Stoners Mourn

"A mother and daughter have been sentenced to jail for transporting drugs and using the proceeds to buy a ranch near Springtown. The No Name Ranch sits on the Parker and Wise County line. Authorities say 60 year old Daryla Julian and her daughter Donelle Kvenild bought the property in 1998 and invested up to $1 million on improvements and equipment. They money they say came from selling over 11,000 lbs of Marijuana since 1997. Julian was sentenced Friday to nine years in federal prison for distribution and money laundering. Her 39 year old daughter was sentenced to six years on the same charges." (Source) Observation: We are locking them up? It sounds like they were a boon to the local economy because of all the ranch improvements.

This looks like this could be used as the basic premise of a new Cheech and Chong Movie:
Up In Smoke II!

I'm with you Barry. My goodness, it's just marijuana. It's good to know they used their money to invest in property and such. They need to go after the people who make and distribute METH, that's the problem in most counties. I think marijuana should be legalized! I'd much rather have a car accident with the guy whose been smoking weed than the guy who has been drinking beer!

FYI: I am not an illegal drug user!

I agree with you about preferring an accident with a toker rather a drinker.....chances are the toker would be going all of about 11 mph.

"It's just marijuana"!?!? For those of you who think marijuana is okay, obviously you have never had a child who started smoking marijuana...then within a short time started doing cocaine. I don't know if what "they" say is true, that marijuana is a gateway drug or not and I don't claim to have all the answers to the drug epidemic in this country, but to dismiss it as "just marijuana" is ludicrous! And if we legalized drugs, we cannot even fathom the deaths of young people if we did that. Granted, people are going to do it if they want to do it, but do we not have a responsibilty as a society to our young people?

As far as these women, for now marijuana is still illegal, they broke the law, even if they invested in property and such, so does that make it okay? If all the dealers making a crap load of money from the selling of drugs invested in property and boosted the local economy, regardless of how many young, impressionable young people die, then it's okay?

There are no easy answers and this is something that I'm sure people will be debating for a long, long time.

It's AGAINST THE LAW. Period.

I'm in total agreement with Anon 8:32...it's illegal. Regardless of how drug dealers may boost the economy...they should not be tolerated, nor should their selfish, harmful money-making practices be.

What happends to the No Name Ranch?!? Does the government keep it since drug funds were used to buy it?
