Nothing would make me stop down more as a kid than seeing Evil Knievel on Wild World of Sports. It was absolute gold.
And he once jumped a bunch of buses at North Richland Hills at some drag strip called Green Valley Raceway and I remember waiting for over an hour and half as ABC, carrying it live, hyped the thing. I also remember Evil saying, "I broke my back when I landed." It's not his most spectacular jump but, like most everything else, youtube has it. Howard Cosell and Don Meredith had the call.

I remember that too. I guess it dates us.
I liked the guy's grit, for doing something individual - just him, the bike and the obstacle course.
Happy biking wherever you landed, Evil.........
A toast to a true American legend. Salute.........
Hey boss: it's "Evel". Not "Evil".
Yeah 9:25, I remember how Howard Cosell would really pronounce that Evel name with a lot of accent on the "vel" part. Good job. I knew it was "Evel" and did not pick up on it till you mentioned it.
I saw and article today talking about motorcycle accidents and they said the doctors at the transplant place refer to them as donorcycles .......Kind of makes you think....
I heard that the name came from a sheriff who had placed Kneivel and a man named Knauful ( not sure of spelling)in jail one night. He said: "What a night - we got Evel Kneivel and Awful Knauful" Anyone know if it's true? Whatever the story, he lived life on his own terms.
I had me a little Evil toy cycle and figure that you pulled the wind-up through and he rode a crazy wheeley.Greatness
3 great American legends in one clip, Knievel, Cosell, and Meredith.
Yeah, Monday Night Football has never been the same without Dandy Don Meredith and Howard Cosell.
Barry ... Thank you for the pure gold moment. Evel had it going on long before anyone else.
I owe my first broken bone To Evel. Bad landing on a jump with my Huffy. A fractured coxyx is nothing to laugh about.
I still remember watching that jump at Green Valley on Wide World of Sports. He was greatness, pure and simple. (Altho I still have some doubts about that parachute story at Snake River.)
