in great talent coming to UNT, and hopefully like wise with Briles at Baylor.

Todd Dodge not Tom Dodge. But, I echo your comments. Briles will be good for the Baptists. They will now be at least average and not a continuous embarassment for alums like BSG.

Briles will bring better athletes to Waco but in the end it is still Waco, TX. Not too many hot recruits want to live there when they could go to Austin, Oklahoma, you catch my drift. It will still be hard to recruit to that school and town especially when there is no tradition of winning. I understand it has to start somewhere.

Todd Dodge is going to get laughed right out of the college ranks. The only high school program he was successful at was South Lake Carroll. He failed at Keller and I believe the other place was Haltom City. I don't think it is very hard to coach a winning team at South Lake when you have NFL Stars kids playing and people moving their kids there to play all the time.

"We're going to win the Big 12".

I'd like to note that he didn't mention a specific sport. The women's b-ball team can bail him out.

Double Fake, not really, BU Class of '79
